well, if your a hard hitter, finding that fast punchy crash (and have it survive) is no easy task.

maybe your best bet would be an A Custom Projection Crash

the big rider? a 20" AA Medium crash is right up your alley....maybe even an AA Crash/ride. those things are FULL sounding

the main 2 though? how about 17" and 19" HHX Stage Crashes?

Chris 09-15-2005 07:22 AM

Im looking for a ride that will go well with 15'' New Beat hats.
I would like it to be quite pingy, little or no wash, and a nice bell. And bigger then 20'', so about 21'' or 22''.
Im thinking about either a 22'' A custom ping ride, or a 22'' A ping ride. Will either of these suit what im going for?

Also, im looking at the A custom crash's, but I have read (off musicans freind) that they are some what thin, and are prone to breaking. Is this true?(im not a big hitter at all).

bobby__johnny 09-15-2005 07:30 AM

if you arent a hard hitter, dont worry

as for the ride, 21" HH Raw-bell Dry Ride

The only place that is local to me that sells that ride is wembely, so it looks like im off to there. The sound clip's on the sabian site sounds really nice, im going to have a look into that then.

Do you think this set up will go?
15'' New Beat Hats,
21'' HH Raw-bell Dry Ride,
17'' A Custom Crash
18'' A Custom Crash
18'' UFIP Tigar China (I have fallen in love with this)

an_original_name 09-15-2005 08:11 AM

^^^ maybe change the 17" A custom to a 16". there wont be a huge difference in sound between the 17" and 18". either that or you could go for 17" and 19".

other than that it looks good.

bobby__johnny 09-15-2005 05:03 PM

i'm liking the idea of 17/19

sounds good to me

DaleCrover1 09-18-2005 12:17 AM

I like the idea of HHX Stage crashes. How thick are they? Medium??

I'd like to have all my cymbals from one brand if possible. It's not 100% necessary, but if I can do it that way for some reason I'd feel better. Dunno why, I'm just wierd like that.

I was scrolling thru the Sabian pages on Musicians Friend, found some stuff that looked good.

I was thinking, just as ideas:

AAX Stage hats, HHX Stage Crashes (as suggested), HHX power ride, either HHX or AA-Metal X china, and either AA or AAX splashes.

I looked thru some crash-rides for the big crash I wanna ride on alot. I couldn't find any AA Crash-Rides for some reason. However, I did find an HH-Series crash ride that looked good:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=perc/search/detail/base_pid/441330/

Would that project enough for loud music?? What kinda of sustain do crash-rides have?? I'd like the groove to be decipherable if I'm riding heavy on it. There's nothing I hate worse than riding on a crash and listening back and hearing nothing but a big clangy high-pitched roar.

I was also thinking of an AAX Stage crash (17") to compliment the two HHX crashes. They (HHX) come in sizes 16" and 18" (atleast on musicisnas friend they do.)

Am I on the right track??

Also, I know there's differences... but basically in terms of Zildjian and Sabian, does it go: A:AA; A-Custom:AAX; K:HH for the most part?? What would the Sabian equivalent to the Z series be??

Thanks for all the ideas guys. All your feedback and ideas are really helping me!!

If your looking for some good prices use Thomann.de. They are the cheapest place to buy equiptment
I like the idea of HHX Stage crashes. How thick are they? Medium??
they are Mediums. great cymbals.

skadrummer411 09-18-2005 11:47 AM

Okay, i've been lookinf into istanbul cymbals lately and i've fallen in love with the sound of the signature crash. But the problem is i've only one site to buy it from and they don't have very good prices. So I was wondering what other crash might have the same sound, mainly the dark raw tone, but I don't really want it to be trashy. So I did find the onurhan crash that, by description, sounded like it would be similar. Any suggestions would be great, and they don't have to be istanbul's.

Im looking for something good to go with at Paiste Signature Full Crash. Suggestions?

Ethan. 09-18-2005 11:56 AM

Full Crashes are great... You looking for a different crash? Let us know what sound you want. Paiste says all their cymbals are "sonically matched"; but Sabian has "sonically matched" groups.

Zerosk8 09-18-2005 02:01 PM

I am looking for a new or used, dark, heavy crash. I want it to sound like my old HHXtreme crash. Help please?

bobby__johnny 09-18-2005 03:18 PM

well, ideally if you want something to sound like your old HHXtreme crash, then i highly advise buying an HHXtreme crash
Im looking for something good to go with at Paiste Signature Full Crash. Suggestions?
either a 2002 Crash, or another Full Crash in a different size

I feel stupid qouting myself but I would really like some help.

Murd_666 09-18-2005 04:16 PM

Okay I'm looking into a nice versitile set up and I'm planning ahead so I'm wondering what would be some good cymbals.

Hihats- I want some that sound nice at low volmes and at very loud ones to, something that has a really nice open sound

Crashes- I want 4, two main and two other, for the main ones I would like one nice and bright for more metal and rock situations, but not really the kind that u have to wham on them to get them to sound right, something more touch sensitive, for the second one something darker , I thinking the HHXplosion cause u barely have to hit it to make a sound, for my other ones something with a faster decay for quick accents and stuff, one bright and one dark.

ride- I want two first one , I want it to be dark, even amount of ping and wash, i want the bell to have a really nice ping but something thats not overwhelming, the secong one I want one with more wash and a brighter bell

so any suggestions

Tim 09-18-2005 04:57 PM

for crashes you could try someting like AAXplosions.

KWG 09-18-2005 07:29 PM

2002 rides are great, especially the bigger ones; the bell is small on them and the bigger ones have a bigger bell. 2002 is the classic rock cymbal line. John Bonham used a 24" 2002 Ride. They were called Giant Beats then I think

Iskandar 09-19-2005 03:57 PM

Giant Beats were hihats, I believe.

You probably won't want that Studio Crash. It's a bit small and thin.

bobby__johnny 09-19-2005 05:03 PM

not nessessairly....it could be used for any low volume playing

Iskandar 09-19-2005 07:27 PM

He plays rock, though. Not the heaviest of rock, but still: the Studio Crash is meant for low-volume recording, is it not?

bobby__johnny 09-19-2005 09:35 PM

when you see Studio on a Sabian cymbal, they refer to the weight. a Studio model is a Thin weight....

i beleive at one time, Cradle of Filths drummer was rocking a few AAX Dark Crashes....which are thin

its all in technique and use.

DaleCrover1 09-19-2005 09:41 PM

Would an HH Crash/Ride be strong and loud enough for rock music??
