Daniel! 04-04-2006 08:44 PM

A Clockwork Orange.

neighborhood fascist 04-04-2006 08:56 PM

My friend has it, but he doesn't want to let me borrow it. He thinks I lose everything, which is kind of dumb. I consider myself the most responsible out of everyone I know.

I tried to read the book, but there was so much that I couldn't understand that I just gave up.

The Great Decay 04-04-2006 09:02 PM

I haven't read the book, but I imagine the slang would be confusing.

biografiend 04-04-2006 09:50 PM

The book and movie are both good, but I wish the movie had ended like the book. My friend's copy has a small slang dictionary in the back that was pretty useful.

I watched Brokeback Mountain and Crash this week. I was disappointed with Brokeback (the film score was mostly crap except for the main theme, the shots were pretty disappointing, not enough gay), but I would score Crash with a 7.2/10, which is pretty good in my book.

neighborhood fascist 04-04-2006 10:00 PM

Crash was terrible. I couldn't get more than ten minutes into the movie without feeling sick. Everything was just so contrived that it turned something that could've been great, stupefyingly gay. It's like their goal was to squeeze in as many stereotypes and racial slurs as possible into one movie. They succeeded all right, but the product was far from decent.

Perhaps I shouldn't be giving my opinion on the movie without having seen more than seven minutes of it.

Zmev 04-04-2006 11:08 PM

So if all goes as planned tomorrow I'll be going to school painted purple.

Guitar Hero is quite a fun game.

I loved that film. The first few scenes do in fact try to spread many stereotypes in a short amount of time, but the director did that so he could develop the story. Watch the entire thing and then see if that changes your mind. The ending is fantastic.

neighborhood fascist 04-05-2006 12:20 AM

I'll put it on my Netflix queue.

asymm 04-05-2006 09:35 AM
I'll put it on my Netflix queue.
Since you didn't like the first 7 minutes, don't expect to enjoy the remaining. It really is just short of a mess of a picture. All of it is as forced as you say it is. It also treats it's viewers as bumbling idiots. It tells you what to think instead of allowing your own decisions to be taken from the picture, a little subtlety would've gone a long way on Crash.

With that being said, I wouldn't say don't see it, but don't go in with 'high' hopes.

asymm 04-05-2006 09:37 AM

Speaking of movies, has anyone seen Thank You for Smoking ? I plan on seeing it this weekend, it looks hilarious.

neighborhood fascist 04-05-2006 10:46 AM

aymm and I agree on something? The world is going to end!

neighborhood fascist 04-05-2006 10:46 AM

(...soon!)

neighborhood fascist 04-05-2006 11:19 AM

I'll give it another go.

Haha, yes, I too was worried and sought shelter from the apocalypse after entering my reply.

Yeah.

I'm about this [ ] close to beating the darn thing.

The Great Decay 04-05-2006 01:29 PM

In light of me giving The Unicorns another shot and getting into them, I've decided to give Xiu Xiu another listen as well. What would be a good album to start with?

Xiu Xiu's most accessible has to be Fabulous Muscles.

I'm surprised you had to give the Unicorns another short. I thought everyone fell in love with them the first time.
Yeah.

Some of those indie songs are pretty good too. "All of This" especially strikes me as a really impressive pop song.

Kyle 04-05-2006 02:27 PM

Yo La Tengo and Mission of Burma :D

I just recently listened to Wolfmother, I love them. So I have another band to look forward to at Reading fest, I'm taking whatever I can get right now.

After much Pain and Suffering, I beat Bark at the Moon (), and I've got like 85% on Cowboys ().

The Great Decay 04-05-2006 02:33 PM

What console is Guitar Hero for?

neighborhood fascist 04-05-2006 02:59 PM

You're going to the Pitchfork Festival? I don't want to, but it's definitely worth the $30.

BillCosby 04-05-2006 03:14 PM
I'm so pumped for the Pitchfork Festival. Mission of Burma, Yo La Tengo, Chin Up Chin Up, Ted Leo, Mountain Goats, Band of Horses, Devendra Banhart, the Futureheads, the National, etc. These will be the best two days of my life.
I believe I speak for the majority of the Alt/Indie community when I extend to you a hearty:

I are jealous much.

asymm 04-05-2006 03:16 PM

Yeah, I'm going to Pfork's festival as well. It's going to be pretty damn good. Plus ... 38 artists for $30 and a record sale? Hell yes.

Zmev 04-05-2006 04:50 PM

I'm going to Lollapalooza, 130 bands for $130 bands, plus a graduation present to myself.

Glitterati 04-05-2006 05:49 PM

I'd be jealous, but, you know, I saw Alice Cooper in October. And might be seeing Elvis Costello in June. So I can't exactly complain :D

The Great Decay 04-05-2006 05:53 PM

How does Meat is Murder, or any other albums by The Smiths, compare to The Queen Is Dead?

PS2

Dog 04-05-2006 06:18 PM

Guitar Hero is really, really addictive. Especially when you get the multiplayer going.

Anxious 04-05-2006 09:21 PM

Theres this game at my work (arcade) thats called guitar freaks. Its a rip-off of DDR, theres "guitars" and you press the button on them at the right time to play them. It sucks.

130 bands for $130 bucks? Anyway, I hope to see you there. Chances of me going are actually slim atm, but if in fact I do go, it'll be glorious. $1 a band, crazy.

I would say that The Smiths is probably as good if not better than The Queen is Dead, with Meat is Murder and Strangeways following very closely behind. Meat is Murder is very underrated. Aside from one or two poor tracks it is an excellent album.

Can anybody tell me what the difference between the Intonation and Pitchfork
festivals is? Yeah, I know they're two different festivals, duh. But wasn't Intonation last year organized by Pitchfork as well?
