yeh they are but if paul stayed maiden might have been stuck in a creative rut - kinda held back by him
i wouldnt say so. Paul had a great range but alot of his songs didnt need that range. Iron maiden definately wouldnt be as big as they are now, but Paul certainly didnt hold maiden back.

As for blaze, i wouldnt mind if he was the voice for BNW. But he did definately leave at the right time.

And i <3 killers
Long time no see Gur. How's things?
Not too bad, yerself?

The extent to which I know bruce's solo stuff is the tattoo'd millionaire album. The title song was great, and I think that had the all the young dudes cover on it, which was pretty good (and I saw him do it live at the LGS ), but mostly, not that strong material-wise.

Mr_Bounce 06-21-2006 02:35 PM

Well it really depends if you like Bruce's cleaner more operatic-styled vocals than Paul's more energetic 'punkish' vox. For me, Bruce's voice is so much more appealing its like night and day.

Josh 06-21-2006 02:38 PM

whoa, Gur came back :)
why'd the thread get re-named?
(i've been away 2 days)
i like Paul's vox, Bruce's vox, and Blaze's, although i prefer Blaze on his solo stuff, even though he pwnd for maiden.

Lord Abortion 06-21-2006 03:09 PM

Read the various notices, Yoshi, the forum got a bit of tweaking while I was away, as were you.

I like all the songs on Killers, the Title track, MITRM, Drifter and Another life especially.

Stormrider 06-21-2006 03:12 PM

I have yet to hear anything with Paul singing...

Prince of Darkness 06-21-2006 03:25 PM

I haven't heard Dance of Death yet and I'm seeing them live in December. Should I listen to DoD before seeing them live? Will they be playing a lot of those songs?

Josh 06-21-2006 03:26 PM
I haven't heard Dance of Death yet and I'm seeing them live in December. Should I listen to DoD before seeing them live? Will they be playing a lot of those songs?
possibly a couple of them.
listen to the album anyway, it's great :)

Lord Abortion 06-21-2006 03:27 PM

Nah, they'll probably only take one forward, hopefully Paschendale, maybe The title track or The Journeyman.

Get the album anyways though.

Prince of Darkness 06-21-2006 03:30 PM

Is the album similar to Brave New World?

Stormrider 06-21-2006 03:31 PM

Hmm, I noticed that a few Maiden abums were like at a 2 for either 25 or 30$ sale the last few tiems I went to an HMV, which is very good, considering we pay about 25$ an album here. Hopefully DoD, SSOASS and Powerslave are in in that sale when I go there to a buy Maiden albums. Or are those not the ones I should get ?

Lord Abortion 06-21-2006 03:32 PM

If you don't already have Peice of mind, X-Factor and Brave new world, then yep.

rik 06-21-2006 03:36 PM
I have yet to hear anything with Paul singing...
Buy Killers, now.

Stormrider 06-21-2006 03:36 PM

Oh oops, I forgot about X - Factor. I already have a real copy of Peice of Mind and BNW on my computer.

Though, I wasn't really amazed by the X - Factor songs that I have :-/

GurS 06-21-2006 06:03 PM

X-Factor's alright, IMO. First three songs, blood on the world's hands & Unbeliever are good, but otherwise find the album a bit too samey and, well, not very high in adreneline.

For the guy who hasn't heard paul sing, I think paul's vocal style suits the S/T more than it does Killers, so mebbe track that one down? I prefer it to Killers meself.

ashman 06-21-2006 06:33 PM
Not too bad, yerself?
I be good.

I'm kinda in a "I don't know what to make about this new album" rut.

Deth 06-21-2006 07:54 PM

You best be excited.

And, for the record
s/t >>>Killers

Surtr 06-21-2006 09:22 PM

Agreed.

S/T >>> Killers.

Fix'd.

The edge of darkness? I dont really like 'the unbeliever' all that much, it's kind of a dissapointing album closer.

and for the Paul albums:
S/T has stronger material on it, but killers production is %1000000000000000 more better.

So i agree with the S/T>killers
But im a bit biased considering S/T was the first real album i bought.

JamJar 06-22-2006 01:02 AM

I'd say Killers > S/T because I just generally prefer the feel of the album and it has lots of great songs on it. Personally, I find S/T a bit lacking, but each to his own.

Mr_Bounce 06-22-2006 01:34 AM

I don't have a favourite between the two, they're both very good (not my favourites), but are reasonably equal in terms of the quality tracks.

I got Killers and Piece Of Mind for $20

crag 06-22-2006 05:55 AM

Killers and S/T are very similar IMO. I think i prefer Killers more though.

Lord Abortion 06-22-2006 06:06 AM

Yeah, I've kind of gotten into killers alot more.

I would say is was close, Killers hasn't got anything the quality of strange world, but Killers has stronger stuff overall.

rik 06-22-2006 06:10 AM

Killers > S/T. Although the self titled does contain Phantom, which is still one of the best songs Maiden have ever recorded imo.

Surtr 06-22-2006 09:44 AM
Killers > S/T. Although the self titled does contain Phantom, which is still one of the best songs Maiden have ever recorded imo.
So true.

Phantom is seriously amazing..

So..I think that Weekend Warrior may be one of Maiden's most under-rated songs ever. It's a really good song, not so much Maiden sounding, but still a really good song.

crag 06-22-2006 09:59 AM

Weekend Warrior is a good song but, like most of the FotD album, it just doesn't grab me.

Surtr 06-22-2006 10:01 AM

Yeah..FotD isn't much of an album but still..On it Weekend Warrior would have to be probably one of my favorite songs. (Out of like..it and the t/t)

Lord Abortion 06-22-2006 10:08 AM

Yeah, but the TT is crappy compared to the live versions.
