I'm into Nightwish now due to that thread. The vocals are kind of annoying but the music is great.

You deffinetly should. "Jaktens Tid" is the album in my avatar, and "Nattfodd" is another really good album of theirs I've heard.

"Jaktens Tid" is what lead me to start the Folk/Viking Metal thread :)

I picked up a Virgin Steele promo, [I]The Book of Burning[/I], at my local cd shop (which is closing down due to poor business, so it was having a clearance sale). This is some good shi.t., I recommend everyone to check out some VIRGIN STEEEEEEELE.

I heard Finntroll is Finnish but sings in Swedish cause it sounds like troll.

I was watching the videos on Dragonforce's website, and it had one of Herman Li playing a solo for another band. The band sounded pretty cool, anyone know who it is?

It's not bad, I can listen to it, but it's not my idea of vocals at all. My favorite singer is Bruce Dickinson, I'm all about the power. Tarja has no power in her voice. It is quite melodic yes but I think for the powerful music Nightwish has they could have a more powerful singer.

That's where Marco comes in...can't say he doesn't have a powerful voice. :evil:

I disagree. I do think that Tarja has a powerful voice, and when Marco comes in it adds to it. My opinion. *shrugs*

I think he means what I mean when I say I want them to have grind in their voice. Remember? You had uploaded a few edguy tracks to show me that Tobias can sing this way whenever he wants. You had used a more accurate word to describe this vocal style. Ideal, aggressive power vocalists for me are Dio, Russell Allen and Hansi Kursch.

Bruce is a tenor. Hetfield is a baritone. Rob Halford is also a tenor, and Matt Barlow and Glenn Danzig are bass/baritones.

I wish so many power metal bands wouldnt use keyboards as much as they do, it gives the songs a great sound but makes them rather hard to do a decent cover of

I never liked The Misfits much...don't know why.

One of my best new songs I've heard is either Victoria's Secret by Sonata Arctica or Taking Back My Soul by Arch Enemy. The former because of its beautiful nature and great leads, the latter because of its great leads and unrelenting assault manner.

EDIT: Amen to the second part of that. Keys are great, but it's WAY too hard to find a decent keyboard player who can actually DO all that.

My band has a keyboard player...he's decent, but not up to the level of most power metal songs. I don't think ANY of my band is. :upset:

I was on the verge of going off on one when I read this, but I won't. Let me put it like this; you're wrong. You can not like her voice - it's your opinion, but to say that her voice isn't powerful is not gonna hold up. I think Nightwish is perfect as it is; the very thought of Bruce Dickinson fronting the band fills me with horror.
