Cool. Thanks.
16th notes = 4 notes per beat.
32nd notes = 8 notes per beat.

Ohh. Okay. That makes much more sense.

I remember in Rock Discipline, Pertucci was doing 32nd notes at (I forget) pretty fast. I think 185 bpm or something. haha.

Nah man, I think it was more like 16ths at 220, the chromatics thing.

Or 16th note triplets/sextuplets at 132bpm.

32nds at 185 is the equivalent of 16ths at 370bpm.

Which is this fast:

this band is sub par just as their musical talent is sub par and any teenage death metal band can reproduce this with ease and easily be better at it!.... the lead singer simply cannot sing....his screams are very boring! have no idea how you can listen to this the whole way through an album!

and before you go about criticising me for being against death metal etc you should know that my fav band is opeth......ahh a band with true musical talent as they float between pure beauty to pure rage so perfectly...not to mention mikael's growls!!!!!! now thats a musical talent....

had to edit it alittle bit...dont want to be too harsh......they are still no comparison to opeth

I'm Charming 05-24-2006 11:26 PM

Why do I get the sneaking feeling that in about 6 months, your opinion will be the complete opposite of what it is now?

Try the Inearthed demos. That's their greatest stuff imo.

And actually I was referring to how everyone starts off claiming all 'death metal' (just a tip, CoB is NOT death metal) sound the same, and they are talentless and whatnot. After about 4 or 5 months though, that usually changes.

Moses 05-25-2006 12:27 AM

I'm learning Kissing the Shadows now. Still, if anyone wants to do that cover, I'm willing.

I just got a new keyboard too.

I'm also learning this section of The Glass Prison by DT. That verse arpeggio thing.

Are you learning the guitar part or just keys?

Anyways. Universal Mind is MUCH easier than I thought.

The main riff isn't hard. The intro is rather tricky. I can play it almost up to speed but it sounds REALLY sloppy. So I started really slow. Which is where I'm at on it. Just going to slowly work the speed up with what sounds crisp and clear.

Here are the album rankings, according to me.

1. Follow The Reaper
2. Hatebreeder
3. Something Wild
4. Tokyo Warhearts (live)
5. Hatecrew Death roll

and then you have AYDY. :p

IheartSP 05-25-2006 04:36 AM

Bodom aren't Death Metal, Opeth aren't Death Metal. Bodom is Extreme Power Metal in their first 3 albums, and I guess Melodic Groove in their next 2? I don't know the genre for AYDY and HCDR is extremely hard to figure out. And Opeth are Extreme Progressive Metal. Neither one has a huge Death Metal influence.

And no, not any teenage band can write like Bodom. They are highly influenced by Bach and Mozart and have some stuff that is composed far beyond the skill of many people. I'd like to see you try and write something like Hatebreeder. Don't judge them off their new stuff it is almost like a different band.

Whatchoo talkin' bout, Julian? Opeth has tons of Death Metal influence!

Bodom, on the other hand, does not. Just harsh vocals.

And I wouldn't call Bodom's more recent material 'Melodic Groove', more along the lines of Post-Thrash. Or Horsecrap. Either works just fine.
Oh that programming. The most advanced stuff I know is:

size = 5 [b ] [/b ] etc lawl.

I think with your constant talk about maintaining accuracy, and aiming for that during practise as opposed to speed would make you a great teacher. I'd also do that too but you seem to know how to explain it much better. My words would just be the same old crap that everyone on message boards say. Start slow, keep it clean, get faster etc, I'd prefer to demonstrate.

But yeah, if you get the chance, you should definately try it at least.
i always thought i was pretty good with words. Explaining something that begins as a thought, and is executed by the muscles is very complex. The main problem I have with current DVD teachings/instructionals is that they rarely provide any insight as to WHAT exactly is happening. Since I'm 100% self-taught at this point, its fairly easy for me to recall my days at the beginning, and explain what I've done to over come these problems. I'm quite the technique whore.

MRDuCran 05-25-2006 01:45 PM
Blah blah blah
You need to sort it out. I don't have a problem with you not liking Children of Bodom, but coming in here just to say they you don't like them and that Opeth are better, that's pointless and I do have a problem with that. For your information, this band have plenty of music talent, and I hate Opeth because they're boring, goodbye.

That'd be awesome if you could record them both after. Now you have GP, you can download the tabs and use them as backing tracks by muting (M) the keyboard parts.

I know what you mean about not really teaching whats happening, it's all about how fast they can play a certain lick in Amin. Being self-taught as well, I can see where you're coming from and again, you'd make a great teacher.

Apparantly, they're about six pounder cannons.

I'm learning the key part that starts around 3:40-3:50 for the Glass Prison and I'm learning all the keys for Kissing the Shadows.

damn you rule mitch :thumb:

i had a semi-major breaking through with my picking hand. Ill give you a major update next week. Surprisingly, it came while i was doing the sweeping + tap solos in bed of razors. I was giddy for the rest of the night

lame, i know

MRDuCran 05-25-2006 03:00 PM

Tap solos in Bed of Razors? You mean you were improvising over it?

Shadows 05-25-2006 03:02 PM

I've seen many ways to play that solo, one of which involves sweeping and tapping.
Tap solos in Bed of Razors? You mean you were improvising over it?
nah nah

its a basic 5 string sweep up to the 15 fret, high e, then to the 19th fret. I COULD stretch it, if i were to use my middle finger on the 15th, index on the 12th, and pinky on the 19th, but i saw a video of a guy tapping the 19th, and i was like "DUH"
