We used it for a lack of a better term. However, with the helpful invention of popcore™, we now have a name for it.
I thought that was used for stuff like The Used; that sort of thing e.g. Pop-punk with screaming. Alexis, especially their first album, strays quite alot from that type of music.

cbmartinez 05-03-2005 02:47 PM

True, the first album does have a little more depth to it. But new Underoath is definitely popcore.

Yeah definitely. But this still leaves the question: What genre would Alexis fall under?

Answers on a postcard.

BuddyBigsby 05-03-2005 03:24 PM

I really just think of them as a poppy/melodic rock band. There's really nothing "core" about them.

cbmartinez 05-03-2005 03:27 PM

But dey screem.

Even on their self-titled? It's not exaclty poppy; most of the songs don't have a chorus and it has lots of those melodic, atmospheric almost screamo-esque bits (althought the heavy parts are nowhere as near as chaotic).

Anyway, I guess they're just one of those bands that sort of fall inbetween genres.

Take out the screaming. It's still not "core". The music is far too structured and yes, poppy, for that.

cbmartinez 05-03-2005 06:26 PM

I wouldn't call the new album post-hardcore.

pixiesfanyo 05-03-2005 06:30 PM
I wouldn't call the new album post-hardcore.
Hey IM me at Pixiesfanyo if you want a Off Minor cd.

sink sink 05-03-2005 07:19 PM

Anyone have an album suggestion for Off Minor?

pixiesfanyo 05-03-2005 07:24 PM

Innominate.

PlasticGangster 05-03-2005 11:39 PM

nah, the heat death of the universe is where it's at.

Sep 05-04-2005 01:05 AM
Alexisonfire is post-hardcore. An interesting/melodic take on modern hardcore. Post-hardcore. Ya that makes sense.

Underoath epitomizes popcore so I'm not going to cater to your request. They are pop punk/hardcore if you don't want to compress it to popcore.
Yeah I suppose I've always seen emocore and post-hardcore as pretty much the same thing.
I was going to say post-hardcore but then I didn't think that sounded right for Underoath.

pixiesfanyo 05-04-2005 05:40 AM
nah, the heat death of the universe is where it's at.
Have you ever heard Innominate, it takes everything from Heat Death and makes it better.
nah, the heat death of the universe is where it's at.
I agree.
I definitely prefer Heat Death to Innominate.

Hahahaha....the past week at my school was hilarious. Last thursday i came to school and started going "You down with O.P.P?". A few kids responded right so i got a group of people to respond in a chant when i said "You down with O.P.P?". So then my other friends started their own group and my group and the other group just had this huge gang war. Both sides would recruit members and fight. It got thru my whole skool. People would go "Who you down w/; O.P.P. or A.R.S.(the othr group). It lasted until teusday when the school put all their staff on the feild to stop it. I fled when we were all caught. Then in the middle of running my friend and I found a cardboard box and started breakdancing when we were caught my the head staff member. My punishment was to stay off the feild for a week. So now the school is all worried about "gangs" and stuff like that. They are inforcing new rules at lunch like you can't be in groups, you can't chant anything, you can't clap, and you can't skip whiling holding hands(this one was enforced after my friend and i were skipping with our hand held and the lady caught me and my friend and told us to stop. So trevor,my friend, said "What about gay rights?"). The principles came out today and were worried. Its pretty weird b/c the school is a little sub-urban middle school and most people there, including myself, live in the sub-urbs.

RetiredAt21 05-06-2005 05:03 PM

...what?

Converge#12 05-06-2005 05:44 PM
...what?
cmon you know emos all about starting fake gangs in middle schools.

shane italian 05-06-2005 07:05 PM

Daughters got signed to Hydra Head.

BuddyBigsby 05-06-2005 08:09 PM

*loses all respect for otherwise great label*

Bartender 05-06-2005 08:53 PM

Maybe it's like a sting operation. Sign them to the label, then screw them over, over and over again, to stop them releasing much.

~All my life~ 05-07-2005 10:56 AM

wow emo and punk seem to devide into lots of different types of music, it would be quite cool to make some kind of spider diagram think, showing how the different types come along and examples of the bands who do that music.

shane italian 05-07-2005 11:00 AM
They don't make sense next to Harkonen and like old Cave-In.
And Botch and Coalesce...

But whatever. Hydra Head is gonna have a whole new fanbase.

PlasticGangster 05-07-2005 12:30 PM

in other news, malady broke up.

BuddyBigsby 05-07-2005 12:38 PM

Meh.

They should reform Pg. 99 now what with the DVD and reissue of Document 8 coming out.

PlasticGangster 05-07-2005 12:39 PM

That makes no sense, as O.P.P. isn't a gang. It's black slang for somebodies fuck buddy.

You stupid stupid person.

BuddyBigsby 05-07-2005 12:42 PM

No, Pg. 99. Then CoC if they have time.

PlasticGangster 05-07-2005 12:53 PM

RetiredAt21 05-07-2005 04:23 PM
