:upset: serious? ****.............this has not been a good 6 months for music, dimebag, now the producer of one of the greatest tributes ever :upset:
Yeah, but so many good bands are coming out with amazing albums, Korn has 2 albums coming out this year!

Grey Incision 03-26-2005 02:23 AM

eh, not a big fan of korn, but i can't wait for, tool, opeth, porcupine tree and strapping young lad's new albums :)

IvortheEngineDriver 03-27-2005 04:59 AM

^^^Add DT to that list (haven't heard SYL yet) and those are the albums I am creamin' for right now, plus Audioslave's album. This summer, I am going to SOOOOOOOOOOOO many shows. Also, I'm looking forward to Mudvayne's new album, not as good as their other ones, but I enjoy hearin bands progress.

Much like Opeth has progressed since Orchid...They can only go up, IMO. I just wish Steven wasn't producing this one. I think he has done his magic with BWP and D/D, but, I think they need a new face to bring in a different sound to enhance the sound they already have.

the2stranger 03-27-2005 12:24 PM

^

STeven Wilson isn't producing this album, they have ome other dude producing now.
I'm curious how it will sound, with no help from SW, although Opeth can produce great albums themselves too though.

oh, and off topic, I read some info about the new Porcupine tree album, with Mikeal as guest appearance, but he only does vocal harmonies :(
I thought he would do some solo or something, but too bad, although Mikeals vocals will contribute great too the album

Grey Incision 03-27-2005 05:00 PM

I like steven wilson's sound, knowing how he influenced opeth's stuff, it will be a treat to see what mikael can do for steve.

Cardboard Headgear 03-27-2005 05:59 PM
det.........you mentioned an Ayreon dvd..............this can't be a concert can it? more info? :)
It comes with the special edition of The Human Equation, has lots of 'making of' stuff and a music video for Day 11.

i am the robots 03-27-2005 06:02 PM

I just found out an interesting tidbit about my favorite Opeth album, Morningrise. Apparently Anders Friden from In Flames helped out quite a bit with the production.

bucket 03-27-2005 06:18 PM

I went 40 days without listening to Opeth. It was horrible, but on the plus side I discovered King Crimson.

If you want a good sounding modern day version of King Crimson, seriously check out Anekdoten...especially Gravity. I found this band on Mike's playlist and the album was compared to ****ation (though, I dont really see the similarity). Its a beautiful album and I think every Opeth fan should check em out...just some good ole fashion Prog Rock! Download The War is Over...an amazing song! :thumb:

(Seriously, people, please check em out!)

Grey Incision 03-28-2005 04:57 AM

anyone know anything about the band camel? Mike is a huge fan, and Arjen lucassen (ayreon) said that he is as well. Camel has apparently influenced them both greatly

Well, Still Life was the last album they did w/o SW and its one of their best, if not the (My fave is still Blackwater Park)

So...we'll wait and see

I grabbed a live version of Rhayder Goes To Town off the Opeth forum, and I quite like it. It's Yes-ish in nature, and it's got this great 'goofy' kind of feel to it. I dunno, you have to hear it, but then that will make sense.

Special Brew 03-28-2005 08:39 AM

I have had Orchid for a little while now and it's been the only CD I have been able to listen to. But yesterday I bought Blackwater Park and I can't believe ho wmuch better it is. Both albums are great but it's hard to believe anything much better than Blackwater Park. I am in Florida right now visiting my gf, but when I get back to Kentucky I will pick up Morningrise, ****ation, and Deliverance since I ordered them throigh Sam Goody.

Deth 03-28-2005 08:51 AM

Morningrise owns. I've heard all of ****ation and most of Deliverance so you're in for a hella good time. My next album will probably be Still Life though.

yes people should, I have their gravity album, and theitr nucleus album.
although I have only listened to the gravity album really.
nice accoustics, i do see the similarities(sp?) with Opeth.

Don't get your hopes up...I definetly wouldn't call what they've done recently "progressing." Have you heard that new track, what is it..."****ing Determined"?

Dream Theater has a song called fvcking determined? Dear lord, that's not a good sign.

Don't worry dude, that's Mudvayne's new stuff, not DT. :thumb:

Deth 03-28-2005 03:25 PM

Oh, the post kind of confused me. I didn't read the whole quote.

Disaster averted.

the2stranger 03-28-2005 03:25 PM

man, this stuff hasd nothing to do with Opeth.

so any news on the new album, they entered the studios at 15 march, but there haven't been any updates since

Deth 03-28-2005 03:27 PM

I wouldn't think they would have time. They'll probably be working for a couple of months straight and updating the websites probably near the bottom of the to do list.

the2stranger 03-28-2005 03:29 PM

yup, I'm affraid so, too bad

I do hope they post more tourdates soon :smoke:

Deth 03-28-2005 03:30 PM

Me too, I'm getting anxious.

Juicy_Forlorn 03-28-2005 04:30 PM

Can anyone recommend me some Opeth songs that don't have scary growling?
I love their music but the singer's growling scares me a tad sometime so could someone recommend me some instrumentals or songs with clean singing?

bucket 03-28-2005 05:03 PM

To Bid You Farewell and A Fair Judgement were the first two Opeth songs I heard. I still love them.

Has any tour information been released regarding the US?

Det_Nosnip 03-28-2005 06:54 PM

That was the best post yet!

Deth 03-28-2005 08:17 PM

As for non-growling songs, maybe the first 2 albums which is a different singing style and The Drapery Falls, which has a little at the end.

Nostalgia 03-28-2005 09:06 PM

Ok, lol im kind of hesitate to post this but has anyone ever got teary eyed or sad once they listened to opeth? I saw this thread and I heard great things about them, so I wanted to see what the fuss was about so I went out and bought Blackwater park...it blew me away I was hooked, and every now and then when I hear The Drapery Falls I still start to cry a little bit. I hope I'm not the only one
