Yes! Just found out today that my friends got their early requested Phish tickets, Phish already sent me an email saying i didn't receive any, but my friends got enough for them and me!

Gonna see Phish at alpine this summer, anyone else?

P.S. who's heard the new Umphrey's Mcgee album? It's really good with just a few parts that are kind of misses for me.

Ghostfire3 03-08-2009 03:08 PM

Don't have the funds right now to even think about buying Phish tickets..

But if I did want to go bad enough I would see them at Alpine on Sunday night, which is the last night of the tour.

Just got back from seeing EOTO. Fucking ruled.

Nice man, hopefully be seeing them when they come in April. I haven't seen 'em yet but I hear they put on a damn good show.

Ghostfire3 03-18-2009 05:42 PM

Oh yeah, and why has THIS not generated any discussion!?:

http://www.rothburyfestival.com/festival/artists.php

To put it simply, Rothbury is going to be EPIC this summer.. Who's goin? And which bands playing have drawn you in the most? :!

For me The Dead, Cheese, Yonder, Disco Biscuits, STS9 (2 nights), Lotus, EOTO, and others sealed the deal

robo2448 03-20-2009 05:45 PM

The lineup is pretty exciting, seeing The Dead and Bob Dylan in the same weekend would be very cool. Along with Mule, Jackie Greene and a bunch of other non-headliner bands. Also, a lot of those bands tend to be electronica/trance-based which is not really my thing. Not too hyped about the String Cheese reunion though, never really got into them and pretty much all their stuff i've enjoyed tends to be from 2000 or earlier. Plus at least where I'm from, SCI seemed to pick up a chunk of that DMB/OAR crowd, and that could damper the festival experience a little bit. Having said that, I think it's on the same level as the Bonnaroo lineup or higher (especially in terms of headliners) and can't imagine anyone going there and having a bad time.

But I'm perfectly happy going to mountain jam instead.

UmphreysHead 03-21-2009 12:26 AM

Anybody else the news about the second part of Phish's Summer tour? Four nights at Red Rocks, I'm so stoked.

thunderzstruck 03-21-2009 11:27 AM

ah man thatd be so awesome. id love to go to red rocks but i wouldnt be in school at that time so i dont think id be able to make it

been getting into the allman brothers (blue sky is a beautiful song) and i picked up Dicks Picks 3 yesterday. Pretty solid

robo2448 03-21-2009 12:04 PM

Yeah Phish at Red Rocks should be pretty incredible. i live nowhere near red rocks, so it's not happening for me, but have a good time. I've never seen Phish before (got into them right after their final tour) so I'd like to make it to a Phish show somewhere this summer.

I am kicking myself for being in New York City right now and not going to any of the Allman Beacon shows. I'm missing out like crazy. Clapton sat in with them the last two nights...

Lunch 03-21-2009 07:20 PM

I'd like to catch Phish this year but some old hacks + Warren Haynes took all my money.

I'm partially kidding. Phil, Billy, and Mickey are cool. I'll be in the nose-bleeds in Chicago watching Bobby murder a bunch of great songs, and probably having a damn good time.

Rothbury is nuts but it's too expensive - I'm gonna try to do their Work Exchange Program but other than that I wouldn't be able to make it. I think I'm going to 10k as well, not the greatest overall lineup but two nights of PANIC is gonna be huge.

I agree with Robo and the other guy who were talking about Umphrey's, you said pretty much exactly how I feel about them. I tried to give them another chance last week but they just don't do it for me. Too much talent and just no musicality.

How's everyone been? Seeing some good shows? Robo you're crazy, but there's still time (maybe, I have no idea what the ticket situation is like). I heard Phil and Bob are gonna be with them on the last night, or something like that. I caught a bunch of DSO shows over my "spring" break. Toledo, then Cleveland>Chicago>Milwaukee. Tons of fun. I've been reaaaally into Widespread Panic too. With Jimmy Herring they're bringing the heat again. See them if you get a chance.

Edit: Ghostfire, were you at the Chicago DSO show? They were on that night. Second set was fire the whole way through. Awesome China>Rider in the MIDDLE of the first set too.

robo2448 03-21-2009 07:31 PM

Yo Lunch, you need to check out the band Bloodkin. I just discovered them a few days ago- If you're on a Panic kick, you'll love them. They're also from Athens, GA and started around the same time as Panic jamming with them and playing the same clubs. They actually wrote Can't Get High, Henry Parsons Died, and End of the Show, some of favorite Panic songs. They have a really sweet new album too.

Yeah, I feel really dumb for missing the Allmans, but at least I'll catch them at Mountain Jam. Tickets sold out really fast, and the only night I had friends interested in going was last night, we were going to try to scalp tickets, but tickets were being sold on the street outside the Beacon for like $500-1,000 apiece, so we passed.

jpj 03-21-2009 08:12 PM

I still haven't seen Panic yet and it really pisses me off

robo2448 03-21-2009 10:14 PM

me neither. haven't really listened to them very much either, but i still would really like to see them.

