Diatonic Dissonance™ 04-30-2006 04:32 AM

Trea.. I need some help with my song. I'd really appreciate it if you went on MSN just for a few minutes.

Trigger_003 05-01-2006 04:01 AM

Ahhh, sorry, I didn't see your post last night... what are/were you needing help with?

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-01-2006 04:21 AM

Just some advice.. I got some from a composition major, but I'd appreciate yours too.

kevbud187 05-01-2006 11:31 PM

hey gav might want to be friendly with this dude.

http://myspace.com/davidludwig

hes only like a comp professor at Curtis Institute. No big deal or anything. Only the most selective music college in the world. *shrug*

Trigger_003 05-02-2006 01:05 AM

Haha, Ludwig - made me think of Lunig for some reason... strange persons.

I'll see what I can do - I'll just finish off some work for school coz they're piling on the SACs right about now.

Woot, check out my leet piano playing skillz:

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-02-2006 01:34 AM

Cheers Kev and plz do Trea.

Aes820 05-02-2006 04:19 AM

There's actually some very musically talented kids on these forums.
Well done to 'em all. I'm impressed.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-02-2006 04:49 AM

Hey Trea tell me what you think about my description of a Minuet and Trio movement:

"The minuet and trio movement is generally the third movement of a four movement sonata. The form of said movement is M-T-M where M represents the minuet and T the trio. Of course when the reprise occurs to the minuet, it is given a different name; "da capo". Both the minuet and trio are in binary form so the movement can be represented by AB-CD-EF(AB). The minuet is a French dance in simple triple time with a moderate to slow tempo and is played gracefully and without an anacrusis. The trio is generally for three voices (such as a bassoon and two clarients). In G major, I would expect the first minuet to be in G, and the trio to be in either the dominant, subdominant, parallel or relative minor (that is, D major, C major, G minor or E minor) and then the da capo will retun to G major."

jurialmunkey 05-07-2006 06:07 AM

Ok. So I don't normally lurk in here much, but recently I have been hanging out trying to answer people's recording questions etc. etc. Which I hope has been of some help. I've studied Music Business and a Diploma of Music Industry Technical Production (Sound Recording/Live) at Technical College (North Sydney TAFE).

Blah Blah Blah...

I guess the point I'm trying to make is just to introduce myself. I hope I don't sound too pretentious or up-myself or anything.

I was just wondering, who are the other people in here who have some knowledge in Sound Recording/Production??

Aes820 05-09-2006 03:53 PM

I finished work at 1:30am this morning after a 17 hour day.
And here I am back, bright and early, at 7:40am.

Cool.

Yeah, I convinced the rest of the band to lure the vocalist into the sewer and murder him because he's ginger and ginger people are ****ing disgusting.

Elizabeth 05-10-2006 02:59 PM

Hi everyone, my name is Elizabeth and I am 15-years-old now. I live in Finland and I loooove to sing the most. I also have a bass, but I'm not so good at playing it. I'm pretty much a starter with it. ;)

My absolute #1 idol is Michael Jackson. If I would tell you why, this post wuldn't have an end, but I can say that he is just and amasing performer, songwriter and singer. *LOVE HIM!* I also like Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Celine Dion to mention some.

My ultimate dream is to become a famous singer in the US someday. I'm not that sure if it will ever happen, but hey, you can dream, right? ;D But I am really, I will not be satisfied or happy of my life, if I won't reach my goal. I've been wanting this since I can only remember.

That's all I can say right now, hope I'll get many good tips about singing and maybe also about playing the bass here. :)

Jhiggy 05-12-2006 09:05 PM

Hey I'm J I'm new to this I'm 15 and I play Acoustic, Bass, Electric (6 string). I'm looking for members for a band I'm startin and when I say members I mean a drummer. O and I play baritone.

"Band Nerds" kinda of a sucky name huh

Jhiggy 05-12-2006 10:59 PM

What are you in choir or something?

Trigger_003 05-13-2006 09:36 PM

You might've wanted to add that the trio is usually gentler in contrast to the M's, but yea... :)
/LATE! reply

Hey Gav, I have a possible proposition for you. We're playing a piece called the Warsaw Concerto - dunno if you know it - during our annual concert (end of July) and it has a solo piano part. So Richard was asking if we knew anyone. He was pretty much implying he wanted a uni player or something, but hey, you might be good enough, I have no idea! It's about a grade 8 or so piece...
You won't get payed or anything, but I'm just seeing if you think it's possible and if you're even interested. Other people have contacts as well so it's no biggy if you can't - just thought it'd be cool.

Woah Chris, marathon day you had back there.

Haha, I'm ashamed. The Blues (AFL, guys, AFL!) hired our band to play at some of their matches as a direct result of our Davis Cup gig. Why them!? :p
Nah, it's really quite awesome. The first match we play at is the Western Bulldogs v. Carlton match (16th June I think) so every time we're not playing the Carlton club song or whatever I'll be barracking for the opposition :grin!:

G'day to all the new kids :).

Log S. 05-13-2006 11:25 PM

I make music under the pseudonym Log S.
Don't know what my music would be categorized as, but you can hear it here:
http://www.log-s.tk

anyway, I'm currently influenced by Velvet Underground, The Smiths, Pulp, Faust, Gorillaz, and The Fall, so if you like any of those you may like some of my tracks.

Nice site, by the way.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-14-2006 02:08 AM

Haha, yeah look Trea.

I just got my hands on a copy of Grieg's Warsaw Concerto, and it's pretty nuts.

