I don't see how you could
I just dont like reggae at all. |
It doesn't matter how artistically valid Matisyahu is, he will always be viewed as a gimmick simply for the components that make up his identity.
I think he's all right; I like how sometimes the guitar will add some Yiddish melodies in with the reggae, which better represents the two realities he is trying to combine. But yeah, he won't last long because he's too damn different. |
My Mr Beast review is also up. I thought it was a great album, so my review's different. Now I'm going to waste my time eating dinner.

Speaking of Matisyahu, I downloaded his latest album, Youth. I think it comes out March 7th.
|
It feels like its been awhile.
Speaking of Matisyahu, I downloaded his latest album, Youth. I think it comes out March 7th.
I preordered it a while ago, cuz the preorder came with a dub version LP (sweet!), and it came today, which would be a day early, so that's pretty sweet.
You need to see more bands live.
Son, I've seen The Who, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton 3 times, Radiohead, U2, Buddy Guy, David Bowie, Simon & Garfunkel, Robert Plant, and enough others to say that I've seen some good shows, and I STILL thought he rocked, so forgive me for getting excited because there's finally a proud Jewish performer making honest, spiritual music and making a name for himself, despite the criticisms from secular indie footsoldiers who call him a "gimmick." And suck my avatar. |
Son, I've seen The Who, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton 3 times, Radiohead, U2, Buddy Guy, David Bowie, Simon & Garfunkel, Robert Plant, and enough others to say that I've seen some good shows
Wow, that's some cool bands you've seen there. How is Youth? I've not got round to getting it yet, but I will probably do so at the weekend. I've heard the title track and it sound pretty sweet, but seems to take on a new direction...does the rest of the album?
In completely unrelated news, I think I'm becoming some kind of scary Lord of the Rings obcessive freak. I've all of a sudden become completely absorbed in the books, films, game for the pc and anything else lotr related. At this rate I will be at some type of Tolkein convention by the end of the month. |

The Who, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton 3 times, Radiohead, U2, Buddy Guy, David Bowie, Simon & Garfunkel, Robert Plant.
All of those bands are just living on their hey days, sans Radiohead. Anyways, David Berman of the Silver Jews has done a fine job being a jewish role model. :p |
Different strokes for different folks, right?

Crash won "Best Picture"... :D
Slug: I'm probably way off, but is that Liv Tyler? |
Death Cab wednesday. :)
Let's hope they won't play too much of Plans. |
Crash winning Best Picture is a joke. Fittingly so are the awards, I guess.

It's not as thoroughly enjoyable as Live At Stubb's, but it is way more diverse musically. It ranges from "Redemption Song" to pretty speedy dancehall, with much more beatboxing, more hip hop influence, all of which is good, but it lacks the Jewish musical influences, which I miss sorely. I also think they manhandled the vocals. They're mixed way too deeply and heavily. And it's kind of slick sounding. They should have tried to emulate the live sound more.
Overall, though, it's very good. I haven't listened to the dub version yet. We'll see how that goes after I finish this listen. |
I thought Crash was a decent film.
Just Constant Gardener is one of the best filmed movies I've seen in my life. And how the director wasn't nominated/win Best Director is beyond me. |
I didn't like Crash at all. I haven't seen any of the other films that were nominated though.

Pretty sad about the lack of jewish influence though, I hope he still has some random outbursts of jewish noises...like that cool part about a minute and a half through 'Refuge'.

Gah, I found out the other day that Dylan Moran is touring Australia but not anywhere remotely near me. :(
Gah, I found out the other day that Dylan Moran is touring Australia but not anywhere remotely near me. :(
I like that guy, one of a few really strong emerging stand-up comics. Ross Noble is still my current favorite, I saw him live last year, he was amazing.
|
Yeah, Ross Noble is fairly funny too. I've never seen Dylan Moran doing stand-up, but I love Black Books.
|
Yeah, Black Books is hillarious, but his stand up is even better.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-y4P8Aoo2k If you're interested. Just a little seven minute Comedy Store thing he did back in 1997, but it's very good. |
Sweet, I'll check that out when I can.

What was your choice? |

Lord Of The Rings own. I'm just majorly pissed they didn't make The Hobbit into a book, that was my favorite book when I was about eleven. |
Crash won "Best Picture"...
laaaaame |
We've had this argument already. I think Crash was wonderful, and totally deserved it.
|
There are 3 types of A/I'ers. One loves Matiyusha and Crash, the other likes one of them, and the other despises both of them.
|
You are absolutely right.
laaaaame
What were you going for? |
There are 3 types of A/I'ers. One loves Matiyusha and Crash, the other likes one of them, and the other despises both of them.
Then there's me, who liked Crash, has never heard Matisuahsuwerhu3qr23huru, and has holes in their socks. |
There are 3 types of A/I'ers. One loves Matiyusha and Crash, the other likes one of them, and the other despises both of them.
You could say the same thing about Bright Eyes and The Mars Volta, and your statement would still stand. |
What were you going for?
I could care less. But if Walk the Line were up for it then sure. |
I could care less.
But if Walk the Line were up for it then sure.
I would have too if it was up there. At least Witherspoon won something for it. |
Constant Gardener for the win.
Jewish Rapper that aren't the Beastie Boys for the lose. |
Rachel Weisz is pretty hot.
And the Beastie Boys are so much better than Matisyahu, but he's still good. |
Rachel Weisz is pretty hot.
