geezers a good man but not much more than dio's

hypocracy hater 01-08-2005 06:27 AM
Who do you guy's think was a better lyricist, Geezer or Dio? I love Geezer's lyrics a whole lot more thn Dio.
Butler in Sabbath, but dio in other things.

Brew 01-08-2005 09:28 AM

Geezers lyrics are amazing. I've noticed that any time he's been working with Ozzy, the lyrics produced are always great.

Dio's lyrics are more fantasy/d&d style which is also great.

JACKROXYOU 01-08-2005 10:04 AM

lots of dragons and knights and crap like that

hypocracy hater 01-08-2005 10:07 AM

I'd say dio is more gothic romance
I've never really understood what's so great about Tony Iommi. The band in general is great, as far as helping to create heavy metal...but Tony Iommi is just a simple little solo and a three or four chords. Paranoid is only two...for christ sake.
He is a great guitarist. Of course he is not as fast as eg. yngwie malmsteen, but what would he need that for? Malmsteen's music gets boring, so does Satriani's in my opinion. And Tony Iommi's riffs don't get like that in Sabbath. They all sound great. And his solos. Unbelievably matching any song he writes, listenable (though as far as I hear they are based on pentatonic scale). Just cool. The one from Zero the Hero is a masterpiece, for example.

Edit: Andy, you are a power metal fan. So you gotta like killing evil princesses to save the beautiful dragons from them in metal lyrics. I personally don't.

The Essential 01-08-2005 11:53 AM

he creates catchy riffs, thats what a great guitarist does.

ToRidTheDisease 01-08-2005 12:17 PM

I'd go with Dio.

By the way, as you can see, i'm finally unbanned, it should have happened around tuesday.

Brew 01-08-2005 02:10 PM

Welcome back from the land of being banned.

willis2441 01-08-2005 11:54 PM

i was just watching battle for ozzfest and i saw the drummer from black sabbath, man does he look like $hit! he is a really good drummer though.

Brew 01-09-2005 09:18 AM

^Dude, he's 56.

hypocracy hater 01-09-2005 09:21 AM

and hes had a stroke

Brew 01-09-2005 09:44 AM

And many years of alcohol and drug abuse.

Fun fact: Tony and Bill have been in bands together since they were both 16, they're now both 56.

And its Black Sabbath's 35th anniversary this year.

Josh 01-09-2005 10:56 AM

thats pretty good. they must be one of the longest running bands. lord brum, have you not been drinking since new years eve?!?!?
neither have i actually. wow.

Brew 01-09-2005 11:19 AM

Nope, I don't intend drinking again for a few more months.

I think Black Sabbath are one of the longest running bands with all original members alive and able to play in the band.

ToRidTheDisease 01-09-2005 11:36 AM

So for the musicians in here...

What is your favorite Sabbath song to play on your instrument? Mine is probably Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

Brew 01-09-2005 11:49 AM

The Warning

Darkness 01-09-2005 12:14 PM

I'd have to say Electric funeral or iron man..

JACKROXYOU 01-09-2005 12:25 PM

iron man, war pigs, n.i.b.

Brew 01-09-2005 02:09 PM

Iron Man is good on bass, I've got the outro up to speed :)

IAJP 01-09-2005 02:12 PM

My favorurite sabbath song on guitar is supernaut, spiral architect or hand of doom :)

JACKROXYOU 01-09-2005 08:25 PM
Iron Man is good on bass, I've got the outro up to speed :)
intro bass on nib is fun as hell to play

CarRamRod 01-09-2005 10:22 PM

I love to play iron man just because ive added so much to the song ever since ive been playing it it goes for about 10 min (i love jamming to sabbath songs :) )

Achilles 01-09-2005 10:51 PM

I love playing Iron Man, and actually Paranoia too, even though it is the easiest Sabbath song there is...

And I'm a bass player, by the way

dUSK 01-10-2005 12:13 AM

I love playing NIB or War Pigs on guitar
