it's not bad for listening to music usually but when i try to make beats everything sounds quiet and stupid

are you sure you are using quality samples or EQ'ing stuff for impact?

garbage in, garbage out etc. I could do with a better soundcard, or speaker setup

My samples have always had a carboard quality and I've just barely started experimenting with EQ

this is beyond that tho, it didn't sound perfect on the desk top but on the laptop the mix starts sounding noticeably cruddy with just two tracks or so

I'm starting to manufacture drum samples from basic waveforms rather than by using sample packs.

Every drum sound I've ever used with Pink and Yellow was just a really distorted and tweaked out sample from an earlier song.

I pretty much wrote three songs and let them reproduce by budding
