GurS 06-20-2006 12:41 PM

So, new album. Pretty exciting stuff, eh?

Surtr 06-20-2006 06:58 PM

Haha very exciting stuff.

I've been listening to Maiden ever since I've heard the news.

GurS 06-20-2006 07:06 PM

Shame Nicko hasn't racked up a writing credit on this one.

True fact: go to wikipedia, you'll find a page for the upcoming album. I started it :D

ashman 06-21-2006 03:20 AM

Long time no see Gur. How's things?

Anyone got that new Bruce DVD yet? Is it any good?

Ooh rep is back...

inassociationwithdeanlearner 06-21-2006 04:00 AM

Is the solo bruce stuff actually any good?
I've been meaning to hear it for some time but never got round to it, whats it like?

It's very good, it's a little more softer then Maiden. Tyranny of Souls is an awesome album. Also Balls to Picasso is another good album, it pretty much shows you both Spectrums of Bruce. ToS is more serious with a concept theme, while BtP is more of a less serious album.

 i might of guessed balls to picasso would be the less serious of the two.
But thanks for that man, i shall have to check those two out.

Mr_Bounce 06-21-2006 04:33 AM

I'd say Bruce's stuff is a little heavier.. darker, lyrically and musically as well. Good stuff, but not as .. anthemic as Maiden :D

Surtr 06-21-2006 05:20 AM

Haha yeah, woulda' been nice to see Nicko get a lovely writing credit.

rik 06-21-2006 06:31 AM
It's Maiden, how could it not be worth it?
Well, that was the point I was trying to make.

PAJJ 06-21-2006 06:38 AM
Haha yeah, woulda' been nice to see Nicko get a lovely writing credit.
Do you or anyone else know how Maiden give their writing credits, is it just the lyrics or structure, or is it for the whole song, riffs etc, or whatever?

-The Frank 06-21-2006 09:07 AM

^^ lyrics and the song itself (ie.the actual music).

I've been meaning to get it, i just haven't had the time.

I heard an interesting fact from a friend of mine today. Apparently he read somewhere that Benjamin Breeg is about Mr Di'Anno:amaze:

-The Frank 06-21-2006 09:52 AM

^^^
I actually read that to. Its supposed to be a code name for mr.dianno.

But i dont know how well that would fit into a supposed concept album or any album even.

Deth 06-21-2006 10:03 AM

 Maybe he sings a verse or something!

Lord Abortion 06-21-2006 10:13 AM

I'm officially shaking like a shitting dog in anticipation of the new album.
 Maybe he sings a verse or something!
That would be awesome, interesting to see what his voice would be like though nowadays.

-The Frank 06-21-2006 10:28 AM

^^^
His new music video is up on youtube, its called 'the living dead'.
Paul's voice hasnt aged as well as bruce's has though, which is a shame.

ashman 06-21-2006 10:34 AM

Well it's not as serious, still some very dark songs on there, like Gods of War and Tears of a Dragon. Doesn't feel as dark as Tyranny of Soulds though.

rik 06-21-2006 10:35 AM

He seems to have lost something from his voice, though it's still pretty good. Pretty nice song aswell.

-The Frank 06-21-2006 10:37 AM

Yeah, you can definately tell that there is something missing in his voice. It's just all those drugs he did after he got kicked out of maiden, they have finnaly took their toll on Mr.Dianno.

blackthorne 06-21-2006 12:48 PM

i was recently thinking what would iron maiden be like if paul had never left... or if bruce had never left ... or if blaze had never left... i think everyone left at the right time but i always wonder...

Lord Abortion 06-21-2006 12:54 PM

Yeah, I think they did. Bruce leaving was very important at the time, the two albums beforehand were very tired sounding, and they couldn't keep doing the same thing over and over. Blaze joining was the kick up the arse the band needed, and then Bruce coming back was timed fantastically, he got all the solo stuff out of his system, and now he knows he can do that AND Maiden, it's all so much better.

As for Paul, it was much better for the band, he just didn't have the universal appeal of Bruce, the Cockney patter thing might be great at the Ruskin arms, but not headlining major international festivals.
Plus, physically, his voice and stuff wasn't cutting it, he drank to much, smoked too much, and generally wasn't as dedicated as Steve needed.

I do agree with this, but there is no denying Iron Maiden and Killers are fantastic albums. Both in my top 5 Maiden albums.

Lord Abortion 06-21-2006 01:03 PM

Oh yeah, they are, I'm not disputing that.

yeh they are but if paul stayed maiden might have been stuck in a creative rut - kinda held back by him

They are both really good but both are towards the bottom of the list for me.

rik 06-21-2006 01:13 PM
They are both really good but both are towards the bottom of the list for me.
Each to his own, but Killers is second for me, just after Brave New World. This is just at the moment of course, my list is constantly changing.

Deth 06-21-2006 01:16 PM

Killers never grabbed me. Some great songs on it, but the majority just sound average to me.

rik 06-21-2006 01:24 PM

Ah, although my list changes a lot Killers is always up near the top. The only song I don't find that great off it is Prodigal Son.
