I actually really like Nick Mason. Well at least his drum sound is beautiful in my opinion.
Yeah I agree with this 110%, in my opinion he got the best sounds out of his drums ... his snare (Especially on the WYWH album) was beautiful. However, with Pink Floyd it would have been difficult to express himself as a great drummer because it just would not have suited the band. Although his drumming on Live In Pompeii rocks :thumb:
I think he's great too, he rarely let his talent show, but he is pretty good. No one seems to like him though... I'm trying to find Fictitious Sports, his solo album, it's supposedly really quirky and good.
It's not a solo album at all really. It's a Carla Bley album. Nick was producer of the album and played some drums on it and they named it after him to make it sell better (this failed however). That being said, I've come across it once but didn't buy it. The shopkeeper hadn't figured out the price yet, and I had to go. When I came back a few days later the album was gone together with the vinyl edition of TDB that he had laying around there... :(

Riva 05-03-2006 05:12 PM

You let a vinyl version of Pink Floyd get away from you?

Just kidding.

I'd have a look at buying that album, since I've enjoyed the solo stuff from all the other Pink Floyd members (Gilmour, Wright, Barrett and Waters).

Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands. Im thinking about getting "Wish you Were Here" soon, is it as good as people talk about it being?

BigTrav415 05-03-2006 06:12 PM

YES

No exaggeration there whatsoever. If you want to drive a little ways to Rocky Mount I can lend it to you ;)

It's seriously my favorite album of all time.

Riva 05-03-2006 06:16 PM

It is seriously the best album by Pink Floyd. No questions asked. Well, at least tied with Obscured by Clouds.

gmoneyguy 05-03-2006 06:19 PM

WYWH is a great album. Have a Cigar is one of my favorite PF songs.

Riva 05-03-2006 06:39 PM

Love that funky intro.

gmoneyguy 05-03-2006 06:49 PM
Love that funky intro.
That and the lyrics are great.

pigonthewing82 05-03-2006 06:49 PM

I think I like Shine On You Crazy Dimond part 2 more than part one. The instrumental work always blows me away (not that part one doesn't) and I don't know I think I like the lyrics better than part one (again not that the lyrics for part one are bad).

Lunch 05-03-2006 06:52 PM

I've always said that too. Gilmour's solo from 2:30 to about 5:00 is just incredible.

robo2448 05-03-2006 06:52 PM

Have A Cigar is my favorite off of WYWH and one of my favorite Floyd songs ever. The intro is awesome, the lyrics are great, Harper's voice works great with it, and the outro solo is definitely one of Gilmour's finest. I wrote the lyrical analysis of that song too:cool:.

Riva 05-03-2006 06:56 PM

Wish You Were Here rocks for it's lyrical depth, as well.

pigonthewing82 05-03-2006 06:59 PM

Have A Cigar was my favorite Pink Floyd song until I heard Echoes and Have A Cigar was pwned.

Riva 05-03-2006 07:01 PM

Wish You Were Here was my favourite until I heard Echoes and thought, you know, Fearless, Learning To Fly and The Trial are all a lot better as well.
Wish You Were Here was my favourite until I heard Echoes and thought, you know, Fearless, Learning To Fly and The Trial are all a lot better as well.
Hehe The Trial is cool, you know ... it is probably the only Floyd song which I find funny ... but of course it rocks too! Especially at the judge's speech section. I think Echoes is probably my favourite too, it's great to see them performing it on the Live At Pompeii DVD.

Riva 05-04-2006 06:04 PM

I just love the way Roger enounciates all the Judge's words whilst maintaing that voice. It's great.

MidnightRider 05-04-2006 07:27 PM

The Trial is so creepy, The Wall just wouldn't be the same without it.

I think SOYCD is my favorite part about WYWH, but why make that decision? It's the most complete and perfect album I can think of.

Riva 05-04-2006 11:01 PM

Ah, but what's better than agonising over where to rank your favourite song against other songs which seem to be just as good.

BigTrav415 05-04-2006 11:26 PM

All I know is that my favorite song ever is Echoes. Or SOYCD. Or myabe Fearless. Or San Tropez. Or WYWH. Or Dogs. Or Pigs. Or Sheep. :(

Riva 05-05-2006 01:27 AM

Haha. That's my dilemma!

Jim 05-05-2006 05:39 AM

Man I really dig Roger's voice. It's just got so much character. I tried to show my friends The Trial and they all said it was lame and stupid. :( Then they just put on Disturbed or something.

Some just can't be converted.

Riva 05-05-2006 06:25 AM

Lead them to me, and I shalt slay them with mine sword.

Jim 05-05-2006 06:45 AM

Better be some mighty sword! They is unconvertable they is! Not even the masterpiece of SOYCD would grab their attention! (although I think eight and a half minutes of instrumental before any actual lyrics may have been a bit of a steep learning curve for these members of generation NOW)

Meh, I find that a lot of teenager's wont even try to listen to Pink Floyd because they are 'old' and they don't think it would be cool to like stuff that their parent's do  . Or it has to have double bass in it just to be cool (Well, that's what I have discovered anyway ...).

I got a good friend of mine into Floyd about a year ago, of course he was saying how he would never like. So I played him Comfortably Numb, and then he bought The Wall the week after

Kreator2112 05-05-2006 09:46 AM

Soycd?

*Shine On You Crazy Diamond

robo2448 05-05-2006 11:28 AM

From what I've encountered, most people claim to listen to Floyd because of they're cool, trendy, and have that "stoner" image. A lot of people like this either listen to them only while stoned or don't listen to them at all. And then you've got all the ABITWPt.2 fanboys who don't know any other songs. But yeah, very few people are actually big fans. And I'm still looking for someone who knows who Syd Barrett is.

I actually got one of my friends to get The Wall. But he refuses to get any others. He doesn't "believe" in studio albums. Seriously, whenever I look at his ipod everything on there is a compilation except The Wall and 2 Traffic cds I burned for him.

LF96 05-05-2006 01:12 PM

I hate how ABITW(2) is always seen as anti-education. I don't think it was meant like that at all. It's more anti corrupt teachers or something as I see it. And yet, I always hear people namedropping that song in a same way as people say fuck school. I saw this badge in London around a week ago or so, and it said something like 'fuck school' written in the The Wall font on a background of a white wall...
