PlasticGangster 05-01-2005 10:56 PM

also, are there any other dates!?

BuddyBigsby 05-01-2005 10:58 PM
GO!!!!
Dude... it's South Central.

I'd rather drive 2 hours to San Diego, assuming they're playing the Che Cafe down there, which most emo/screamo bands play. I'm trying to find dates to see if there's another one I can go to, I found that date on the venue's myspace page.

PlasticGangster 05-02-2005 12:13 AM

blasts! i didn't find anything. i want to know if they're coming anywhere close to here. i'll take the bus if i have to!

Firecracker 05-02-2005 07:55 AM

What's the definition of screamo, does anyone wanna tell me?

Electric Ocean 05-02-2005 08:32 AM
heavy fast screamed hardcore parts, with abrupt starts and stops and guitar focus more from the classic emo side, and quiet, twinkly melodic parts in between.
Check out some of the bands on the first page, you need to hear it really. Try Saetia or Circle Takes The Square.

Sep 05-02-2005 08:40 AM

Yeah I'm kind of waiting for the definition Torn and Dfelon were gonna do.

Anyway, it's just an unknown type of music. It's like emo except vocals are usually screamed so little talking like Indian Summer of Saetia and it's more chaotic. A lot of the screamo songs I've heard have longer parts with no singing. The production quality usually isn't very good but neither is that of a most emo.

Anyway, that's just what I picked up from it, and I am no expert in this genre (or any genre, for that matter) but I am just trying to help you out here.

If I made any mistakes in that I'm sure someone who knows more about this will correct me.

If I could still vote for you for noob of the month, I would.

Sep 05-02-2005 08:46 AM

There's some emo/screamo bands on Purevolume; check out Circle Takes The Square, I Would Set Myself On Fire For You, A Day In Black And White, Van Johnson, Textbook Traitors. Those are all the ones I can remember at the moment.

Sep 05-02-2005 08:49 AM

There are also some The Kodan Armada and Kaospilot mp3s on their official websites, if I remember correctly.

Hot Cross are on there too and they're worth checking out.

Sep 05-02-2005 08:53 AM

Yeah but I'm not sure if she asked specifically for 'screamo' bands because with Hot Cross they don't really sound like screamo bands.

But yeah, if you haven't heard them definitely check them out.

I suppose, but they do sound a bit like Saetia, or at least they're earlier stuff does and they're a good starting point to get into the genre if you haven't heard much of it before.

You know your stuff.

lolz, first post in Emo/hardcore

Wow 05-02-2005 11:46 AM

Yay for Sep.

If you want like 5-10 screamo songs I'd be more than happy to send you some just so you can get a feel of what the genre's like.
lolz, first post in Emo/hardcore
And a magnificent one at that.

tornpictures 05-03-2005 07:51 AM

Hot Cross aren't emo!

Bartender 05-03-2005 07:53 AM

What are they?

tornpictures 05-03-2005 07:56 AM

A hardcore band.

RetiredAt21 05-03-2005 09:27 AM

Hot Cross never really struck me as a hardcore band. But eh, oh well, still amazing.

tornpictures 05-03-2005 10:27 AM

Call them whatever you like, but 'emo' is stretching it.

Calling just about any new band 'emo' is silly. Emo died like 8 years ago, and bands just don't do that kind of music anymore. Of course music evolves, but Hot Cross is so different to say, Indian Summer.

Death_cab_for_benfolds 05-03-2005 10:41 AM

What are underoath and alexisonfire classed as???does any1 like them

Sep 05-03-2005 11:24 AM

Emocore.

I like Alexisonfire a lot and Underoath is okay.

RetiredAt21 05-03-2005 11:24 AM

New Underoath is classifed as crap. Alexisonfire is decent, but that's really stretching it.

Bartender 05-03-2005 11:27 AM

Isn't emocore a tautology of sorts?

RetiredAt21 05-03-2005 11:29 AM

Emo stands for emotional hardcore, so really, emocore, doesn't make any sense.

Sep 05-03-2005 11:31 AM
Emocore is not what they're classified as.
Tell me what they are then, and don't say popcore.

Shikyo 05-03-2005 12:18 PM

The old Underoath is hardcore - at least I think. I don't know what to think about the new Underoath though. I don't know much about alexisonfire though.

Emocore is obviously more hardcore than Emo. Emo is when bands soften down and lose some of the hardcore elements but they do still have some hardcore there. I'm sure there's a difference between Saetia and Rites of Spring.

EDIT - http://www.fourfa.com <They would have better explainations than I would.

Electric Ocean 05-03-2005 01:13 PM
Emocore is not what they're classified as.
I've seen several people here use that as a label to categorize the type of stuff most misinformed people would call screamo.

cbmartinez 05-03-2005 02:04 PM

We used it for a lack of a better term. However, with the helpful invention of popcore™, we now have a name for it.
