2112, Counterparts, or Moving Pictures are good starting points. |
Guys I need some manowar and lots of it!
|
I can recomened Battle hymns and Triumph of steel. The first one is an absolute classic and the second one has Achilles on it which is one of my favorite manowar songs ever.

Perfect recommendations. Excellent albums by an excellent band. I love the whole Prog Rock thing, and I've been wanting to bet into bands such as King Crimson and Porcupine Tree. What are some suggestions of what I should pick up based up on my love of these albums: The Yes Album, Fragile, Tales From Topographic Oceans (Yes); 2112, Moving Pictures (Rush); Deloused in the Comatorium (The Mars Volta) |
King Crimson - In The Court of the Crimson King
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia |
King Crimson - In The Court of the Crimson King
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
Thank you. I'll get on that right away. |
You should also get Deadwing.
can anyone recomend me som testament....except for songs from practice wat u preach (cuz i hav it)
You don't have the Legacy!? :amaze:. But seriously, get The Legacy, it's a Thrash staple. Songs you might want to try: Dog Faced Gods, Raging Waters, C.O.T.L.O.D (Curse Of The Legions Of Death, this borders on Death metal actually), Over The Wall, The Haunting. I can't honestly recomend the Legacy enough to be honest with you. |
i think i should buy the Legacy quick....ur not the first person to recomend it to me...must be good :) .......but som other ppl sed the New Order is testaments best album.....any opinions on that?
and thnx!! |

and thnx!!
Yes, it's good. But from first impressions I am feeling that you enjoy heavier stuff? If these assumptions are correct, then the Legacy, no doubt. :) |
Yes, it's good.
But from first impressions I am feeling that you enjoy heavier stuff? If these assumptions are correct, then the Legacy, no doubt. :)
actualy im not realy a big fan of heavy stuff like death metal .....but wat i realy like is thrash metal like Iced earth and testaments Practice Whayt You Preach and so on....so now u now wat i like .....which is better for me.. Legacy or New Order?? |

|
Can someone recommend me some Burzum?
THX |
can someone recommend some good concept albums except for operation:mindcrime and all the pink floyd ones?
|
well realy ur assumtions rnt too far.....as long as its not death metal heavy...
Then it'll be your style exactly. I really think a common misconception of Death Metal is that it's all unrelentingly heavy. That is not true at all. You have Melodic Death Metal, which does have very loud and decidely random patches, yet it has a softer, gentle, and even more acoustic side. I would honestly check some out.
Can someone recommend me some Burzum? THX
Seen as Johnny already gave some, how about Burzum/Aske ? It's an E.P, and it has around 8 tracks on it. Each very eerie and atmospheric. Failing that deffinitely Filosofem, it's one of the better Black Metal releases. Failing those, just get Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, it's one of the best Metal releases ever. Johnny, you dark horse! :p |
If you want tr00 black metal style, get the self-titled album, with Det Som Engang Var being similar, but a little more atmospheric, and frankly listenable. Hvis Lyset Tar Oss/i] is is a four track, 45 minute album that has a more atmospheric feel to it, and it's probably my favourite album by Burzum...but if you're a fan of a rawer, underproduced sound than their earliest albums are what you should go for.
Thx dude. I've been wanting to check out this album, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, because i've heard some really good comments on it. Ill download their stuff right now. :thumb: |
The Beach Boys-Little Deuce Coupe
The Beatles-Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (kind of) Frank Zappa-Freak Out! The Zombies-Odessey And Oracle The Who-Tommy Kraftwerk-Autobahn David Bowie-The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars Marvin Gaye-What's Going On Nine Inch Nails-The Downward Spiral Husker Du-Zen Arcade Metallica-Master Of Puppets Opeth-Still Life Dream Theater-Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory Pain Of Salvation-Be The Mars Volta-Frances The Mute Neil Young-Greendale The Arcade Fire-Funeral All immediately came to mind, although obviously there are loads of others.
Master Of Puppets is not a concept album. But here is one Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway |
Aslo a lot of Pink Flyd.
Rush-2112 |
I respectfully disagree...I'd say that the overriding concept/theme holding it together is the idea of power, control, and how these can be abused by those holding them. There's no formal criteria for a concept album as far as I can tell, but I'd definitely count Master Of Puppets as one.
And besides, it can be looked at like this: Battery: Childhood abuse Master Of Puppets: Turning to drugs Eye Of The Beholder: Falling into madness (Welcome Home) Sanitarium: Being treated for madness Disposable Hero: Either joining the army, or being abused by the powers Leper Messiah: Realising the reality of religion Orion: Death, and a search for peace Damage Inc: Being dragged into Hell |

I really don't think MoP is a concept album at all :-/. Anyway, add Iron Maiden's Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, Porcupine Tree's Voyage 34 and In Absentia, A Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step, Iced Earth's Dark Saga and Night Of The Stormrider and Mastodon's Leviathan to that list. |

Track 3 is The Thing That Should Not Be. Plus, Orion doesn't really have a meaning, what with being an instrumental and all. And Damage Inc. is about nothing in particular. Sorry for the double post. |
Orion was a tribue to Cliff. That's meaning.
Orion was a tribue to Cliff. That's meaning.
Cliff was alive when the song was written, so wtf? A great concept album : Age of Silence - Acceleration |

P.S:....incase somone miss red it...i now nevermore is not death metal..... and can u recomend me any melodic death metal...lol |
Try with Dark Tranquility, its my favorite death melodic band.
|
My personal recommendations:
Any Tool CD, if I had to choose Aenima or Lateralus. 10 Years - The Autumn Effect Alice in Chains - Dirt Seether - Karma and Effect Mudvayne - Lost and Found |

I think when I get home from vacation I'll download a bunch of their stuff. I heard Masturbating the War God, which was a really cool song. It sounded like he was growling through a pillow, but everything, other the vocals, was excellent. |
Eye Of The Beholder is on And Justice For All. Track 3 is The Thing That Should Not Be. Plus, Orion doesn't really have a meaning, what with being an instrumental and all. And Damage Inc. is about nothing in particular.
Sorry for the double post.
I had Thing That Should Not Be in my head as I wrote it, I just mixed up the titles. And something that is an instrumental definitely has meaning. This is the idea that I came up with after listening to the album. |
Sorry for the double-post, but this addresses something completely different.

For the guy who asked about Melodic Death Metal, I'll suggest a few songs for you: Punish My Heaven by Dark Tranquillity Cathode Ray Sunshine by Dark Tranquillity Artifacts of the Black Rain by In Flames Square Nothing by In Flames Blinded By Fear by At The Gates The Chainheart Machine by Soilwork |
What Entombed album should I start with?
|
Wolverine's blues, it was one of their first albums I think and realy shows you what kind of sound they want to have and it has the track Wolverine's blues on it wich is one of my favorites by them.
