I don't like Winterheart's guild that much, nor peticularly Silence...

The cae is awesome, but, I haven't "got" those albums yet I think.

shadow_stalker 09-05-2005 08:29 AM

Winterhearts guild is the worst out of the ablums i have heard, although it doeshave quite a few good songs on.

Shattered_Future 09-05-2005 08:41 AM

I thought Reckoning Night was one of their worst...for some reason, it doesn't have the sparkle that their other albums have.
I thought Reckoning Night was one of their worst...for some reason, it doesn't have the sparkle that their other albums have.
If by "sparkle" you mean it doesn't have constant double pedalling drumbeats at 180+bpm then I agree; I have always preferred my metal at medium pace anyway, and there are more variety of speed on RN - their older numbers, like Wolf and Raven for example are just too frenetic for my taste; I always think the power and impact of metal gets diminished when the bpm rate rises above a certain amount, I also really enjoy the quirky 6/8 time in The Boy Who Wanted To Be A Real Puppet, and the ballad-like Shamandalie. I just don't like my metal to sound like a machine gun. Sonata are still good, and I enjoy some of their earlier output, but I think that RN shows a maturity not present in their earlier albums, and is my unshakeable favourite.

Shattered_Future 09-05-2005 10:36 AM

Nooooo...I mean, it's almost as if they exhausted all their creative efforts on the earlier albums, and just threw this one together last minute...it doesn't have those jaw-dropping riffs found on the earlier albums.

Tony sounds a lot better on RN, though...I will admit that.

Kronos 09-05-2005 10:40 AM

Well there's always room for two sensible people to differ in their opinions, after all this is what MX is all about. This reminds me of our "which album is the heaviest" Nightwish debate!

Stoic 09-05-2005 10:45 AM

Guess who's just won an autographed Wuthering Heights album!

What is this thread title supposed to mean? War Council of Power Metal Arcana? What language?

thanks in advance :)
I thought Pierre Trudeau was dead.....

Why is he banned already? Off to a flying start, him.

Lord Abortion 09-05-2005 02:30 PM

Yeah, I like RN, don't get me wrong, especially the greatness of the last half, but Elliptica...I mean Bloody hell... Kingdom for a heart, fullmoon and letter to Dana are some of my favorite PM songs ever,

CaptainWaits 09-05-2005 05:29 PM

I bought Rhapsody's "Legendary Tales" yesterday. "Land of Immortals" has to be one of my favorite tracks of theirs already. Wicked song! The album overall is awesome as well. Now I just need "Dawn of Victory (Rhapsody's weakest effort IMO)," and "Power of the Dragonflame (which I'm yet to hear)".

Ah yes...quite fun, actually. :p

Land Of Immortals is ownage...it's up there with Emerald Sword as one of my favorite Rhapsody songs.

Those are my two favorite Rhapsody tracks

NP: Rhapsody - Emerald Sword

Slapping Penguin 09-06-2005 12:46 AM

Dawn of Victory is killer. Dawn of Victory and Holy Thunderforce. good stuff

Lord Abortion 09-06-2005 06:18 AM

The intro riff to emerald sword is one of the best PM riffs I have ever heard...

Steerpike 09-06-2005 06:47 AM

Emerald Sword and Nightfall are the two songs that got me started on power metal.

Lord Abortion 09-06-2005 07:01 AM

Hey, did you know there's a new Edguy EP and DVD out?
entitled "superheroes?"

and apparently the new stratovarius album sucks wang.

according to Metal hammer anyway.
also, NEW BODOM! get off your arses and buy it is all I'm saying, looks awesome.

also they rated Sonata Arctica's set at 13th day at 10/10
bollocks, we're gonna have to see them soon.

Steerpike 09-06-2005 07:02 AM

Yeah, I know about the Edguy releases. I'll be buying them later this month.

