Their most unique album was probably Animals, really, because you have the pairing of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and Saucerful Of Secrets.

You could also pair up More and Obscured By Clouds, Meddle and Atom Heart Mother, and concievably connect Wish You Were Here, Darkside Of The Moon, The Wall and The Final Cut, though perhaps in a bit more twisted fashion.

And it's easy to put A Momentary Lapse of Reason with The Division Bell.

But Animals has that unique kind of "vibe", that dark proto-punk imagery that you hear in a lot of Dogs and Sheep.
Strange, I've never looked at the albums in that way but I definitely see those connections now. I sort of unconsciously put Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Final Cut in the same group, even though musically they are quite different. It's just that they oppose(and yet mirror) each other in that The Final Cut was almost soley Roger Waters and MLOR was a complete lack of him.
I actually think Animals was one of their least creative albums. It sounds like any old Progressive band could have pulled that off. I think they lost a-lot of their uniqueness on Animals.
It's not just the music though. It's the lyrics, and more importantly the concept of the album's rustic sound. Anyone could have made music like that, but did Pink Floyd.....?

BludgeonySteve 09-05-2006 10:19 PM
Nothing is better than The Wall on Vinyl.
Dark side of the moon on vinyl in the dark while intoxicated.

Seriously, i've listened to some Floyd vinyls; the remastering on the cds completely sucks the quality right out of them. Same goes for most Hendrix and Zeppelin.

Lunch 09-05-2006 10:21 PM

This is so cliche, but Darkside really is an amazing album when your under the influence. I've been rediscovering it lately anyway, it's so incredible.

BludgeonySteve 09-05-2006 10:24 PM

I haven't listened to any Pink Floyd for a month. But it's just because I played the hell out of everything I owned before that. Next time I listen to them, it will be great again.

I haven't been listening to them much latley.. I do that every once in a while, go through a metal phase. Like latley I've been listening to pretty much Children of Bodom, Opeth, Black Dahlia Murder, Norma Jean, Necrophagist.. etc. Plus I've been working and going to school. I've had literally one hour to myself the last 3 days.

Riva 09-10-2006 07:34 PM

Heh, for me a dry spell of Pink Floyd is 70 songs in one week. :p

Maybe one day I'll wake up and say "I hate Pink Floyd". :-/

I did. I fell asleep listening to them and had these wacko nightmares.

Then I listened to them again andl iked them, but I'm not gonna fall asleep listening to em again.

Noyana 09-10-2006 08:25 PM
I did. I fell asleep listening to them and had these wacko nightmares.
about what?

i hadn't listened to them for a couple weeks and put it on today... it really relaxed me. possibly because i was listening to shine on you crazy diamond, high hopes, learning to fly, etc. easy listening type stuff.

Lunch 09-10-2006 08:26 PM

My friend told me he would put on some Floyd before falling asleep to have cool dreams, he called the playlist "Pink Dreams". He was usually extremely high before doing so though.

Anglachel 09-10-2006 08:29 PM

I dont remember what the dreams were about, it was like years ago. But it freaked me out so much I remember being afraid to this day.

I went to sleep high once and decided I wasted weed.

6stringed 09-11-2006 09:08 PM

Dragon_Prince 09-12-2006 08:25 AM

Time 09-12-2006 09:00 AM

6stringed 09-12-2006 10:22 AM

maybe like "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" or somethin

magicbus 09-12-2006 11:03 AM

I recommend Meddle, and then Ummagumma and Obscured By Clouds.

inassociationwithdeanlearner 09-12-2006 11:29 AM

Nice avatar by the way magicbus.
Nice avatar by the way magicbus.
Thank ye kindly.

robo2448 09-12-2006 04:10 PM

I'd also recommend Pulse to the guy looking for a new album. But Meddle, Pulse, then Obscured By Clouds in that order I think.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-13-2006 09:44 PM

It's scientifically proved that music before and during sleep does not effect dreams.

Anxious 09-13-2006 10:02 PM
It's scientifically proved that music before and during sleep does not effect dreams.
It can. Psychology book. You can incorporate different stimuli from your enviroment into your dream. Music is a stimuli.

magicbus 09-13-2006 10:10 PM

All I know is I've never had scary dreams because I was "listening to Careful With That Axe" at the time. I don't buy it honestly.

There have been times where I could here the music in my dreams, usually as I'm waking up and might fall asleep for another 10 minutes. But that's about the extent of it.

Riva 09-14-2006 03:53 AM

I've been freaked out when I woke up to the scream in Careful With That Axe, Eugene. But that's about it for my sleep and Floyd related experiences.

ayeron 09-14-2006 04:04 AM

hehe, I only freaked out on Pink Floyd when I at Magic Mushrooms ;) Everywhere I looked, I saw the face of Syd Barrett
I've got Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Animals, DSOTM, The Wall and WYWH. what should i get next?
I guess Momentary Lapse of Reason would be nice, not really my favorite. I liked Meddle and Saucerful of Secrets, and I heard from a friend of mine that Pulse is wonderful.

I haven't listened to much Floyd in a while. Partly due to school, partly due to since my birthday, I've had a whole lot of new CD's. I'll probally listen to Animals, but I need to get my Piper cd and my chili peppers cd back from my friend (same friend as before).

edit: I've fallen asleep to The Wall, pretty creepy stuff

Danger Bird 09-16-2006 11:47 AM
I've been freaked out when I woke up to the scream in Careful With That Axe, Eugene. But that's about it for my sleep and Floyd related experiences.
Man, just try sitting in your room with the blinds closed when it's dark out and nobody's home, turn off all the lights, and listen to Careful With That Axe, Eugene with headphones. Marijuana improves the experience, but is not neccessary.

Riva 09-16-2006 11:38 PM

Hehe, I love headphones with Floyd. So many of their songs have that "moving" effect, like you hear on the end of Instellar Overdrive

Apocalyptic Raids 09-16-2006 11:41 PM

You fail at music appreciation.

Apocalyptic Raids 09-16-2006 11:46 PM
hehe, I only freaked out on Pink Floyd when I at Magic Mushrooms ;) Everywhere I looked, I saw the face of Syd Barrett
lol

dark side of the moon is creepy (i like it) when i smoke weed to it with headphones on in the dark

Like the song "On the Run" and "Any colour you like" are grand

Most their albums are amazing... The Divsion Bell "Cluster One" gives off a really creepy effect to it. (I love it)

Weed, No lights, and Head Phones make a huge enhancement to Pink Floyd.

standard 09-17-2006 09:30 AM

And just so everyone knows, Aussie Floyd announced their North American tour.

Everyone from North America must go. It's amazing.

Riva 09-17-2006 07:33 PM

I second that. As an obviously non-australian who hates Pink Floyd, I can say, completely unbiased, that it is a great show.

Yeah, I think that was convincing enough.

Lunch 09-17-2006 07:37 PM

You got my vote.

AnyColour74 09-17-2006 08:29 PM

any colour you like WOOOOOT
