I'm on my second listen of Vicarious, and it's definitely growing on me. The first thing I thought of upon hearing the riffs was Lateralus. It resembles the song and album in a lot of places, the palm muting reminded me of The Patient in particular. The progressive riffs and melody of the song reminded me of Aenema, the lyrics also seem more like the lyrics on Aenema. Some of Maynard's vocal melodies in this song reminded me of A Perfect Circle, which is an awesome thing because I really love his vocal melodies in A Perfect Circle and I think its great that he's incorporating that with this song. If anything this song has left me wanting more and incredibly curious about the rest of the album, musically and thematically.

Jesus, this is pandamonium.

Thats pretty good, I can't help to think that the song is about watching the War from your t.v.

Here's what I've revised from what a previous poster had tried to do as far as lyrics go...

I've only added a few words here and there that I got. Still a lot of missing spots.

I get the feeling its about renunciation from the world around you. "Vicariously I live while the whole world dies". Not allowing the world to affect you as an individual, a sense of identity separation from the world. "Stare like a zombie into the TV". Maynard has often expressed his dislike for TV, which is also the source of all media/bullsh'it that keeps young minds closed and such. It also reminds me of previous ideas in Lateralus. The idea of being eternal. Anyways thats my short little summary of the meaning I'm getting from it. I just couldn't help myself...I had to say something about the meaning.

...I...don't know what to say..

I hope this single dominates the commercial world, and makes it bow to it's truth..

This is just a piece of what many have been thinking for a while I'm sure. Or at least thought about..

This song *will* own, and ride off on the commercial worlds women..

Either way, this is all i'm going to be listening to for the weekend.
