hes only starting out on the slap but it sounds pretty good. The only hard part is going to be putting it to drums and guitar, for we dont know what slap-bass sounds good with.
The Aftermath album from Dystopia is so sick..haha. |
I know exactly what you mean about where to put slap bass parts. I have NO idea where to put that kind of stuff.
We are getting a similar show in May. I'm definately gonna try to go.
Disfear, Phobia, 9 Shocks Terror, Strong Intention, Rumpelstiliskin Grinder I like all of the bands and I love Phobia, Disfear, and 9 Shocks Terror. I have heard that Strong Intention is horrible live, though.
That show is gonna rule. I haven't heard Strong Intention, but everyone says they suck. I guess i'll find out when I see them. |
Subvert, sweet avatar, Haymaker kicks so much a'ss.
Dude, thanks. Haymaker is soooo badass. |
I want to see them, the videos I saw were insane.
|
My friends all think Haymaker sucks. I think they r00l like nobody's business.

pfft, dude doesn't like em cause they wouldn't like him. |

I have heard their recordings, and I don't get why everyone hates them. Although, I have heard they are terrible live and I have heard that their lead singer (Zac) is a huge dick. |
Has anyone heard of Second Opinion? They're playing with a friends band (Brutal Assault) tonight. Apparently, they're on 625 Thrashcore. They're on a California thrash comp. I have, what I've heard is pretty good.
|
pfft, dude doesn't like em cause they wouldn't like him.
Hahahaha, too true man, too true. |
If they are on 625 Thrash, they are probably really good.

I stand firmly behind the phrase "Slap Bass Sucks." Okay, it doesn't really, but I'm just not a fan really. I also don't really like Sludge, yet I like Dystopia. When it comes to playing bass, I prefer to play really fast, or if I slow it down, do something really melodic along the lines of ska and blues.
As far as where to put it (the slap parts), use them tastefully. Don't overdo them because it will become cliche, but use it in an intro or a solo or breakdown once, or do a song that uses them in a verse or two, and keep it very tasteful. At least, that is what impresses me. |
Some of the kids I know that do slap bass really good totally over use it. They are total c'ock rockers.
|
yeah... I dont think we'll over use it...just for like solos every onece and a while. Hes pretty fast, and hes got a badd *** effects pedel hes using (hopefully if our vocalsist lets him)
|
Yeah, they were real good. All the bands that played tonight were real good: Brutal Assault, Zdeth, All Catatonic And Like, Max Ward, Asshole Assassination Squad, and Second Opinion. Only thing: during one of the bands' sets, a guy flew on top of the pit and fell down on me, catching my ear and ripping my guage out. Now, my guage is shaped like and H, with the middle part being in my ear, the actual size of the hole. The two sides are roughly twice the size of the actual hole; I have to unscrew one side to take it in or out. Now, the double-sized part ripped through my ear. It ripped the skin bad, almost ripping all the way through the bottom of my ear. God damn that hurts. However, the show was fantastic. I made friends with the guys from Max Ward and Second Opinion, and because of it, I got a Second Opinion shirt for only 6 bucks, I got a free No Noize 7" and a free ACxDC 7", the vocalist of my band is gonna do some vocals for Max Ward that's gonna show up on their split with the real guy Max Ward, and me and my drummer Chris were made honorary members of the huge, famous crew Demon Crew by the man who made it himself. All in all, an insane night.
In case you wanna check out any of the bands: Second Opinion http://www.myspace.com/suburbangangstaz Asshole Assassination Squad http://www.myspace.com/aas Max Ward http://www.myspace.com/maxwardisgod All Catatonic, And Like http://www.myspace.com/allcatatonicandlike Zdeth http://www.myspace.com/zdeth Brutal Assault ...Needs to record. |
Second Opinion is really good. REALLY REALLY good. Wow.
|
Slap bass sounds really good when a bassist knows when to do it. If you use it in every song and stuff, it'll get old real fast.
|
hahahaha, MAX WARD!
those dudes rule. as does Max Ward, the man, on that note, but yeah, they need to get their asses to TX. as do all of them DemonxCrew bands. |
as do all of them DemonxCrew bands.
ACxDC!!!! |
ACxDC!!!!
Demon Crew? Whaaaaaaat?
|
I can do slap bass ok, not super good. I'm gonna put it in one of my thrash/PV band's songs, but like real quick. Drums will stop, I'll have a real quick slap-pop, and we'll go immediately into, well, thrash.
|
Demon Crew, foo!
Demon Crew Criteria for Membership 1. You know our history: If you dont bother to know our "history" then dont bother to claim us. We started as a joke crew in response to the tough guy crews that overrun "hardcore" and other forms of punk as well as in response to the scenester coke heads that somehow took over our scene. It happened after too many frustrated conversations in which we told stories of seeing/ experiencing ****ed up **** happening at shows and no one saying **** about it. It happened as a result of seeing the apathy we were surrounded by and being sickened by it. So we decided to start a "crew" to put all other crews to shame since we would actually work to get ourselves and the scene surrounding us out of the ****hole its been in. Its basis is skating, tagging, undeground extreme music, creativity, friendship, protection. 2. You rep it: Meaning you are a representative of all members involved so ****ing act like it. Have some pride. Dont drag our name on the floor. Dont embarass us. If youre in a band then rep our ****. No matter what "level" you are at you have to know our sign. You have to rep us publicly (internet as well). And if you go to a show you do not just stay in the back and get drunk, you are up front and you care about the music. If you know how you can tag us up. 3. You respect it: This is a family that we choose to be in. You help each other out. YOU DO NOT HELP DESTROY EACH OTHER and you sure as **** do not sit back and watch someone destroy themselves. Grow the **** up and get over the goddamned wasted lifestyle of getting ****ed up and regretting what you did the past day. If you want some respect then RESPECT YOURSELF. You dont create unnecessary drama. You dont slander us or our members but you call us on our ****. 4. You expose it: You talk about it to people. You post it up everytime an event takes place. You rep it publicly and on the internet. You set shows up. You hook shows up. You take on projects that help get us attention. 5. You better it: You learn from on another (ex: tagging, skating, playing instruments, running a label, setting up a show, etc). You teach on another. You appreciate what is given to you by giving back. You create and dont just tag along for the ride. You criticize constructively and offer ideas.
The guy who made us members was the dude from ACxDC, who's in Max Ward. |

Yeah dude, you know what's up. |
That sounds like the best crew ever.
|
Sounds cool, but is the dude saying not getting fucked up at all?
|
Sounds cool, but is the dude saying not getting fucked up at all?
Yeah, that's the only part I can't agree with. I like weed to much to give it up! |
No, actually, he said you don't have to be edge to be in it. You just don't have to force it anyone, keep it to yourself, and be responsible with it.
|
Oh, word. I was gonna say...
|
Andy, the guy who got y'all in, was it Sergio, by any chance, just curious.
|
it sounds like somthing id like to be a part of....one day.
|
this has no real relevanec to the thread, but the song DIG by that metal band(im not sure who it is though) They use the slap bass and its really annoying.
|
So, you can smoke weed and drink and still be in the crew?
|
Mudvayne. I think that's actually a pretty good song.
|
God (the only God) told me drugs are for weaklings.
|
Hahahaha.
|
Sounds too exclusive for me. I'd rather be a loner.
|
I'm actually more of a loner too. Being in a huge crew isn't really me.
|
Loner is the way to go.