Skeksis 09-06-2005 08:14 AM
No no no no no...the best Sonata Arctica album has to be Winterheart's Guild.
Agreed. "Gravenimage" pwns my soul.
The intro riff to emerald sword is one of the best PM riffs I have ever heard...
Just listened to the Rhapsody album Neurotoxin posted. Well this is some of the purest forms of PM I've ever heard. It realy is 'fantasy' metal. The vocals are amazing, especially on Symphony of the enchanted lands. But what I really liked was the use of violin in most songs. It gave it a certain high fantasy feel to the whole album, though it is a bit overused in some songs.

Lord Abortion 09-06-2005 09:09 AM

Great riff, but it's behind most riffs iced earth have ever written,
has Jon Schaffer got some sort of compulsion to make kick-arse riffing?
It's sheer madness that one band has so many excellent riffs, I mean even on their few poorer songs, the riffs are still awesome

I missed Steerpike's Rhapsody uploads - could you oblige me by uploading those two? :D
/shameless cheek
must be catching around here

Lord Abortion 09-06-2005 02:59 PM

So, My PM album of the day is...

/fanfare

Dungeon- a rise to power!

especially Traumatised, stormchaser and lost in the light.

As of yesterday I have discovered what a stellar car/driving album that Stormrider is. Just pure ass kicking that doesn't let up. I love to have it cranked when I pull up to the soccer moms and rap-goers.

Taste_My_Scythe 09-06-2005 03:09 PM

Just curious, does anyone have any Skyfire? I'm pretty sure they fit under this category and I've sadly only got one song.

Neurotoxin 09-06-2005 03:10 PM

If you wait a couple of hours I can upload one of their albums. :)

I have a couple albums, great stuff. I'm about to leave, but perhaps I can throw some up later.

Arucard 09-06-2005 03:13 PM

When my Dad took me, my Brother and our mates to Paris to see Maiden, we drove through the streets of Paris at 1:00 Am blasting out 'Murders In The Rue Morgue.' It was great, because my dad has an Mondeo ST220 (http://www.harrys-fordpage.com/Mondeo%20ST220.jpg), so we could out run all the French bastards with Maiden blarring out really loud. We only stopped for beer

I'll get those done tonight after I finish my assignments.

And since I'm thinking of it, I've decided to give the War Council first glance at what to expect in the next chapter of my spotlight series. This Saturday, #20 on The Clarks will be up, and with it a poll with 4 new bands to choose from. Your options will be as follows:

Rhapsody - Journey to the Enchanted Lands
Warren Zevon - One of the Good Dead Ones
Atomic Bitchwax - Rock Is Not Dead
Candlemass - The Godfathers of Doom

Shattered_Future 09-06-2005 03:15 PM

Always with the beer, eh? :p

Murders is one of their best songs though...I love that harmonized solo riff.

EDIT: YES! CHANCES TO WHORE FOR CANDLEMASS! :p

Arucard 09-06-2005 03:16 PM

Yah, me and my friend Jamie stood in line for 3 hours drinking and singing Maiden songs really loud with French people looking at us cheering becase they couldn't pronounce/remeber all the words.

Taste_My_Scythe 09-06-2005 03:17 PM

 That's priceless

Arucard 09-06-2005 03:18 PM

It was great, as they couldn't sing the lyrics, they were all singing the riffs whilst we busted out some Bruce, twas awesome.

I'll wait and see what album you upload and put some stuff up later.

Neurotoxin 09-06-2005 06:29 PM

You might as well post some stuff. I can't upload any of their albums for a short while.

Alrighty then, I'll upload Mind Revolution and Spectral.

Lord Abortion 09-06-2005 06:50 PM

I realised today that the song somewhere far beyond touches on the Dark Tower series By Stephen King, that I'm in the midst of writing a couple of epic songs around.
Crap, I didn't copy them, right?

Taste_My_Scythe 09-06-2005 07:11 PM
If you wait a couple of hours I can upload one of their albums. :)
That would be great, thanks. Sorry, but I missed this post.

HellsBells - I don't know if you're just uploading for me, but if you are, I've already got Mind Revolution. That's the only one I have.

Ollie - Who is that by?
/loves the books and is interested
