The into feedback is a pain the the back side, since you get Dannys drum patterns moulding in with the intial feedback sound. I tend to get standard feedback (close to the amp, let it build, etc) while string scraping, and it produces a similar type of sound if done right, its trial and error. Most of the partslike that in the song just requires some creative uses of scrapes and muting to get it right.
The part i could never get was the kick in to the distortion section after the mellow cleaner part near the end, before maynard sings 'Ill keep digging...' I could never get it sounding right Since im still stuck with a crappy marshall MG30DFX amp, im still lmited with what i can do. |
Okay, I'll have to try it once I get my other amps back.
I guess those tabs could've been accurate after all, just not the technique they described. I'll try your way, should get something pretty close after a little practice. |
i should start learning to play some tool.... i tried it once and it was harder than it sounded... and plus the fact that i wasnt really commiting to learning it didnt help either..... but one of these days ill do it... one of these days....
and to AJIG for the patient, do you use a regular wah pedal or a multi effect pedal? because i have a RP200 Multi Effect pedal and i was just wondering if i could do it with that because to me my pedal sounds different from the other wah pedals ive used, but maybe its just me |
I only use a regular wah at the moment, I've had it for 2 weeks now, and im still getting to grasps with it. SO I cant offer much help on that area, since im still a wah n00b.
If you post that question in the guitar forum, it more than likely that 3074326 will have some helpful advice for you, since he probably is the most knoweldgable Tool - related guitarist on here |
Can't forget RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. < They kick as.sssss... Audioslave kicks major *** too, with almost the same RAGE people, cept 2 guys from Sound Garden...I HIGHLY recommend Audioslave if you like RATM, or even if you dont
I love RATM. Audioslave is practically the same line-up except Zack de la Rocha left and was replaced by Chris Cornell of soundgarden. thats the only difference between the members. I would recommend Audioslave but RATM and Audioslave are not at all the same band and the sound very different so i dont think liking Rage effects that at all. |

Get comfortable with your crybaby. assumming you know the tab, when you hit the first 2 you start with the wah up(bass). you fairly quickly, not too fast, press it all the way down then straight back up. that will create the signiture sound. do that on all of the notes until the final repeat. you just have to feel it. the rest is all just usual tool. hopefully that helps. |
your wah should work.
|
is it worth buyin the cry baby for bass?
|
The beginning section of that song is bass wah, i've seen videos and its always Justin doing it live. Then of course, Dany adds other effects over it.
The wah part that I struggle with is the riff AJ plays while MJK is singing 'Must keep reminding myself of this'. When he shifts up an octave, AJ activates the wah, but the tone he produces is hard to reproduce with the simple wah I have. |
Hey, guys...I've been wanting to listen to Tool for the longest time, and my friend lent me his Tool CDs (he's got them all, including Salival) at my High School lock-in (it was as lame as it sounds) and I never got the chance to listen to them...so, I was wondering, which album should I start listening to to really start getting into Tool? Thnx!

(if I hear one more question about what album/song...........)
For the last time, ill be nice. Buyin in this order Aenima - all forms of tool Lateralus - latest and more trippy Opiate - for true fans and those who like heavier Undertow - An album that takes some work to understand really need this type of thing put on the first page |
Thanks...sorry if I annoyed anyone, I was just wondering which album to get into first, again I apologize.

You start with their best, then go back to their earlier, then see what they're like today, and finally see where it all began. I don't really think it matters too much though, they're all great cds. |
The difference between that and pop music is that pop focuses, not on the creativity and evolving ingenuity of their music, but on how the music will affect a certain image or trend. These people are by no means bad; they just aren't in it to revolutionize music. Instead, they sensationalize one part of the band (usually the singer) in order to place a marketable image on the music. I can only describe Tool's music as art. Not only does it contain a variety emotion on several levels, but many songs also have a layered meaning that can be related to almost anything in your life at any time. However, emotion is not enough. There are plenty of emotion-loaded bands today, even some who reject marketable image. A good example would be death metal/ hardcore bands who convey the same emotion through the same dischordant melody again and again. Tool has something else; the music. Admittedly on the shallowest level, the members of Tool are respected and admired among their peers, especially Maynard and Danny. Listen to the flow of many of their songs; you can feel tension, release, energy, on at least four levels. There's alot I've missed, but just pull out Tool and compare it to Yellowcard or Briteny Spears, you'll get my meaning.
I think here the perfect time to share one of my favourite quotes...i only wish I could remember who wrote it: "good entertainment draws you outside of youselfa nd your situation. Good art illuminates what's inside us" i think there's a place for both...as MJK mentioned in an Aussie interveiw about tools cult status and lack of chart success: "i think there should be one chart for products, and one for musicians - the product chart would have britney and n*sync competeing the ford, coke, mcdonalds and pepsi. the music chart would only have those who are concerned with music." and also: has anyone noticed that APC was swelled in ranks again, now with 9 members on the DVD.... including tim alexander (primus??) and tim doesn't seem to have acutally played on anything at all... I really like the idea of APC becoming a collective, more a project based entity than the traditional 'album then tour' type beast... |

I must have read a bad tab. as for the must keep reminding... riff I have no problems making it sound good with just fuzz. a few amp adjustments and it sounds good to me. |

Yeah, its a low level distortion setting palm muted for the first riff. The tab i use comes off the tool tab site (deadohiosky has the link, I can never remeber/havent bookmarked it.) I agree, it can sound good without wah, but to get the full effect (which is hard to hear on the CD, unless pushed towards ear bleed volumes) wah is needed. Though im satisfied with just playing without wah. Oh, and on an AJ note, some sweet pics of his equipment at this link http://www.disciplineglobalmobile.com/diary/diary-RobertFripp.shtml It also has some word on the recording process so far |

Thanks
Ill give it a go, not sure how big they are. I've got two great ones that ill send to others if it works, and the rest are ok (odd bad camera bits) |
Anyone playing tool should get their tabs from Tool Tabs . They are very accurate. But I'm sad to say that the site is no longer up. Last time I tried to go to it, it didn't work. Thank God I have all the tabs on my comp. At the site they let you download their tab archives. Also the tabber for Adam's riffs, is Nolan Venhola I think, and he/she has posted the tabs at here at Mx also. So look for that name, if th site isnt up.

They did a few APC tabs too, but most were in Guitar Pro 3 format.
The tool ones on there were great, so detailed. Although i didnt like the Jerk Off tab on their (anyone needs them, ill email em to ya, better than most of the Mx tabs ones) |
