I'm not a hxc/emo fag :)

Excursions 07-10-2005 10:28 PM

Yes you are Vince. I only really listen to 80s hardcore these days, actually most music I listen to is 80s or before.

Permanent Solution 07-10-2005 10:33 PM

I know. Vince is worse :(

I don't like 80's hardcore as much, I listen to mostly new music anyways, I like listening to bands I can still see live. :)

PDWAB 07-10-2005 10:41 PM

Just listen to everything, and you'll be fine.

Permanent Solution 07-10-2005 10:47 PM

Except for pop. *shudders*

PDWAB 07-10-2005 10:50 PM

ESPECIALLY pop!

I've actually decided to swear off buying rock CD's for the summer, because I've spent too much time listening to one style of music when there's sooo much else out there.

No sir. Pop is not music, it's orchestrated noise :shifty:

Buy some punk, metal, classical...good stuff. Or you know, maybe pop-punk...fag.

omg and like all music is rooted in noise, so I think you should buy some CDs that dont have noise to branch out some more.

But I'm trying to listen to music!

But yeah, Classical, Jazz, Country, World music.... that's where I'm headed this summer!

Jazz is as related to rock as anything I mentioned.

World music...pfft. The only reason people like that is to pretend they care what minorities do ;)

Country is pop, plain and simple, unless you mean old country, but then I'd say hit up some blugrass instead.

Classical is classy.

That just shows you don't know anything about jazz :p

I really have no idea what the hell I'd be buying for World! Maybe start with Latin and go to Africa?? I hope I like it :(

I'd try to go over the whole spectrum, from Hank Williams to Garth Brooks to whatever else I can perhaps?

What I want to do with classical is whenever I get the CD I'll get the score too so I can follow along with it. It's lots of fun!

Not at all, but Jazz is pretty similar depending on what bands in the rock genres you listen to.

It's terrible stuff. Really, it's good if you're having a theme party, that's about it.

Brooks is pop. Hank Williams is alright, but blugrassers do it better :p

Nerd.

Really? What rock bands are like the old big band swing? Big Bad Voodoo Daddy???

I'll be the judge of that!

I'll be sure to check out bluegrass then too :p

Don't be jealous!

Swing =/= Jazz. BBVD does some good swing though, as do Cherry Poppin' Daddies. There was a good swing revival in the 90's. Lots of progressive rock bands have heavy Jazz influence though.

Let me know when you agree k?

Do that, it's good stuff, as is old country. New country is laughable.

I wouldn't be jealous of that ever. Nerd.

Swing is totally a subgenre of jazz. And I told you I'm not buying any more rock CDs!

Rock is a subgenre of Jazz more or less, it evolved from Jazz at the least. I don't get your logic.

I wasn't saying you should, I'm just saying rock and Jazz are very intertwined. Especially if you're looking at subgenres as being part of the genre.

Rock music is everywhere. That's all anybody talks about, that's all anybody I know listens to. And I'm ready to take a break from it, that's all. There is so much more music out there besides rock and I want to listen to it!

There is more, but there is so much out there you can never discover it all. Not even in one subgenre of it.

I find more than enough variety in what I listen to.

I just figure the more listen to, the more I'll know, and how the hell could that hurt? It's not like I'm ever going to stop listening to music.

No no, I have the same philosophy, but I just don't feel the need to stop listening to what I like to do so.

It's not like I'm going to stop listening to all the rock music I have already, I just feel really ignorant about music in the bigger scheme of things, so I want to branch out.
