Jake hit the nail on the head
|
But you don't use Eggs and balls interchangably...it'd be different if we were talking about one kind of ball versus another.
|
If you like that, you should definately check out the song The Drapery Falls.
Face Of Melinda >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Drapery Falls. And I LOVE The Drapery Falls. And Harvest is probably the weekest track on BWP for me also, I actually prefer Patterns in the Ivy to it. |
Eier literally means eggs, but it is slang for testicles. In the original context, it would translate directly to The Eggs of Satan, but if you consider the slang involved, to us English speakers, it would be The Balls of Satan.
Now, the thread name means The Balls of Tool. How hXc is that? :-D
Who told you that eggs is slang for testicles? |
Face Of Melinda >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Drapery Falls.
You're right but it's a little catchier and I was trying to pick somthing on the same album. Kage - That's what the FAQ on Toolshed says. |
Lepper Affinity might be my favorite just for the build-up at the beginning.
What album of theirs should I get next? Deliverance, Still Life, or Damnation. (I'm very glad we're talking about Opeth, btw) :thumb: |
Still Life.
|
Oh, well the FAQ on Tool knows everything, I guess.
Next time I talk to one of my German friends, I'm asking him. "Yuk, yuk, I just kicked you in the eggs LOLzz" |
Moses, he doesn't like the growls.
Dried Muffin, get Still Life if your looking for technical acoustic passages leading into all out riffing and sweet growls/clean vocals. Get Deliverance for something not that technical but really brutal sounding, and get Danmation if you want something all clean vocals and really soft and soothing. |
Well there's very little growling in that song, and when it comes in it's just perfect. It's actually the song that kind of made me start craving the growls.
|
It is perfect, I love the growled parts. But theres 2 full verses of it, which may be a bit much. And the melodies during the growled parts and inbetween them are truly awesome.
|
If you're talking about me, I don't mind his growling.... I just hate brutality. If it's heavy - it better be technical or ambience-laden.
From your description, I think I'll go with Still Life because it seems like the same style as BWP. I think I'd find all acoustic to be boring. I don't mind if a whole album is soft and soothing, but that's just not what I want from Opeth. Don't get me wrong, I like their softer stuff, I just want it blended in with heavy stuff because I like the shift in emotion. |
I just want it blended in with heavy stuff because I like the shift in emotion.
The reason I love Opeth. |
Were talking about faith about the growls.
****ation isn't really all acoustic, just either acoustic w/ clean guitars or slightly distorted guitars. I think you may enjoy this album much if you like Harvest. Hope Leaves is such a sweet song. As is Windowpane. |
BWP was the song that got me into them and The Drapery Falls made me start to search for them. When I found out the songs came from the same album I was like "I HAVE TO GET THIS ALBUM".
|
Who told you that eggs is slang for testicles?
Hablo espanol, entonces, yo se unos hechos que no sabes. :) Huevos is what Spanish-speaking people say as slang for testicles. It also means eggs, therefore, I'm guessing it's transferable. And it would also make a bit of sense. |
Wow, thats exactly what happened to me. At first I wasn't to sure (I only heard BWP) and if all their songs only had the growls like that one does, I probably wouldn't have searched. I'm glad I did though, and once I found The Drapery Falls I knew they would enter the top 3 of my new favorite bands.

Go Still Life for sure.
Well, after listening to Laterlus a few more times, I have deduced that my favorite is either The Grudge or Triad. I haven't downloaded Ĉmina yet, but I will and I shall let you know what I think. |
So you don't trust me?.. :upset:
Or me? /kicks Kage in die eier |
I just get angry when people just come in and say that it means the balls of satan, because it really doesn't. It goes along with my pet peave about uber. It's like, if you know you're using it incorrectly and are doing it anyway, then fine. Within the context of Tool's sense of "humor" on that song, it may mean that, but outside of that I really don't think that's a common use of it among German-speaking people.

BWP, the song, got me into them too. Bleak, or Lepper Affinity are my favorite songs by them now. There's a lot of that ignorance amongst Americans. Since I have more of a grasp on Spanish, I guess I'll use an example for that language. In English, we say "You're pulling my leg"; in Spanish, they actually say "You're pulling my hair", so if you said "you're pulling my leg" in spanish, in the context of someone giving you a hard time, the Spanish-speaking person would be confused. |

Uh, I know it is the right usage. I have family in germany, and I've spoken german since I was 9 |
Well, it could be wrong, but it just made sense to me, because Eggs means testicles in Spanish. Whatever, we'll find out when you talk to your German buds.
I think the title track is my favorite from BWP. The vocals are uber* wicked. */fucks with Kage some more. |
