There aren't usually any shakedowns, but smoking in your room is risky and annoying, though you'll always do it anyway once you learn how you can get away with it (bathroom is a good idea). yeah maybe dj shadow did a track or two sans vocals but that shits still gunna be super hard to find.

DJ Shadow is definitely trip hop
