It's pretty good.

And br3ad LUXOR has always been a grumpy hardcore kid.

Little Man being Erased 03-24-2006 06:18 AM

Are you allowed to be grumpy and a kid?

JonM 03-24-2006 08:20 AM

I be on it all night, man. I be on it all day, straight up. Pimp, if you want me, you can find me in the A in 5 hours.

Too bad my spring break is a month after everyone else's.

My parents say I'm an old grumpy man (just like my grandfather) stuck in an 18 year olds body.

So I guess it must be possible.

Zmev 03-24-2006 03:05 PM

Got my college application today, going there tomorrow to register.

Yeah it does, I'm reading through the little preview of it they give you.
Should've went with Joy Division, sorry Nick Cave but you have nothing on Ian Curtis.
I'll check them out next time I get some cash.

Yeah it's a cool book. The chapter on the Minutemen was probably my favorite, but all the chapters were interesting. I'd recommend it to everyone, even people that aren't already fans of the bands that are being chronicled.

YDload 03-24-2006 06:01 PM

Speaking of bands in that book (I assume), I gave people in my class a little taste of Husker Du today. It was for a report: I analyzed the songs "Somewhere" and "Pink Turns to Blue," and they listened to them. Oh boy, what a fun experiment that was. I'm pretty sure they didn't LOVE it, but at least I blew their minds

"I can't hear anything, the guitars are too loud!"

Those were my exact thoughts on first listen. Now they're one of my favorite bands.

YDload 03-24-2006 07:03 PM

the first Husker Du song i ever heard (I think) was "Pink Turns To Blue" because Nacho recommended it in his review of Zen Arcade. i didnt think much of it at first but it really grew on me.

unfortunately, the kids in my class will pretty much never listen to them again. i doubt theyre even curious! but i did get the same question i always do when i let people listen to music i like:

"i didnt know you liked this kind of music! i thought you liked _____ [usually classical]!"

I Was A Kaleidoscope 03-24-2006 07:05 PM

Yeah, no one ever expects me to listen to what I listen to, it annoys me.
I've only ever heard one Husker Du song (Chartered Trips), I should definitely get Zen Arcade.

Well, that's definitely one of the best songs on the album. I was thinking of playing that one for the class, but they wouldn't like the vocals (which get pretty hoarse as the song goes on, same with "Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill").

one thing annoys me though: for all the reviews I've ever read about Zen Arcade, not one of them ever mentions "Hare Krisna" as being a parody of "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow. How hard is that to figure out?!

el doctor 03-24-2006 11:33 PM

I'm sitting through Larry the Cable Guy on Leno just so I can watch Neko Case.

6StringerII 03-24-2006 11:37 PM

I really need to check out Zen Arcade but I've never gotten the chance to. I'll download a few songs right now.

EDIT: I also saw Stay Alive tonight and really don't recommend it to anyone. It's not that great at all.

I hung out with a bunch of friends for a while last night. It was good but depressing because I realised I haven't done that for ages.

Ouch, that sucks. Larry the Cable Guy is the epitome of bad comedy. I hope his new movie bombs and his 15 minutes are over.

Kyle 03-25-2006 03:20 AM

I'm 18 today :D

Zmev 03-25-2006 03:37 AM

Happy not being 14 anymore.

Kyle 03-25-2006 04:37 AM

Aahh screw it, Radiohead tickets sold out in like 5 minutes. I even work up early on my Birthday to get them, pssh damn Ebay people.

br3ad_man 03-25-2006 04:56 AM

When Radiohead come back to Australia, I'll fly to see them if I have to.

I'm going to Thailand again at the end of the year with my family and coming back home on my own while they stay overseas for another couple of weeks. This kind of scares me, but I think it will be good plus living on my own for two weeks will be awesome.

xon 03-25-2006 05:21 AM

Kyles birthday?? congratulation!!!!
if you want to have tickets for a show which is already sold out you probably gonna pay about 60-70€ on ebay although they are actually about 30€.
thats a damn rip-off. i really hate that.

Kyle 03-25-2006 06:22 AM

Cheers man.

I'm not even gonna bother paying Ebay prices, I'll just hope to see them in an arena tour or something.

Radiobass81 03-25-2006 08:11 AM

Happy Birthday Kyle.

el doctor 03-25-2006 01:22 PM

I had a dream last night that I was at play rehearsal and suddenly everyone broke out into a Bee Thousand sing-a-long. It was glorious.

I flipped over to that from Letterman for about 30 seconds. Wow, was it bad. (Larry, not Neko)

ATM 03-25-2006 02:24 PM

How was Neko? Knock Loud is such an amazing song.

br3ad_man 03-25-2006 07:51 PM

ArrestThisMan is back, yay.

Happy birthday guy.

Happymeal 03-25-2006 09:52 PM

Welcome to the club Kyle. And welcome back ATM. :chug:

After being sandwiched between a 60 watt amp and a drum set for 2 hours of jamming in a 2 1/2 cubicle-sized room, I can safely say my ears aren't alright.

JonM 03-25-2006 10:50 PM

Bored bored bored. What's a new good record I need to listen to?

ATM 03-25-2006 11:00 PM

Hmm...check out:

Starlight Mints - Built on Squares

by the way guys, I never left! I changed my name from Slug

JonM 03-25-2006 11:01 PM

Yes, and it upset me greatly, and now I'm happy again.

ATM 03-25-2006 11:22 PM

Jose Gonzalez is good, as well.

It's a great book, the only weak chapter is on Beat Happening

But the other 12 bands more than make up for it.
When Radiohead come back to Australia, I'll fly to see them if I have to.
I've already done that once and I'll do it again if I have to when they come back. Well worth it.

br3ad_man 03-26-2006 05:05 AM

Indeed.
by the way guys, I never left! I changed my name from Slug
Yes and it's a definite change for the better.

JonM 03-26-2006 11:36 AM

I've had the Jose Gonzales record for a while and it's wonderful. I know Butch Walker well, and he's fallen out of favor with me since his days as a local boy, but interestingly I have never really listened to Elvis Costello, so I think I'll check him out.

Luxor 03-26-2006 11:37 AM

I wondered where this Slug character just appeared from.

Glitterati 03-26-2006 01:50 PM

Yes. Definitely check out Costello because he rooooooooooooooolz.
