If anything, Power Violence is simply true grindcore, rather than the death metal influenced grind of today. I don't think a completely new genre was warranted there.
You don't know shit.

LifeInABox 12-25-2007 12:27 PM

I enjoy my power violence a.k.a. death metal influenced grind, especially deathy, like Insect Warfare.

ZaaR 12-25-2007 03:43 PM

i'm just scraping the surface of grind/power violence etc. the only stuff i've heard that i've been told is powerviolence is spazz, and charles bronson. any suggestions for someone who is interested in the genre? if someone could rep me a good album or 2 that would be appreciated!

Tyler 12-25-2007 03:54 PM

I dont know if I'd say Power Violence was an actual genre in itself but what the **** was he trying to say there? It's separate from "true" grind and from "death/grind", but I dont know.

Eliminator 12-25-2007 04:43 PM

BRA has a hard time making sense.

Valhall 12-25-2007 04:44 PM

Gather what you will, I'm not saying one way or another, but I think it's bunk.

urban dictionary
Powerviolence:

1. Influenced from punk and thrash.
Loud and fast, extremely difficult to understand.

2. A type of punk music that basically plays as fast as humanly possible with lyrics that don't even attempt to be audible or important.

Powerviolence is described in 3 words: "Noise Not Music."

Wikipedia

"Power Violence"
Musically, the majority of bands focus on speed, brevity,
bizarre timing breakdowns, and constant tempo changes,
removing the metallic influence that grindcore is generally
known for in its songwriting and production techniques.
This is meant to contrast with modern grindcore variants
that have become increasingly associated with death metal.
Power violence songs are often very short; it is not
uncommon for some to last less than 30 seconds.

everything2.com

Power violence is the name given to an amorphous subgenre of hardcore punk, which has been and continues to be strenuously debated. In some ways the term serves as little more than a signpost of a specific time and place (to be specific, Southern California in 1991).

It all seems to basically be true grind to me (as oppoesed to modern dm-influenced grind/grindcore).

I'm just saying I don't think it's warranted to be a genuine genre by itself.

Eliminator 12-25-2007 04:46 PM

Yeah but see nobody actually gives a **** but you.
