Illmatic 02-16-2005 04:18 PM

My problem with a lot of voices (even supposedly talented ones) is that they're just plain boring, unable to convey any type of emotion.

Permanent Solution 02-16-2005 04:19 PM
Haha, that's definitely understandable.

When you get a chance to go through all the songs, let me know and give an honest opinion about them. I'm not going to fanboy you, because every band has a weakness or two.
I'm on the thid song right now, still biggest issue I have is the vocals, especially because it's so dominant. The funny thing is this is pretty similar to 12 stones, who I like, but I think the vocals are just mixed a little too high in general. Otherwise I don't think it's bad, but not great either. Average thus far.

I'm not afraid to admit I like some Good Charlotte every once in awhile.

DN: For example? I do like emotion to a degree, but I can't stand (real) emo voices, which are supposed to be all emotion.

superpeer 02-16-2005 04:21 PM

Ok, fellas, here's a Belgian song for y'all to check out. It's a ballad of some sort, with clean guitars and piano. It's in my native Language. If anyone wants to hear it, go ahead. :)

I love it, personally.

Bob Dylan is definately the first one that comes to mind. His voice as so much depth to it, he can use it to convey so many things.

Bowie's voice is good too.

I'll have to get back to for more...I've been listening to rap a lot [more than I already do] lately so I'm still not sure.

I didn't mind Good Charlotte before, some of their songs were catchy, and although their attitude was laughable, they could sometimes be enjoyable.

But the new things they've put out are just horrible, it's pure pop and they look even worse than before. They should've stuck to very simply pop rock songs.

I'd like some too, lyrics are usually important in ballad-type songs...
how would you define emo then?
Go to the Hardcore/Emo forum and go to the definitions thread.

Emo is not poppy, it is normally ugly sounding actually, the lyrical topics re based upon relationships and the such.

Good Charlotte = Poppy, "rebelious", and they write about not fitting in, they are not emo at all... save songs like Seasons and Change

Distant Echoes 02-16-2005 04:36 PM

That underrated singers thread is actually working half well, minimal flaming, soon enough though, there will be people saying how bad Corey Taylor is because people were saying he can actually sing.

sterren komen, sterren gaan
alleen Elvis blijft bestaan
Mia heeft nooit afgezien
ze vraagt: kun jij nog dromen?

De middenstand regeert het land
beter dan ooit tevoren
Mia heeft het licht gezien
ze zegt: niemand gaat verloren

sterren komen, sterren gaan
alleen Elvis blijft bestaan
Mia heeft nooit afgezien
ze vraagt: kun jij nog dromen?

Original Lyrics.

When I was hungry, I came to you...
You said: You can eat if you do the dishes,
People Like you shouldn't be picky,
Give them a chance before they do stupid things

The Middle Class rules the country
Better than ever before
Mia* has seen the light
She says: No one goes astray
(*Mia is a girls' name, if you didn't know :p)

For now, we will go on
On the Lightened path, on the wrong trail
You can find people like me everywhere
On the labour market, in this valley of tears

Stars come and Stars go
Only Elvis keeps on existing
Mia never suffered (in a kind of connotation usually meaning when she died)
She asks : "Can you still dream? :("

The Middle Class rules the country
Better than ever before
Mia* has seen the light
She says: No one goes astray

Stars come and Stars go
Only Elvis keeps on existing
Mia never suffered
She asks : "Can you still dream? :("
