reflection is an awesome song, and the three songs fit together heaps well (disposition, reflection,triad)...even tho reflection starts off heaps slow it gets heaps kool and spiritual...i love it. but lateralus is my favourite tool song, and the album is my favourite too....its heaps arty and moody. i love it
I love Reflection, it's an amazing song that doesn't seem to get much credit from what I hear. I also think Lateralus is my favorite Tool song/albu. W00t |
That was a really good Patient cover. My band is working on 4 Degrees right now.
this holy gift that tool has gotten us all to see and understand, is to think for our selves. we are all one mind. one individuall mind, that shouldnt be told what not to do, but to have boundaries, these boudaries are made up in our own minds. when you hold that knife up to another kid, you argue with your self, and hopefully, talk your self out of stabbing him. i thank tool, and you should too, for with out them i dont think id have the amount of respect that i have for life. i think we all feel what tool is doing through there music, even if we are rendered unable to express it though words, soon speech and leterature will be obsolete, and there will be nothing but one mind. we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion......we are menat to think, if we dont, we mite aswell be dead.
just my thoughts...
Right on! I feel the same way. Tool has influenced me, and taught me to think for myself and question authority. And for that I am very thankful. |
My band hates Tool. I am the only fan. Then again, I'm also the only one who listens to any metal at all and the only prog the rest of my band touches is The Mars Volta and Dredg.

Thankyou one and all, for my time in the tool threads, its been an interesting 55-odd pages since I arrived, but now that most of the same stuff keeps coming up, I'm going to bid you farewell.
Keep analysing - sometimes maynard's "over-analysing" line has been intpreted to mean that we should NEVER analyise anything, ever. Its just a matter of realising when to stop, and that we can't affix a defintive meaning to everything. Its like a bike - take it apart to learn about, but just remember how to put the pieces back together! I'm sure I'll be drawn back to visit now and then...but keep up the intelligent discussion in the meantime, toolers...and APCers and PLCers etc etc Keep the peace! cheers - joe(a_U_M) |
Best thread ever. I'm a "Huge T00L" fan seen them 6 times wish I would have been in this post 70-some odd pages ago lol...good stuff. I remember my first time seeing T00L live at lalopalooza (sp) with snoop dog, korn and the marly bros and a lot more. It was in 97 during the aemina tour and he was still using his Sonor live!!! I was blown away at the sound quality and musicianship of the whole band. Man has thier music inspired me and brought me out of really low times in my life...I swear putting on some quality headphones and sitting there with your eyes closed and T00L jamming can do wonders. Danny is one of my favorite drummers in world and has kept me playing drums even when I wanted to give up.
Anyways if anyone is interested I have a cover of THE PATIENT at this site...no singer yet cuase we all know no one can sound like him...I also play drums on all the songs at the site except for the first two songs(which I will soon) and the last one. And if anyone else has any tunes/art you would like to share that have been inspired by T00L we would all love to see/hear as well.(cough cough stagefrightken and your sweet kit). http://www.soundclick.com/bands/9/markmattermusic.htm
I swear i've heard that cover on here before. Did you post it in another forum at some point? Also, i notice a lot of people are stopping their regular postings here since of repetition. That i can agree on, but at the moment ther really isnt a lot new to talk about with tool. I will keep posting up any news related to tool that I can dig up (if anyone hasnt checked out my last link with Adam's full set up, I urge you to do so now) But apart from that, all this thread is good for at the moment is asking tool related questions, and continuing the theme about learning/adapting their songs (and trust me, I aint going anywhere :thumb: ) |

Reflection is one my top favorite Tool songs, but its beauty only shines through if you listen to Disposition/Reflection/Triad in that order, since they flow really well and sound good next to each other... or at least I think they do. :) |
Most people think they sound best in that order, which was probably the biggest downfall in the whole alternate track order for Lateralus thing. Anyway, I'm just listening to Message To Harry Manback, and I want to know whats with the birds in the background?

A more in depth list of Adam's set up, rather than pictures of his 100+ pedals. Although im not too sure if this is accurate, the amps look correct, but I was convinced that Adam used a Morely wah? As well as this, there are a few things not lsited that he uses, but they are slightly more bizzare and probably not up for sale at most guitar stores |
I have that Wah pedal :D
|
I dont know exactly, id say its enhace the satirical side of things (the piano etc)
I dont know.. |
I like the fact that justin isn't afraid to use a whammy and wah pedal. the only bassist i've heard that uses a whammy.
|
I have never heard Justin use a Wah pedal.
He makes very good use of the Whammy, however. |
yea i like the bass whammy
|

He has quite the expensive setup. |

Then you've never heard Claypool. |
Then you've never heard Claypool.
I haven't, what kind of music are they? |
I haven't, what kind of music are they?
Its not a band. Its the basist Les Claypool from Primus, whom im more confident you will have heard of |
I have never heard Justin use a Wah pedal.
The Patient intro has it. |

Use flange. Practice your alternative picking and work up the speed. Let each note ring out. On distortion setting, it sounds a mess, but increase the amount of flange and it begins to sound correct. Just adjust till you find the correct level. Then find the ideal fret position for the muted parts (i find a different spot on every guitar) and you have all you need for the solo. Any more help needed for that song, post here. I love playing that song :D |
thanks man, my flangers a little different from most peoples but, i'll make it work.
|
AJG, can you send me a Black Mages, song, Your avatar reminded me to ask you. Think you could send me J E N O V A?
|
Easier method, you can download any of their last album tracks from here
(I like the fact that you knew where to leave a message where I was likely to see it  ) |

What are your settings for his distortion on Stinkfist? I can't seem to get it to sound right. And also, doesn't he use more flanger during the solo parts than during the rest of the song?
