If you loved GM and Crimson, get FHTI, its got some similarities in the polished recordings. I personally think Goddamnit! is their best work... although, I never have been able to fault the band.

billiejoe84 02-02-2006 01:29 PM

/doesn't have FHTI :upset:

Is that the one with Stupid Kid and Armageddon on it? I love both those songs.

Untitled 02-02-2006 01:32 PM

Yeah it is. And countless brillient songs, when i say countless i mean i cant remember how many is on the album.

Drop The Baby 02-02-2006 01:33 PM

Yeah that's the one, their best with ease i think. GM second best.

Crimson is by far and away, with out the mearest glimmer of a shadow of a doubt, their worst.

skingle 02-02-2006 01:53 PM

Seeing these guys on the 21st of this month. Should be a good time.

Chilly-Bean-Bop 02-02-2006 02:34 PM

IMO, Maybe I'll Catch Fire is their best.

chumpradio 02-02-2006 02:39 PM
IMO, Maybe I'll Catch Fire is their best.
I agree. I am going to listen to it now actually, haven't listened to the whole cd in ages.

Chilly-Bean-Bop 02-02-2006 02:43 PM

In ages?

Mute Print 02-02-2006 02:47 PM

I think I might be seeing Alkaline Trio in April with Against Me!

I'm actually only going for Against Me!, but whatever.

poprocks&coke 02-02-2006 03:58 PM

ROOD.

I'm also going to that show. I'm very happy.

...someone® 02-03-2006 11:30 AM

Hey. For my MusicTechnology A.Level course i need to cover a song as closely to the original. I am thinking of doing an AlkalineTrio song but I'm kinda confused about which one - Any ideas?

poprocks&coke 02-03-2006 02:57 PM

If you're an acoustic kind of man, I would suggest Blue in the Face. If not, Stupid Kid is easy to play if you have to do all the parts (I don't really know much about the drums though, as I'm not much of a drummer, but the guitar and bass parts are pretty easy). Or This Could Be Love would be fun to do.

billiejoe84 02-03-2006 03:06 PM

I think an important point to consider would be the level of production. If it has to sound as close to the original as possible, don't go for one of the more recent, polished-sounding recordings, as recreating that sort of sound is really hard unless you are really good with mixing and production and stuff. So I say go for one of the older songs.

poprocks&coke 02-03-2006 03:17 PM

Ahhh, very good point there Jimmy.

Something off Goddamnit maybe?

HitHardDrums55 02-03-2006 03:50 PM

sorry about that

poprocks&coke 02-06-2006 03:47 PM

Yeah but... it's what everyone will be expecting.

What about Goodbye Forever?

HitHardDrums55 02-06-2006 03:57 PM

people will be expecting Sorry About That, but not Blue In The Face?

poprocks&coke 02-06-2006 04:03 PM

Ahh, touché.

Dead Star 02-06-2006 04:44 PM

So I'm listening to Crimson.

I've realised that I love this album.

HitHardDrums55 02-06-2006 05:33 PM

you should love every album :) the trio are only the best band in the world...ya know, no big deal or anything :(

withering_rose 02-06-2006 10:17 PM

Alk, great band. I've been listening to pretty much them exclusivly the past couple of days. I'm currently listening to Death Bed.

I don't have a favorite album, I love all of their stuff.

"yeah they tried everything and everyone but you..."

Johnny Quest. 02-07-2006 11:38 AM

One of my favourite bands ever, i wish they would stop being so goth/emo and going back to wearing casual clothes and singing about getting drunk. They have an excellent, unique sound.

poprocks&coke 02-07-2006 01:05 PM

They can never be emo.

If your girlfriend breaks up with you:
Typical emo song - "You stole my heart and now I watch you let it bleed and the blood blossoms into the pure white of my soul which you have shredded with the razorblades or your kiss... bla bla bla."
Typical Trio song - "Step 1: Slit my throat, Step 2: Play in my blood, Step 3: Cover me in dirty sheets and run laughing out of the house, Step 4: Stop off at Edgebrook Creek and rinse your crimson hands, you took me hostage and made your demands, I couldn't meet them so you cut off my fingers, one by one... this could be love..."

See? They can't be emo, emos sing about how girls broke their hearts and they cry about it. The Trio just down 23 beers and write a song about how this girl is a bitch and they want to kill her.

There is a difference you know.

Oz Rembrandt 02-07-2006 01:25 PM

Who said they were emo?

Emo: Whine about it

Trio: Get even with it

Bad Blood 02-07-2006 01:41 PM

It's their look he's referring to.

They are starting to look quite gay though..

poprocks&coke 02-07-2006 01:54 PM

Bad Blood 02-07-2006 02:04 PM

However much I love them, it's true.

They've brought out the eyeliner and make up... and even the gay shirts and ties etc.

Firecracker 02-07-2006 02:59 PM

I like wearing shirts.

HitHardDrums55 02-07-2006 03:17 PM

Alkaline Trio would be hypocrites if they wrote about being totally drunk anymore...they've all either stopped or cut down to almost no alcohol and im pretty sure they dont do drugs anymore...so they write about history (manson family murders with Sadie, etc.) and stuff now.

derek is vegetarian and lactose intolerant.

Flex of the Yellow 02-07-2006 03:21 PM

nothing wrong with shirts and ties.

plus Trio usually have damn sharp suits lately, not the scruffy kind of emo shirt/tie combo with skintight jeans

*isn't emo, for the record

TakeWarning 02-08-2006 02:36 AM

I lose alot of respect for any band that wears eyeliner.

Oz Rembrandt 02-08-2006 11:15 AM
I lose alot of respect for any band that wears eyeliner.
Well gee, thats lame.

I have respect for a band if they're good these days. I honestly dont care how popular they are or how they look anymore, as long as they make good music.

HitHardDrums55 02-08-2006 03:25 PM

finally somebody who focuses on the actual music rather than how small or unknown a band is! thank god way to go oz!

Oz Rembrandt 02-08-2006 04:57 PM
finally somebody who focuses on the actual music rather than how small or unknown a band is! thank god way to go oz!
*Thank Satan

Your welcome. I did the image obsessed emo thing when I was like 15. Now I listen to a band before deciding how I feel about them (Eg: The Used, whom I hate with a passion).

I think its a process of growing up, and becoming VERY disollutioned with the music industry and youth scene these days.

Ross 02-08-2006 05:06 PM

Well I still fancy Tom Delongue.

Ross 02-08-2006 05:10 PM

Not today. My mum didn't wake me in the morning so I slept in till 11, then realised there was no point going in for 1 lesson :D

WTF was with Gordon sending me that pic of him eating a custard doughnut yesterday? Fag.

Oz Rembrandt 02-08-2006 05:25 PM
