Same. My love for it has kept growing and growing.
|
That was one of the albums that really got me hooked on Opeth. It sounded so deep.
|
My Arms, Your Hearse and probably Orhid are growers, you need to listen to them a lot in order to get the beauty they convey.
|
Morningrise too, definitely. It's almost impossible to digest a very small number of very long songs in one listen.
|

Growers are the best albums/ songs out there. I love it when I have to put effort in discovering every aspect of the music and seeing how well it blends together |
I do too, that's why I'm always so disppointed when people say they hate Orchid. :( It's one of the best "grower" albums I've ever heard and it's like people just don't want to put the effort into that one.
|
i really want to put the effort into the Opeth albums im not so familiar with (Orchid, MAYH, SL) but i never seem to get round to it. i know i like the songs, but whenever i feel like listening to Opeth i always go for BwP or Deliverence.
|
I need to listen to Deliverance so badly. :[
I have to wait until I go back home, though. |

That's what happens to me, except i'm quite familiar with MAYH, in fact, it's one of the best for me. Prologue into the April Ethereal intro is one of Opeth's highlights for me. Not to mention it has songs like Epilogue, Demon of The Fall and The Amen Corner. Lovely :) |

I've listened to Orchid a ton and I just don't see it standing up as high as the other releases, barring GR. |
And that's very disappointing for me.
|
You're very disappointing to me.
|
i don't know why you guys don't like GR much, its definatley a high quality album and i feel its up there with the best opeth material...
|
Except that's it not.
|
ill rephrase that, i meant that GR is an awesome album, but opeth has written better stuff, so i don't know why everyone always writes it off.
|
Oh okay.
It's a good album, but it gets kind of boring. |
Oh okay.
It's a good album, but it gets kind of boring.
GR kicks most other album's asses, but when compared to great albums like BWP, Deliverance, and Still Life, it just can't compete. |
The soft songs are somewhat interesting.
They need more of the BWP soft songs feel, though. |
I'm listening to Damnation right now, it's so good :)
|
The soft songs are somewhat interesting.

You know that Face of Melinda it's where it's at.
|
I'm really weird and think that Face of Melinda is the weakest song on the album. :amaze:
|
That is an outright lie! But I'm not sure which song I think is the weakest. Probably Moonlapse Vertigo or White Cluster. Don't get me wrong, they are still fantastic, just not as good as the rest of the songs.
|
weakest song is either godhead's lament or serenity painted death
|
I'm really weird and think that Face of Melinda is the weakest song on the album. :amaze:
My thoughts exactly. As in, the weakest song. |
My Arms, Your Hearse is a grower, you need to listen to it a lot in order to get the beauty it conveys.
Nah. As a whole maybe, but April, Amen Corner, Demon of the Fall, When and Credence are all acessible songs. I loved them the first time I heard them. I agree with Orchid though. It took me a while to get into Forest of October and Under the Weeping Moon.
GR kicks most other album's asses, but when compared to great albums like BWP, Deliverance, and Still Life, it just can't compete.
Deliverance is not as good as GR. And that is saying a lot since I don't like GR much.
I'm really weird and think that Face of Melinda is the weakest song on the album. :amaze:
Serenity Painted Death is. |
Serenity Painted Death is the best song on Still Life.
|
Best = The Moor or Benighted, can't decide
|
I liked Serenity Painted Death the first couple times I heard it, but I got quickly tired of it.
I still like the little solo in the first minute. It makes no melodic sense, but it sounds good. |
The best is Moonlapse Vertigo.
*stirs up discussion finally* |
