Sun Ra - The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra. Good introduction to his works and by that I mean it's completely anarchic and jarring.
Haven't heard this, but I admire (more than I really enjoy) his work on Atlantis and Nuclear War. Perhaps I'll give it a listen.

wheelz 12-17-2004 09:02 PM

i've also been listening to these arms are snakes latest album lately... and i have tangy to thank for introducing me to them.

that's what reminded me about this place... so i came back.

hi everyone.

Tangy zizzle 12-17-2004 09:16 PM

No worries wheelz, you're a fine man/woman/being. Oxeneers is really good isn't it!

cedga 12-17-2004 11:48 PM

i heard Johnny Cashs version of NIN's "Hurt" last night on Max's My top 11 (Tom and Neil Finn were on). That songs pretty emtoinal and very easy to play aswell.

I bought pearl jams "rearviewmirror" last week and have been replaying betterman, alive and even flow over and over again. ill get around to the rest of the songs next week
They just came out with a 3 disc (2 CDs, 1 DVD) set of Mark Sandman stuff he did outside of his work with Morphine. It is hopefully ending up under my Christmas tree.
like i'm loving the lack of guitar and the really bluesy feeling their songs seem to represent. its really what ive been looking for during these cold winter nights. do you know what his stuff sounded like outside of morphine yet, cause his voice is wonderfully refreshing and unique.

br3ad_man 12-18-2004 02:15 AM

QOTSA, Blink 182 and Flaming Lips

Bartender 12-18-2004 05:28 AM
Good work.

Solid Gold is better though.
Maybe so, but all I've heard so far is from Entertainment!, so that's what I'll be looking for.

Happymeal 12-18-2004 08:15 AM

Pele are awesome.

He was in a band with Morphine's drummer in the 80s. Haven't heard them , but according to Nacho they're pretty good. Maybe I'll ask my old english teacher if he has any of their CDs, because he was the one that got me into Morphine in the first place.

As for newer Mark Sandman solo stuff, no I haven't heard it. I read that he would record a lot a lot a lot, and then only give the CDs to his group of friends. I believe some of those recordings are what is finally surfacing with this boxed set.

Tomahawk 12-18-2004 10:57 AM

I'm digging the Polyphonic Spree right now. I can't wait to see these dudes live, it'll be fucking insane.

I saw a Damien Rice concert of some sort on tv last night. I'd never heard anything from him before and I was really impressed. I was quite surprised by the emotion and intensity even though people have talked about him on here forever.

Trans Am and Mastodon

Twinemen is the band he used to be (I do believe)... or maybe it was the other Morphine members. Good band anyhow.

i bought Yes today, so far its an instant hit, usually some albums take a few listens for me.

Tangy zizzle 12-19-2004 01:42 AM

Heh, I have that on Casette... it's pretty tired now, I thrash it in the car.

indy_undy 12-19-2004 05:03 AM

Saw them at Leeds 2003 headlining the Radio 1 tent. Band of the weekend, definitely.

The Ashtray Girl 12-19-2004 08:39 AM

100th page... woah...

I'm listening to ridiculous amounts of Muse right now, in preparation for the concert tonight. :D

Iai 12-19-2004 08:41 AM

Ashtray, do me a favour please. Keep an eye out for the dumbest, most out-of-place t-shirt you can see. I have a running tally of these, including Nelly Furtado at Placebo, Napalm Death at InMe, and Bros at AC/DC.

The Ashtray Girl 12-19-2004 08:43 AM

Omg, you do that too?! Hours of entertainment, I always find...

Iai 12-19-2004 08:44 AM

Haha! What's your best one?

The Ashtray Girl 12-19-2004 08:55 AM

I've never seen anything deeply weird, only slightly odd things like The Strokes at Avenged Sevenfold and stuff. I just count all unrelated band t-shirts, as I think it's a bit odd.

Iai 12-19-2004 08:56 AM

I just remembered Iced Earth at Polyphonic Spree. I let that one slide, though, since it was a festival.

Tomahawk 12-19-2004 08:57 AM

I was wearing a Dandy Warhols t-shirt when I saw Metallica.

Iai 12-19-2004 08:59 AM

I'm pretty sure I've done some bad ones. I think I was wearing something really bad when I went to see Counting Crows. Tool, maybe? I used to love them back then before the fanboys ruined it for me.
Magazine's pretty great.
I've had "Real Life," which I love, for a few weeks. Got "The Correct Use of Soap" yesterday, and I like it even better.

Thanks WRM.