Could you get me sheet music and I'll give it a look and see?

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-14-2006 02:16 AM

Wait.. are you talking about the Addinsell one? I have that one.

Um.. yeah, give me some sheet music. Those arps are pretty intense so I'll have to have a look.

Trigger_003 05-14-2006 02:26 AM

Lol, I know it's crazy, that's why I'm saying it's fine if you can't (and probably why they were asking for a uni student to do it :p).

I can't remember whos it was though, coz we just sight read it yesterday... and I was busy thinking about how awesome New World's sounding >_<.
Anyway, I'll talk to someone tomorrow and see if I can get a copy for you.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-14-2006 02:32 AM

Alright I might be getting a copy of it on Tuesday but I'd appreciate it if you looked anyway!

Ya know.. this would be a lot easier if you just went on MSN. You could convince the rentals that it's school related.

Trigger_003 05-14-2006 05:34 AM

Truth. But hey, I doubt you've got a computer in the shower right now, so... :p

I_was_god 05-14-2006 08:02 AM

Hey, my name is Dave I live in Ireland, and Im 15.
I play guitar, drums and bass and I work in a studio doing Producing and Engineering. Its a fun but hard and time consueming job, worth it in the end tho!

Im in a band called Heresy (I post music up here but its not heresy as we are recording our album) We have interests SpineFarm records who have Children Of Bodom on their team so we are considering it....So thats basically my story!

Trigger_003 05-14-2006 04:38 PM

Hey, that's awesome. Nice to meet you :)

Chris, would it be possible to temp. sticky the two song-making challenge polls for last month's challenge? We need them both and one could easily get lost on another page or something. Just until the votes are in, if that's okay.

Aes820 05-14-2006 05:20 PM

No problems.
Let me know when they are due for an un-stick.
:)

Trigger_003 05-15-2006 12:34 AM

/grateful
Thanks :)

Oh 'n Gav, Derek seems to think that it's the Addinsell one. I know it's not the Grieg one anyway.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-15-2006 04:07 AM

Hahaha, the Grieg one doesn't exist.

It's the Addinsell one (that is.. the only one :p).

Trigger_003 05-15-2006 04:31 PM

:upset:

Haha, me with my leet knowledge of classical  :thumb:

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-15-2006 10:33 PM

My bad for saying it was Grieg in the first place.

Trigger_003 05-16-2006 01:55 AM

Oh I thought you were stuffing me round :p.

I told him you had a copy, but I wasn't sure whether it'd be the same as our version or not. He said it's the original so it should be.
What grade are you now days, 7 or 8?

What's going on with everyone these days?

I played a solo last night and everyone loved it. They kept going on about it today. The principal (who's a muso) found it hard to believe that I didn't have a professional model trombone ("I didn't think anyone could get such a great tone out of a student model!"). He said it's either one of the most beautiful pieces or playing he's heard in ages.
Hehe.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-16-2006 02:12 AM

I don't have a copy though? :-/

I'm not grading.. but I play pieces that are well above grade 8 standard.

Trigger_003 05-16-2006 04:06 PM

O ok soz, "Wait.. are you talking about the Addinsell one? I have that one." threw me off there, haha.

Aes820 05-16-2006 07:21 PM

At the moment I'm preparing some updates to that youthweek website. We'll be putting up some of the talent comp entries.
Some of them are really good.

There's one acoustic song by a chick called Morgan...
Wow, is all I can say.
And that's just from seeing her bio pic.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 05-17-2006 01:16 AM
O ok soz, "Wait.. are you talking about the Addinsell one? I have that one." threw me off there, haha.
Oh right.. I meant I have the piece.

Aes820 05-22-2006 01:04 AM

On that youthweek website that I worked on we set up this online voting thing for the talent comps. You can pick your favourite entry and vote for it, the entry with the most votes wins the people's choice awards.
I'm sure you get the idea.

Anyhoo. We log IP addresses, so we can weed out multiple votes for the one entry. Only one vote per IP address per competition will be counted.

It's kind of amusing looking at the output file for this voting form and see how some people have set there for a good 10 mintues or so voting for their entry over and over.
Click on vote, back button, vote, back button, vote, back button, etc etc.
Seems that some people are determined to win, shame only one of those votes will actually count.

Trigger_003 05-23-2006 01:44 AM
There's one acoustic song by a chick called Morgan...

Orly? ;)

Haha, it's classic how people vote like that eh? And if they don't win, they wonder how they couldn't possibly have won.
Have you got password recovery questions on any of your sites? Some of those are absolutely classic.

I might check out some of those youthweek entries actually... I'm interested in how it all turned out. I'm sure that site will get a lot more votes than our little composition challenge here.

Aes820 05-23-2006 03:20 AM

Some of the 18-25 RockIT entries are bloody brilliant.

Unholy Quesadilla 05-23-2006 07:47 PM

Hello, my name is Ben, new to this forum. I play guitar, piano, drums, and I play bass like how a guitar guy would play bass. But I'm not good at any of the instruments. I've decided to focus on guitar so I could at least get somewhere with it.

Not in a band at this point. I find it pretty difficult to find the right people for band-mates. So right now I'm just doing stuff on my own, or collaborate with some friends on a per project basis. I'm trying to learn how to write songs, so far my projects have been just recording cover songs.

Trigger_003 05-25-2006 12:15 AM

G'day, nice to meet you. I'm Trea :).

In case you haven't stumbled across it yet, if you need any help with guitar, there's a beginner's question section in the guitar forum where you can get some advice from:
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=60
The people there are generally pretty helpful.
