BludgeonySteve 12-27-2006 02:21 PM

Umm, what? What are you talking about "end of the who" and all?

JohnXDoesn't 12-27-2006 02:23 PM

its the end of the road, RNR :upset:

BludgeonySteve 12-27-2006 02:25 PM

wtf? That doesn't explain crap.

Lunch 12-27-2006 02:26 PM

What does it have to explain? How much more do you really think the Who have in them?

BludgeonySteve 12-27-2006 02:28 PM
What does it have to explain? How much more do you really think the Who have in them?
The "end" could have meant a lot of things.

Lunch 12-27-2006 02:29 PM

Well in this case it probably means that Pete and Roger are too old to continue much past the current tour.

BludgeonySteve 12-27-2006 02:30 PM

I thought it meant that they were dying.

Lunch 12-27-2006 02:32 PM

Well, they are dying...

JohnXDoesn't 12-27-2006 02:37 PM

onoes! :(

Lunch 12-27-2006 02:42 PM

Indeed :(

Seafroggys 12-27-2006 03:49 PM

Long live Rock!

Ephemeral 12-27-2006 08:13 PM

I'm not saying that they are too old or anything, I just feel that after this tour and the album and all they are begining to tire of themselves.

Hell, Pete Townshend hated The Who the moment he joined.

Dragon_Prince 12-29-2006 06:21 AM

Because I know you all got good music tastes here is a question.

Soon I'm going to have an album buying spree. This is what I thought of:

Sigur Ros - Aegotus Bjorn
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia/Lightbulb Sun
Queens Of The Stone Age - Lullabies To Paralyze
King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King

What are more bands/cds I need to have?

robo2448 12-29-2006 07:46 AM

fwqhgads makes a good point. Townsend always hated The Who. The entire time.

I finally got Endless Wire the day after Christmas with gift/exchange money and it's a pretty good cd. Obviously not The Who at their peak but I think it's at least better than Who Are You. And I haven't heard all of Facedances or It's Hard, but I would guess it's probably better than those too.

I'm really pissed I missed The Who on this last tour. Especially since tons of people from my school went, who only know "Teenage Wasteland" and have no idea Tommy even existed:(.

And Dragon Prince, judging from that list, it seems you're pretty interested in that spacey, ambient proggy sound. Check out The Arcade Fire. Funeral is an awesome cd and pretty similar to Sigur Rios. The Flaming Lips are awesome too, but they're psychedelic and trippy than spacey. They're both modern bands. In terms of older prog, you can't go wrong with Crimson, Yes, ELP, Jethro Tull...

wanderer 12-29-2006 12:15 PM

rubbish, Townshend could easily continue to perform in future and I think he will. Daltrey not...

EW is not even as good as IH and compared to FD it's as total joke. Sonfwriting isn't as good as in any Pete solo stuff either, including definately most recent one.

JohnXDoesn't 12-31-2006 12:14 PM

lol wanderer. you know, you seem to know your stuff, so why you say outrageous things like Endless Wire isn't as good as Its Hard, i don't know? And while FD is a good album IMO, its not as good as EW even if EW is not perfect. nothing on FD can even touch Man In A Purple Dress, Mike Post Theme, Marty Robbins, or even 2000 Years, with the exception of You Better You Bet and Another Tricky Day. And the mini opera Wire And Glass is better then Face Dances or in its own way just as good, at least.. And Its Hard? Better then EW? Thats just a joke.

Nothing outrageous about it. Simple fact is that everything on FD songwriting wise is better than anything on EW which couldn't have been worse. Only two songs that showed the usual standard of Pete's songwriting were MPT and GSOMR. His songwriting has truly gone to toilet since (at least according to this record) since Psychoderelict (which had great memorable hooks/emotion/lyrics etc.). One can only pray that he released at least one more album just to show that he still has a good songwriting in him. This effort couldn't have been bigger disappointment regards to songwriting and singinging wise ( they left it too late, Roger has lost "IT" he once had, great (even good) voice is gone). sad but true.

**** those bastards. Y'know, right before the Encore I ran down from my seat and got as close to the floor as I could get. The kid I was standing next to was with his girlfriend, and he only seemed to care about Pinball Wizard, he didn't seem to even remotely care about Amazing Journey, Sparks (!!!!!), or See Me Feel Me (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). ****ing ho.

Danger Bird 01-02-2007 03:27 PM

I thought the who was pretty unimpressive on that tour. I really tried to like them without Moon and Entwistle, but it just seemed like they lacked energy and had to depend on those stupid visuals.

I thought they kicked ***. Were you there? I entered a state of utter enlightment during the Tommy Encore. And no, no drugs whatsoever.

Dude I've been sporting the Who for pretty much my entire time at MX. Where's your resolve?

:p

JohnXDoesn't 01-05-2007 05:08 PM

ok. i see your point. well you did hang in there long. and i would sport an X one. in fact if i win anything in this awards thing i'm gonna ask for a change. if i should be so blessed.

somehow i always make the switch. but i like big avators so have to be crafty or win something. i've wanted an oversized Townshend one from '79 doing a scissor kick. great shot. but i lost it on my otner HD and can't find it again on the internets. but X might be the way to go.

JohnXDoesn't 01-05-2007 05:24 PM

i didn't know about this. maybe you didn't, either:

pretty interesting site for the Who fanatic. only had time to briefly skim, but it looks pretty extensive.

Lunch 01-05-2007 05:29 PM

I didn't, cool site though. Thanks.

Pete & Rachel broadcasted "ITA show" tuesday. Apparently Pete played
'no face no name no number', so he will propably play that song during
Jim Capaldi tribute show.

Maybe they will loop the show later....

wanderer 01-14-2007 03:55 AM

Interesting news. Some ahole bootleg collector in the thewhotour.com posted screencaptures from various never seen The Who video material including Houston 1971 show and just be even bigger ahole made a point telling people that general Who fans will never see it.

thanks for those, wanderer.

do you post at thewhotour.com? if so what is your user name?

Seafroggys 01-14-2007 06:33 PM

I found the coolest site. Its a huge vault of many concerts during the 60s and 70s, mostly from the Fillmore. They have two of the Who at Fillmore East, one from '68 and one from '69. Audio and everything.

Here's the link to Fillmore '69:

The other day I listened to Tommy, Sparks, amazing journey, overture and underture, are just so good ^^

JohnXDoesn't 01-15-2007 05:27 AM

hey guys....

for those who may have missed the thread:

1200 Who photos. Medium sized to small, varying degrees of quality, lots of good stuff for fans.

you build that?

That's like a mix of his Alembic from the 70s and what he played on his last 10 years (forgot what it was called, but it had the kickass Roman Numerals on it)

Thunder Fingers 01-15-2007 12:11 PM

no, a guy named Listerud makes it, to my specs.

And yes, i have asked it to be a mix of the Buzzard and the Spyder.

bump

JohnXDoesn't 01-17-2007 03:56 PM

yeah so how about that Who. next leg of the tour starts soon and if they swing back my way i'll give the old men another shot.

in other news check a few posts above for 1200 Who photos and i'll be posting other Who related stuff in the days to come :)

Seafroggys 01-17-2007 04:00 PM

my favorite pic was the one of John's bass collection.

Thunder Fingers 01-20-2007 02:06 AM

Hmm.

Biamping sounds a hell alot of better on CD than DVD..

now Entwistle actually have some bass at Live at royal albert hall, you can weakly hear that anoying "Treble Syntetic fuzz" but the bass overpowers it so it actually sounds good :p On the DVD you mainly hear the fuzz.
