i saw your plight from the start man. I think we are talking about different things. I was just backing up the artists POV
I understand, but being associated with peopel we don't like is a part of life.

I enjoy playing D&D, and I don't like being associated with the guys who forsake all hygiene, have their paychecks cashed at the game shop, and think Doritos are a legitimate food group. But I manage to deal with it anyway.

My grandparents are devout Christians and resent it when people associate them with lunatics like Fred Phelps and abortion clinic bombers. But they manage to be mature about it anyway.

If you play death metal, but don't like being associated with certain other bands in the genre, there's not much you can do about it except suck it in and be a mature adult about it.

Bartender 03-10-2006 01:07 PM

Or play something else.

I like genres.

/beaten. :(.
i like to classify the music i listen to, but i'm not a genre nut.

in other news, i listened to Death for the first time last night and thought they were pretty cool (downloaded Symbolic). today, Ollie has lent me Scream Bloody Gore, so i'm gonna have a listen of that.

i'm quite liking Infernal Death at the moment, i've just stuck SBG on.

/death metal convert.

well, maybe not. i think the reason i like Death so far, and haven't been put off them, is that you can hear the lyrics fairly easily.

After a while listening to other metal you'll get used to hearing the lyrics.

Jom 03-10-2006 01:18 PM

This whole week, I've been burning back-up copies of my albums (this has been an on-going project for many months).

Yeah, I'm only up to artists that start with D :(

This is going to take me until the end of summer, probably.

Oddly enough, that's when I thought I was going to be done last summer.

And I like genres, too. I probably mislabel everything, but I don't care because I appreciate the music the most more than the label.

i listen to plenty of metal, just not death metal that much. i have a few dark tranquility songs, an Arsis song, and that's about it, unless you call Wintersun tech melo-death (genre convo lol)

I have human in my computer at the moment, if you like log on to AIM and I'll do a sendage for you. It might take a while, though. :-|

Anyway, since winamp has very few combinations for metal and a lot other subgenres, I just put the general... eh... genre. That sounded awkward. :-|

Say metal or rock and that's it. Nonetheless, I like to have for all of my songs at least the band name, song name, album, year, track and genre (the id tag, the filename is usually just band name - track number - song name). In case I get an mp3 player and I don't have to look through 1000 songs named "artist - track 01" or something like that.

I have recently dove into the same endeavour, and it's talking me quite a while as well. Are you doing one album per CD, a bunch of albums on a DVD, or what?

i don't have AIM, i can borrow Human next week as well anyway, but thanks.
i use WMP to rip cds, i edit the genre field as it tends to call everything "Rock", "Reggae", or "Pop", which is just far to generic.

I was just informed that a fourteen year old was stabbed to death by a sixteen year old not too far from my house.

that's slightly worrying.
last night, in the nearest decent-sized town to me, there was a shooting.
there was a guy who used to own a pizza place, and his wife ran off with another guy, taking all his money. he sold up, bought a pub. last night, his ex-wife and her new bloke came into his pub, so he attempted to shoot the bloke. apparently he shot himself in the hand though

One album per CD-R.

My RecordNerd account just scratches the surface of the stuff I own, heh.

I'm worried my burner/disk drive is going to fry on me - I'm using my laptop.

Frank Castle for the dominating win.

is there any particular reason for burning all your cds?

Shattered_Future 03-10-2006 01:50 PM

He said he was backing them up from his computer, I'm assuming.

It's goddamn warm today...60 something degrees out, I believe. Quite pleasant, really...

Ideally I'd like to put one album per CD-R, but I don't know where I'll put over two thousand CD-R's.

Jom 03-10-2006 01:52 PM
is there any particular reason for burning all your cds?
Yeah - I've had far too many albums get broken by dumbass roommates, so burning them won't make me too pissed off. I'm still bitter about a couple albums being broken, even if they were just OSTs or something I don't listen to as often. I've just been anti-blessed with careless roommates, heh.

But with the addition of an external hard drive, that's a lot easier for me to carry all my music with me from school and home as opposed to lugging all my CDs with me.

Plus, it's nice for organizational purposes. For me, anyway.
Ideally I'd like to put one album per CD-R, but I don't know where I'll put over two thousand CD-R's.
I have three CD racks in my room at home that are really space-friendly, so I don't have that much of a problem, heh.

Bartender 03-10-2006 01:53 PM

That's not backing up, though; that's just burning downloaded albums, isn't it?

Kingofdudes 03-10-2006 01:54 PM

Ive got 3 backups for my album collection
1. my PC
2. my laptop
3. My MP3 player
