I never liked The Misfits much...don't know why.

One of my best new songs I've heard is either Victoria's Secret by Sonata Arctica or Taking Back My Soul by Arch Enemy. The former because of its beautiful nature and great leads, the latter because of its great leads and unrelenting assault manner.
Is Arch Enemy powermetal?
I haven't heard them, anyway.

Stoic 08-04-2005 10:28 AM

Arch Enemy are by no means power metal.

I upload thre Dragon Slayer album by Dream Evil yesterday. Great power metal. Everyone here should like it.

Stoic 08-04-2005 10:49 AM

cheesy but fun to listen. thank you! :thumb:

Taste_My_Scythe 08-04-2005 10:57 AM

 Dream Evil. Mike posted the link to The Book of Heavy Metal. I couldn't stop laughing for ages.

Stoic 08-04-2005 11:00 AM
I never could get into Symphony X. I tried after hearing comparisons with DT, and when I was starting to listen to power metal, but their music just really isn't very interesting to me...it's a shame, considering how instrumentally talented they are. :/
Yeh, I know what is like when some band just doesnt "click" you. I'm not sure if they're similar to Dream Theater (not familiar with them) but I really like them. Strong and nice vocals too.

Hells Bells 08-04-2005 12:27 PM

I can't see how people are comparing DT and Symphony X. They're both progressive metal, but they don't sound anything alike.

No, they're melodeath. You haven't heard of them? They're an awesome band, you're missing out. I'll put some stuff up for you.

I listened to that just last week, and it was boring IMO. Not what I expected. I knew it would be cheesy, and I wanted a cheesy fast powerful power metal band.

Shattered_Future 08-04-2005 09:12 PM

Arch Enemy is awesome. One of the best melodeath bands to ever come from Sweden.

Dream Evil link...NOOOOO! I hate .rar...

Symphony X link: Awesome dude. Thanks. :thumb:

Yeah, they're decent. But when you speak of Sweden - Opeth comes to my mind.

To Trooper and Hells Bells:

You guys rule, those were awesome uploads.

People compare them because they're the two biggest progressive metal acts, most likely. They don't sound identical, but I would still say they have compareable sounds.

There's alot of good Power Metal bands on there, Sorcerer are great.

The website is similar to the old mp3.com, all legal downloads.

Enjoy :)

Honestly, the bands sound almost nothing alike...Symphony X has a wee bit of power metal in them, while Dream Theater is prog with lots of wankery solos (good wankery, mind you).

I love whoever does vocals for Symphony X...his voice is beastly.

This how power vocals should sound like. They give the music an aggressive touch unlike Nightwish's vocals

Just cause you're biased doesn't mean you have to tell the world.

It takes some getting used to...trust me, in a few months, you'll love them.

WetNoodle 08-05-2005 02:40 PM

Hey i skipped a few pages (50 something :D)

But are there any fans of Spanish power metal here?

Saratoga, Avalanch, Mago de oz etc... I'd be glad to upload some songs if you want.

Stoic 08-05-2005 02:42 PM

I'm not familiar with any spanish power. I've only heard that spanish groups usually sing in spanish :p. A few uploads would awesome! :)

WetNoodle 08-05-2005 02:44 PM

Lol yeah they do sing in spanish :D

Allright I'll get to it.

WetNoodle 08-05-2005 03:31 PM

I believe you mean fangirl :p

I don't mind the voice of the guy from Symphony X but sometimes they sound so amazingly cheesy I can't stand it. For example in Sea of Lies when he say Good and Evil I just want to hide in embarrasment for listening to such a thing.

haha I love DT's wankery solos :p .

And the singer for Symphony X is Russel Allen, he can pull off classical type singing and then get his voice to have an aggressive edge when the band's doing heavier stuff. The difference in how he sings in these two songs is crazy.

The Opera things Russel Allen does in Symphony X is amazing.

Hells Bells 08-05-2005 04:59 PM

Yeah it is, he's one of metal's most talented singers IMO.