I wish man. I was planning on going with a friend but he got really sick that day so I decided not to go. I knew a few other people that went though and they said it was flame so I'm pretty disappointed I missed out.

Oh yeah, and my friend was telling me you can do this payment plan thing for Rothbury where you pay like $100 up front and then they charge you $75 2 weeks later and then $75 again 2 weeks later if you want to go but can't pay for it all at once. Plus think about the Dead/Dylan headliners. It would probably cost about the same to see them alone separately. And I have a feeling they'll play together for a little bit which would be sweet. I realize that both the Dead and Dylan are far beyond their ability to perform like they used to but this year's Rothbury is just gonna be epic.

Also, I would love to go to 10K and see 2 nights of Panic but as I said before DMB headlining turned me completely off. Rothbury and (maybe) Summercamp is where my money's at this summer...

EDIT: And anyone planning on goin to 10K should make an effort to see BoomBox if you get a chance. They're pretty fun live

Broken Arrow 03-22-2009 09:11 PM

I saw the Panic in Ottawa but only caught a bit of their set. They covered Goin' Out West though. Also caught Primus that day.

thunderzstruck 03-24-2009 03:20 PM

I've been wanting to get into STS9 but I can't find any live shows to download (that are free, i refuse to pay for music if i dont get an actual copy)

This site will suit pretty much any live music needs of yours:

archive.org

Splendid website that people post live recordings of shows on and for streaming and/or downloading.

Now you have over 500 live STS9 shows to choose from :). However, I would suggest sorting by "Average Rating" or "Download Count" because those tend to be the best setlists with the best quality. Also, in terms of STS9 I would definitely suggest something older or at least before they released Peaceblaster as their live shows then were far better than they are now.

^It's true.

Also, search youtube for clips of them at the Beacon this March. Some great stuff going on during these shows, I think it can compare to them during their prime. John Bell and Jimmy Herring from Panic sat in last night, can't wait until that surfaces.

SgtPrimus 03-24-2009 07:13 PM

Ween is the only jam band I care for, if they are even considered one.

Go to the Archive (archive.org) and poke around. Lots of good quality shows. I'd recommend any of the nights from STS9's NYE Run in 2007 - 12/29,30,31 are the heat.

Listening to Can't Find My Way Home right now. Awesome. There's rumors of a Panic/ABB tour, maybe late summer>fall, that would be devastating.

Ghostfire3 03-26-2009 05:32 PM

Panic/Allman Brothers would be fire. Definitely wouldn't miss that especially since I've seen neither live

allconcert 03-27-2009 05:03 AM

Phish

Phish phucking rule! My favourite jam band of all time.

Favourite song - Fee

Song that got me started - Dirt.

It's been a while since I've seen a good band mentioned in the music forums.

CaptainWaits 03-27-2009 05:39 PM

What's the consensus on Medeski Martin and Wood here?

robo2448 03-28-2009 10:38 AM

Well I don't what everyone else thinks, but I think they're incredible, and most of us can probably agree on that. I'm seeing them in a couple weeks, pretty excited. I actually haven't heard any of their studio work, but I've caught them live a couple times and listened to a few other live shows and loved it all. Seeing them with Scofield was especially mind-melting.

jpj 03-28-2009 11:20 AM

An ABB/Panic tour would own, and would completely make up for not seeing ABB last summer.

Also, not jam band related, but I'm seeing Jane's Addiction with NIN this summer, which should be pretty cool.

Broken Arrow 03-29-2009 05:10 PM

Hey what are all you old CR dudes saying these days?

magicbus 03-30-2009 07:39 PM

Hi guys, what's cracklin'?

Lunch, you going to Lotus on Wednesday? I noticed you posted an event on facebook. I'm hoping to go, I have a decent sized exam the next morning though.

And I'm most likely going to Rothbury this year. That's where I'm at.

EDIT: Yeah definitely going to Lotus. We're taking a party bus from MSU to the concert and back. Can't pass up on that ****.

robo2448 04-03-2009 09:34 AM

Hey hey everyone.

I saw Railroad Earth on Tuesday night, really blew me away. 2nd set especially. They're an incredibly talented group of guys, each of them so talented with their respective instrument and they play together so tightly and well, it's pretty mindblowing. And they just have a great vibe to their shows, one could say almost Dead-like...

Man, I just can't wait for Mountain Jam. They just released the band schedule the other day, Saturday's lineup is a little lame but Friday and Sunday are absolutely incredible. Sunday's Richie Havens -> Billy Kreutzmann Trio -> The Derek Trucks Band -> Michael Franti & Spearhead -> The Allman Brothers Band is going to be like 8 straight hours of mind melting music.

shpongledosio 04-03-2009 09:31 PM

Hey whats up guys.

So who's making it out to the Mountaintop in WV for All Good 09? Great lineup this year and no overlapping sets gonna make for a wonderful festie, one of the best of the season. See you all on the mountain.
