yeah, when i was little my dad introduced me to Jeff beck, and im 15 now. I didnt think much of him, but now he my favorite. Im also noticing tons more classic rock fans. a lot of my friends play guitar as well as me, and we get more out of classic rick than modern rock. rock bands that have guitar these days seem to not be putting much effort into playing it the correct and only way. they put hardly any creativity into it, and it just gets boring.
just putting my thoughts in everyone. :) |
Good first post, most people just blast all other music like rap. It'll be nice to have a Jeff Beck fan in the Classic Rock thread.
can someone recomend me some slide guitar songs?
Try Old Friend by the Allman Brothers. Ill try and think of some more. |
hey livewired if you are looking for slide guitar songs look into George Thorogood, he's an amazing slide guitarist. Allman brothers have some great ones. Clapton had a few.
are you looking for ones to listen to? or play yourself? |
Are you guys into Rainbows Rising album? Its so much more classic rock than the others, so just wondering if you dig it.
/totally uncool++ |
Guitar World Acoustic - Paul McCartney
i got this guitar acoustic magazine with a good interview with paul mcartney. it was interesting how he said he never cared at all what equipment he was using, he just cared about the songs. he owned some gibsons and martins and guilds and other very high end guitars, but he always said he liked playing his epiphone the most. which i think is cool, because other guitarists you see only use like the most expensive guitar they can find, and then they buy tonnes of them. paul only used a few different guitars in his career.
I have that issue. Very interesting, although I find guitar world acoustic to be too short. I play mainly electric anyway. |

i usually don't bother with magazines anyways. we have a bunch laying around at work, and i read them sometimes if my student doesnt show up. i'm more of an acoustic guy, but either way is fine. |
The artist is Rainbow, the album is Rising.
|
i've never heard Rising, maybe i will look into it.
so today as i was looking for amps, i was very disappointed. I went to about seven different stores here in Calgary, and only one store had the head i wanted, and all the cabinets i wanted were either in horrible condition used, or overpriced new. |
You should, its one of the best classic rock albums ive ever heard.
Why not check online?
oooh good idea never thought of that.... because i dont like buying things online, and i like to play them before i buy them, and i dont like to pay insane amounts of shipping and handling, and everyplace i have looked wont deliver to canada for anything less than a fortune. thanks for caring though. but i prefer to buy in person. |
I had 2 (TWO!) root canals performed on me at the dentist today :(.
^The numbness is finally stopping. Because I had two (One on the top right of my mouth, other on bottom right) done. So one whole side of my face had no feeling.
Out of 4 shots, only one hurt BTW. |

edit- your lucky Rock isnt' here...but can you just talk about this in the community thread? if this thread gets closed for too much spam, i will be left out in the cold. |
^Yes! You, the comedian.
*crackin' skulls* :p Good News: Grateful Dead > everyone else besides myself. |
Which of the Beatles' compositions do you like best?

Talking about your own issues and such is for the community thread. This is for classic rock stuff and it almost got closed once because we were very off topic. All crying about **** should be re-directed into the community thread. *gets off of high horse* I've never seen any Beatles compalations. What are some examples? |

I know i'll get crap for this, but I was listenin to the radio the other day, and that band Silvertide came on. I gotta admit, they can pull of the classic rock thing very well without sounding lame like Jet or one of those bands. I actually kinda like them. Not a lot of bands have been able to do this besides them and maybe the Black Crows.

I said Beatles compositions not compilations. I meant: do you prefer John Lennon's, Paul McCartney's, George Harrison's or Ringo Starr's original songs better? |

They remind me of Ac/dc in the aspect of lame, trivial lyrics and the same type of rockin' guitar solos. Exept Ac/dc's like 4872672687265876872 times better. The Silvertide stuff i've heard isn't very memorable. They still kick the crap out of 99% of modern mainstream music. |

They certainly have their potential. I was looking for slide songs to play by the way. /just read more of the Jim Morrison biography. :D |
