That's really awful, man.

bury yourself in music for a while, then try and work out the best way to talk to the Dean and your family

steerpike : Im not going to comment on your decision making process, but i will say i had to leave school for financial reasons that were literally beyond my control.

Its funny me sitting here now, thinking that my world, like yours, would be coming to end. The amazing thing is how my life looped around, and came into a very unfamiliar realm that i never would have suspected for a moment.

That being said, i wouldnt give up hope just for 2 exams bro
I mean Midway...
there was a very annoying nemesis created for Jax and Sonia in that game, called either Jarret, or Garret, I can't recall.
Either it was deliberate on the ending scenes with them falling over a cliff with Sonia shouting "Jaaareet! Jax!" as a reference to that book, or it's a total coincidence and I play too many games:)
I never knew of that before, wow, gg on originality Midway... though it could be coincidence...

Also, I love the theme songs such as:
Sub-Zero, Chinese ninja warrior!

Despite the band he's in now, he's really freaking emotastic, so it's kinda a mix of staying to his real roots, and trying to seam gritty.
I just botched two of my midterms. There's no way I cna pass either of those classes now.

The earliest time I could schedule a talk with any one was one of the professors this Friday. I don't get to speak with dean until after break on Monday the 20th.

If I can't work out an agreement with him, I'm going to be kicked out of college at the end of the semester.

And it's all because I let myself become so focused on my own personal projects that I neglected studying and work in all but two of my classes. I let my tunnel vision take over and I insanely justified all of my irresponsible decisions. Now I have to pay the price and it may cost me my degree.

I'm trying to get ahold of my family, figuring it's better to get this overwith, but none of the are answering their phones, so I'm left here to stew in it.

God, I feel like there's a lead weight on my heart. I don't know what to do anymore.
Good luck with that. If it's any comfort, I was about that close to being kicked off a module (albeit for different reasons), and thus failing my degree course, in my first year, and having a talk with the man in charge eventually sorted it all out. Obviously I've no idea how your place works, though :-/

What year of your course are you on, incidentally?

Cain 03-08-2006 04:17 PM

Steerpike: I'm positive that if your professors have any hearts at all and you tell them, word-for-word, what you just told us, they'll let you stay. You'll probably have to stay on another year, though, but given today's job climate, you don't want to be without a degree.

Just be honest with them. If they feel that you can genuinely turn yourself around they'll probably be able to work something out with you.

I'm sorry to hear this. :(

Cain, do you visit the Other forum much?

Steerpike 03-08-2006 04:27 PM

I'm a junior right now.

I managed to get through to my parents and they've promised to raise hell if necessary to keep me enrolled.

I just wish I had better willpower so I wouldn't be in this situation right now. Like I said, I let tunnel vision take over. There were times when I was working on scripts, proposals, and outlines so hard that I forgot not only to go to class, but to eat. For me to manage to pull off both in a single day is pretty impressive.

Cain 03-08-2006 04:30 PM
Cain, do you visit the Other forum much?
You mean the Other Music forum, or is there an internet forum called "The Other Forum?"

The answer to both questions is "no" in any case. :p Why do you ask?

Bartender 03-08-2006 04:37 PM

Heh, I mean the Other Music forum, yeah. Just that some guy is asking for New Age/Celtic recommendations, and I wondered if that's the kind of thing you'd like to respond to.

Well good luck to you and I hope that sh*t works out for you. If it makes you feel any better, I had to give up schooling recently just so I can take care of my fiance and my baby. Yeah, it really broke my heart to leave school, but things always get better eventually. I'm actually a lot happier doing what I'm doing right now. I do want to finish getting my degree, but I still do have 40+ years left in my life and I will eventually finish.

My point to you is, even if you do get kicked out of school, life won't end. Yeah it'll be a real pain trying to figure out what to do next, but sh*t always works itself out in the end.

Kind of ironic, but it seems that you're as overly ambitious as I am.:p That's a good thing but I can totally relate to the constant need to do too much at once.

My advice to you regarding your professors is to be completely honest with them. Explain that you've really messed up and want a second chance. It's really awesome that you're parents are backing you up regardless of your mistakes. That will come in handy if things get deep.
Try to work out a plan with the prof. that will get you caught up and also try to budget your time with a planner. THEY REALLY DO WORK!!! That way you can even fit in your quality time with mac and cheese.

gillygan 03-08-2006 04:55 PM

So this is pretty gay.

My mom was parked outside a store. Some rich bitch parks her car as close as she can to my moms car. My mom drives out of her spot not hitting the other car, and the lady comes up and says she hit her car.

There were little scuffs on her car, but my mom didn't feel anything, and theres bunch of grime on the back of my moms car. None of it was disturbed. The lady was a dick about it too. She filed an insurance claim on my mom becasue of some little scuff marks on her car.

So most likeley, my moms insurance will increase to be 1500 dollars more over the next 3 years.

Stupid rich a'sshole who dosn't realize nor care about other people. :(

Mac and Cheese?
Like the foodstuff?
Is there some sort of memo that does not get as far as me?

Shattered_Future 03-08-2006 04:57 PM

Firebomb the lady's car. :smash:

You'll find people like that all the time...it makes me want to beat them over the head with a shovel.

I think what's being implied is that, as a college student, all you can afford is stuff like that. Which isn't that far from the truth, from what I've heard.

Oh, I was just trying to help out steerpike. Seems he got himself in a bit of a pickle with school and they're trying to kick him out. Says he got so caught up with writing scripts and whatnot, he can't even find time to eat.

Just trying to help him out by suggesting gettin' a planner, then he can eat and do schoolwork and write scripts.

Hope I caught you up a bit.

Not only that but that's all you have TIME for. I've had to literally study and do homework WHILE cooking just so I wouldn't be late for work. College life gets really freakin' busy. Especially during midterms and final exams. I've seen ppl faint from the pressure.

Mazeppa 03-08-2006 05:14 PM

Well I just went and practised piano and I finally managed to play right through Chopin's Prelude in E minor, something I've been striving for for a few weeks. So that you can hear what I'm on about, I uploaded it onto put file.

Link.

This isn't me playing though, I've yet to figure out how I'd go about recording the piano. Still, I'm pretty thrilled about it. Highlight of my week so far.

Yeah, I realised this, I was just puzzled at what Macaroni and cheese had to do with it, now I realise.

Well if you could get a piano or a keyboard near your computer, just download audacity and use your computers microphone to record. The quality sucks, but at least other ppl can hear you play.

And no college person could ever live without mac and cheese. That and fast food. They rock!!!

That's not possible. I'm lucky enough to have a grand piano (not quite the full concert size) to practise on, and there's no way I could get a piano up to my room. I suppose something might be possible if I bought a keyboard, but the sound just isn't the same :/

I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding a concert piano sounding better, but the point I'm making is that you sound like a really skilled musician and that's more or less what you want ppl to hear, doesn't really matter if you use a baby grand or a $10 kiddy keyboard, ppl do know amazing talent when they hear it.

Haha thanks, I'll be sure to post some recording in and when I sort them out. Reminds me that my teacher did suggest I buy a midi keyboard, as that would allow me to play straight into the computer and Sibelius - a score writing program I sometimes play around with. I'll see what happens I guess.

Bartender 03-08-2006 05:39 PM

How about taking the computer to the grand?

Mazeppa 03-08-2006 05:42 PM

Hmm. Well now that you mention it I suppose I could commandeer my dad's laptop for the purpose. Get audacity on it, and then I would just need a mike, and I'm sure my friend has one. Good call, I will investigate this.
