I have to read The Great Gatsby, but I'm not. I'm getting the SparksNotes, because I've read it already. I also have to read To Kill a Mockingbird, but I'm not too thrilled about it. I tried reading it a few years back, and couldn't get past the first chapter; it bored me to death.
Sparknotes rule :thumb: I actually liked To Kill a Mockingbird, it is a little boring at first, but it gets better. At least I think it dose.

evilmenhavenosongs 08-02-2005 08:45 AM

Yeah Shakespeare makes sense to me most of the time. I even get the jokes :upset:. I can't read it at the moment because it's packed in the bottom of a box somewhere anyway.

Silent Death 08-02-2005 08:45 AM
I thought The Scarlet Letter looked good, that's why I bought it. I haven't read it uet though.
I thought it was good when I read it.

Same here; Shakespeare was brilliant.

Definately! :thumb: I can't stand CliffsNotes for some reason. Yeah, I've got to attempt to read it anyways, so I might as well give it a chance. I'm doing Honors this year, so....that's why I've got to read one book per module.

evilmenhavenosongs 08-02-2005 08:47 AM

:D Score.

Now I only have half an hour to get ready. :( Thanks MX.

Taste_My_Scythe 08-02-2005 08:48 AM

What are you getting ready for?
Your welcome.

I'm not sure. A lot I think. There are two segments for the English III class for a full credit. I'm on segment one, all those books are for segment one, and there are 8 modules in segment one. It's weird. I'm wondering what's in segement two.

evilmenhavenosongs 08-02-2005 09:00 AM

Going to the cinema. It took less time getting ready than expected today actually.

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory :D

"Oompa loompa doop a dee doo". That's another theme tune to download.

John - so, are you going to FunSpot?

evilmenhavenosongs 08-02-2005 09:02 AM

It'd better be, if they botch it up I won't be happy. I'm already suspicious about those oompa loompas.

Stoic 08-02-2005 09:02 AM

I've just realized that all this time I spelled relevant wrong (relavant). But relevant comes from relate and we have words such relationship and relatives, right? Then why the heck relevant is spelt with a fucking "e" then?!

The Oompa Loompas are a little strange.

It's defiantely different, but it's true to the book and that's what matters. Plus, Tim Burton is morbid as hell, and you'll definately see some Burton in the film. No one could have done it better. Corpse Bride in september! \m/

Stoic - never really thought about that...

The English language, gotta love it. And we rag on foreigners for getting occasional words wrong.

:D I just found the oompa loompa songs on soulseek. :D

I love Tim Burton as well so it sounds fantastic.

Anyone care to help out with English III? What rhymes with "imp"?

evilmenhavenosongs 08-02-2005 09:07 AM

Gimp? Shrimp? Limp? Ink?

I read somewhere that the guy asked by Burton to write the screenplay had never seen the original, and when he did, he thought it was a lot darker than Burton's version. I thought this was interesting, because Burton's films are very dark. Although I thought the older one was too, it always creeped me out a little.

I'm a big Burton fan too.
Gimp? Shrimp? Limp? Ink?
Ah! Thanks! Gimp (as in the spirit, looked it up in the dictionary) will work. I have to write a Bradstreet like poem, 15 lines about The Scarlet Letter. Don't they know that the truly talented ones can't write poetry on command? *sigh* Apparently not. :p

John - definately. My life must suck real bad if I look forward to those, what, 6 hours once a year? Those six wonderful, go cart riding, people smashing hours, coming back with back and neck injuries. ah...wonderful...

evilmenhavenosongs 08-02-2005 09:12 AM

I think what makes Burton films special is how beautiful they are and just how surreal and polished. Sleepy Hollow is practically black and white the whole time and I love that. He always picks interesting stories as well, Edward Scissorhands etc.

P.S. Someone keep my new thread alive while I go out please. :(

Bye.

I have been looking forward to it to, it's just cause there isn't really anything to do around here.

Edit: Yeah, the people smashing and the neck injuries are the best part.

I dislike Burton, because of those fanboys that cheated on the polls...

I'm joking. I know we're talking about Tim Burton, and I dislike him too, mainly because of this group of girls that liked him, and those girls were bitches.

Wait, it's my first post and I'm not drinking lemonade. I always drink lemonade when I make my first post of the day! Good morning, MX. *opens lemonade*

Taste_My_Scythe 08-02-2005 09:19 AM
But will your parents let you go? :(
Now, did you have to bring that up? :p
Maybe if John and my best friend go, or a big group of us, and it's at the house of blues, and my mom starts approving of metal, and my dad stops agreeing with her on the subject of concerts....yeah.
No, I seriously doubt I will be able to go. But I'll beg if I have to. If not, it's not like this hasn't happened before. Friends will go, they'll get me pictures, it'll be like living through others. Again.

EDIT: Hey there, Gag. Lemonade is good. I had some the other day. Then we ran out. :upset: You're making me thirsty though. /gets up to get a drink

We call him Pipoca most of the time. (portuguese for popcorn)
