BillCosby 01-01-2005 03:17 PM

I just found "Days of Future Passed" by Moody Blues in my parent's CD collection.

Score.

My party was me, my two younger brothers, my dad, his girlfriend, and her 10 year old daughter. I don't think I had that option. :upset:

If he was 31 when he died in 1978, he had to be pretty **** young when The Who started getting famous....probably 17.

Illmatic 01-01-2005 06:28 PM
I was a tad bit confused as what that had to do with my post but it is indeed. I love that live disc to death. One time though on a trip back from somewhere we were listening to it in the car and my sister got all pissy and stupid. I hate when people are like that. Once at lunch we were listening to moby dick (off htwww) and some moron said "this sucks, I could play this it's just hitting stuff"
"Moby Dick" off of HtWWW is horrible. It's suicide-inducingly boring. A 15 minute drum solo? Are you kidding me? I hate how all amatuer musicians (drummers and guitarists alike) listen to this crap. I play guitar and I hate Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, and all the other "virtuosos" and I can't stand Dream Theater. And to use an example off of HtWWW, I don't like JImmy Page's sloppy guitar solo on "Heartbreaker" either. What possible explanation is there to liking it? "Dude, look at how talented it is!" It's like reading a book simply because it has a lot of big words in it.

Woodstock 01-01-2005 07:29 PM

I need another James Gang album. I have Rides Again, any suggestions?

RockAndRoll 01-01-2005 07:35 PM
It had nothing to do with your post, I just figured I'd direct it at you since you are a fellow drummer. You probably enjoy/appreciate it more than most others.
indeed It was a good comment. That's the conclusion I came to in the end. If only my friend hadn't cracked my live Wheels of fire cd. :(

Good point. But it doesn't mean he's a bad guitarist. I'm guessing you don't believe that Jimi Hendrix was the best guitarist that ever lived.

Anyways, I like 'Heartbreaker' of "How the West Was Won" not because of it's technicality, or because it's just "Jimmy Page man!" I like it because it seems that he was enjoying what he was playing. For me, there's nothing better than to hear a musician when he is enjoying himself/herself while performing in front of a live audience. Jimmy Page was never a guitarist who wanted to be perfect, he just wanted to play guitar, and that's what I like and that's what I feel he is doing on that track.

I was one of them kids who didn't see what Jimmy Page was all about. I thought people were dumb to go on and proclaim him one of the best guitarist there are. But that album won me over. They were a great live band. Sod everything else.

But it's cool that you have your own opinion, though. Don't take this as me trying to flame you, I was just bored and wanted to write something, since I haven't posted in here in so long.

PS: I think I'm gonna get me a Page avatar now...
"Moby Dick" off of HtWWW is horrible. It's suicide-inducingly boring. A 15 minute drum solo? Are you kidding me?
Ya, because we all know drums aren't a musical instrument that have potential to be used in interesting ways.
I hate how all amatuer musicians (drummers and guitarists alike)listen to this crap.
Oh and who are you exactly? Talking down on all these "amateur musicians". And since when are guitarists and drummers the only musicians?
I suppose you've never visited the drum forum where amateurs and pro's alike have drum solo competitions. And I suppose you've never visited a place like drummerworld.com where you might learn that all these supposedly unmusical show-offs can actually play music.
Whoopdie doo and good for you. What the fuck do you want? An award?
What possible explanation is there to liking it? "Dude, look at how talented it is!"It's like reading a book simply because it has a lot of big words in it.
You're so right. I mean, I've been such an idiot this whole time. What is wrong with me? I mean this whole time I've been sitting listening to virtuosos that have mastered instruments and use their mastery of the instruments to produce unique sounds and music. It's like I'm a writer trying to expand my vocabulary, what a dumb thing to do eh!

It's also wrong to listen to musicians that use their more limited skills to express music in interesting ways because that is also different, exciting and may lead to helping you create some amazing music. We sould ban all music that attempts to further expand on a musician's ability to express themselves.

Give me a break from your "musicality and proficiency cannot go hand in hand" attitude.

lunch998 01-01-2005 08:01 PM

I really enjoy Moby Dick on HTWWW. I find it interesting. It doesn't prove Bonham is the best drummer ever, but it doesn't need to. It just sounds good.
indeed It was a good comment. That's the conclusion I came to in the end. If only my friend hadn't cracked my live Wheels of fire cd. :(
...."friend"....?

slowhand 01-01-2005 08:06 PM

With friends like that, who needs enemies?

lunch998 01-01-2005 08:08 PM

Friends don't break the Wheels of Fire live Disc.

slowhand 01-01-2005 08:10 PM

Friends don't break anything that has to do with Cream.

RockAndRoll 01-01-2005 08:13 PM

It was a sad sad day. I'll tell you that.

RockAndRoll 01-01-2005 08:15 PM

I also have a friend that lost one of my The Who CD's in the bathroom. That's just weird.

slowhand 01-01-2005 08:17 PM

Did he buy you a new one or something?

No.

RockAndRoll 01-01-2005 08:22 PM

Okay a little trivia. The song "Grand Hotel" By Procol Harum inspired which Comedy Novel written by a man who has played guitar with Pink Floyd?

lunch998 01-01-2005 08:23 PM

You need to rethink your friend choices.

Has anyone heard Jethro Tull Live at the Isle of Wight? I found it and decided to pick it up, they seem to put on quite a show. Very good so far.

I think I know, but have an unfair advantage due to AIM.

slowhand 01-01-2005 08:25 PM

Then you better tell him to get you a new copy of it or something. If he buys you Wheels of Fire, give him the studio cd, and you take the live. He'll be happy and you'll be happy.

I don't think you do know, I think you know the author but not the right book(right series though).

slowhand 01-01-2005 08:29 PM

Cream makes everyone happy.

lunch998 01-01-2005 08:31 PM
Cream makes everyone happy.
Fresh Cream is so underrated.

slowhand 01-01-2005 08:36 PM

I think that Cream itself its incredibly underrated by rock fans. I don't know many people who have even listened to them. They were the ones who forged what would become Zeppelin's audience, but they have little to no recognition by today's listener.

What a shame.
