The interlude to "Bleak" has moved me to tears. When you hear all the instruments coming together like that, it's powerful.
|
in my tme of need has that effect on me, the mellotron jsut sounds so, sad :(
|
Ok, lol im kind of hesitate to post this but has anyone ever got teary eyed or sad once they listened to opeth? I saw this thread and I heard great things about them, so I wanted to see what the fuss was about so I went out and bought Blackwater park...it blew me away I was hooked, and every now and then when I hear The Drapery Falls I still start to cry a little bit. I hope I'm not the only one
I don't cry, but there are times where I feel like I'm about to get teary eyed and want to cry, but don't. I guess I just think about things in my life when I'm listening to Opeth songs, and during the depressing parts or whatever, I feel that way. I like it thought, it makes me feel good. |
I really do hate to say this, but i personally think that Mikael's performance on the opeth dvd was bland, especially in the clean vocals department. all in all though, it was a good group performance
|
ive been told about Opeth by a few people, but i dont know which album to start with. Can anyone recommend something?
|
Start with Blackwater Park.
|
cheers
some people also say Deliverence but i saw some crap reviews |
Yeh, either go with Blackwater Park or Still Life.
|
Deliverance doesn't really encompass what Opeth is all about. Blackwater Park is what got me into them, and still remains my favorite album. I love all their albums but Blackwater Park, Still Life, and Morning Rise are my top three.
|
I say, Blackwater park, still life, or My arms your hearse, it has some Opeth favourites, such as When, and Demon of the fall, i think MAYH is definatly one to check out
|
start with blackwater park IMO
and after that, buy all their albums, and their dvd
I really do hate to say this, but i personally think that Mikael's performance on the opeth dvd was bland, especially in the clean vocals department. all in all though, it was a good group performance
really? I thought the dvd was ace, and if there is one thing I didn't like all that much, than it is that he can't do his growls as long live as on studio albums. on studio he seems to growl for 10 sec without any show of effort, but on the dvd it's more short bursts of growls. |
I also thought he was amazing on the DVD, but to each his own.

"In My Time Of Need" is God like.

Indeed, I know exactly what you're talking about. :) |

I'd go from beginning to latest if I were you... Orchid, Morningrise, My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, ****ation. So you can live the progression as if Orchid just came out. :D |

ow yes, man I jsut love the sound of the mollotron the choir like voice is so amazing. if only I could find out the chords SW pays there :( |

I personally thought his clean vocals were great.Very few vocalists sound as good as they do on albums. But Mikael sounded great.Much better than I expected.Perhaps a little less reverb on the mic would have been better. Anyway, I keep finding these 2 guitar lesson videos on Kazaa that are supposedly Opeth.Anyone know about these.I want to know if they are legit before I download them. |

All man, the first solo on The Leper Affinity almost turned me into a pouting little schoolgirl. The whole song did.I was in a soothing trance like I've never felt before, then that solo came in and I was like "holy shit"!! It was the closest I came to crying in like 4 years. Not because of a tragedy, or a break up, but because of Opeth  |
Opeth are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. I love how they swich from hardcore kinda stuff to more mellow stuff. They are one of the most interesting styles of music I have ever heard.

It's basically Mikael showing you how to play the different riffs from The Drapery Falls while Mendez and Peter sit around looking bored. |

Oh my God yes. I have to say though, "The Drapery Falls," is their greatest work, seriously, the music is just so.... epic. |
What's a mellotron?

Thanks.I'll download it.
What's a mellotron?
Its a keyboard I believe.I could be wrong though. |
Yeah, it's an old fashioned electronic synthesizer type thing. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the Beatles used one in "Strawberry Fields."
|
Sorry for the stupid question, but do you guys know of any good websites that carry Opeth shirts? I'm looking to get one, but I'm looking for one that isn't black. My entire wardrobe is black, and I need a shirt that has some other color. Any website would be appreciated.
|
Jonny Greenwood uses a mellotron a lot, as do a quite a few prog bands I believe. It's a keyboard/synthesiser thing that resonates with a reverbing sound, or something to that effect. That's what I've heard at least.
In response to post above; if you're looking for colored shirts other than black, I'm not sure Opeth is the band to do so with :P |
