How are you doing, dude? What have you been listening to recently?

I'm doing pretty good. I'm back in school, retaking everything I did bad in last year (I would stay up all night online and then skip school). I'm about 30 credits away from going to University of Maryland.

Hmm..still working at a music store.

And my friend and I are finally forming a band.

And this is what I've been listening too:

:-D

You?

If anyone cares, that is where I work.

I'm doing pretty good, me and my girlfriend have just gotten through the worst rough patch we've experienced yet, which is good, and I've been listening to a lot of metal (as usual) and New Age/Celtic music. Every week my last.fm is divided between bands like Nevermore, Opeth, and Amon Amarth on one side and performers like Nightnoise, Phil Keaggy, and Acoustic Alchemy on the other.

EDIT: It seems I'm a bloody conversation killer today. Sorry. :(

Arucard 03-07-2006 10:01 AM

Recently i've had an urge to kill all Opeth fans. I'm unsure why.

Cain 03-07-2006 10:03 AM
Recently i've had an urge to kill all Opeth fans. I'm unsure why.
Why's that?

PinkFreud 03-07-2006 10:10 AM

Yeah, I haven't been listening to much CR lately either. But the thread is still interesting, it's still kind of like a community thread for us.

Cain, Phil Keaggy is amazing. So unappreciated. He's an unbelievable acoustic player. I think a lot of people are put off because he was in a Christian band.

No one pays attention to my FA. :(

EVERYONE SHOULD READ ABOUT BUCKETHEAD!

/deletes every reference to your FA in quote

It wasn't a Christian band, but it's quite possible that hippie-dippie fans were a little bewildered at having to listen to Keaggy mount confessionals from the stage while the whole audience was tripping on acid immediately after Keaggy's conversion back to Christianity.

There are very few guitarists as good as he is, and I only have Acoustic Sketches and I can make that pronouncement. :p I've heard he screams on electric too, too bad he doesn't often do that owing to his religious beliefs.

It happens. Certain non-mainstream metal bands that are nevertheless very popular sometimes attract annoying fans. I was pretty irritated by a few Opeth fans at the last show I went to see them at.

I would never go so far as to say I want to kill them all, though.

I hate Avenged Sevenfold.

Yeah I know about that. There's always a few at every gig I go to.

Steerpike 03-07-2006 10:40 AM

The Rush concert of course had the drunken/stoned middle age guys trying to rock out to Limelight.

But even though I'm looking forward to the Michale Graves concert this spring, I can't say I'll be too enthused to interact with select members of the crowd.

I like both Opeth and A7X.

Like, as in I would buy an album (I actually own 2 Opeth ones) But not listen to it all that often, bar Damnation. I love that album. but not whore them from every rooftop like I do with my favourite bands.

'sup?

Deth 03-07-2006 10:44 AM

I whore Opeth from every rooftop. Doesn't work with people I know though :-/.

The whoring is reserved more for groups like Graves, Send More Paramedics, Cannibal Corpse, etc.

To be honest, I would actually find it infinitely less annoying to have a friend tell me, "Dude, you gotta listen to this band! They sing about zombies!" than to hear someone tell me, "Dude, Trivium is, like, the new Metallica!"

Lord Abortion 03-07-2006 10:49 AM

Who the hell would want to be the new Metallica?

Musically I mean...

Ah, I was mistaken. I DID know that he had strong religious beliefs, though. Glass Harp sounds interesting but I've never actually heard them. I can only imagine what a monster he is on an electric though because he's absurd with the acoustic.

Jev 03-07-2006 10:53 AM

There was this kid in the line of the DT show being a right prick about Chapman Sticks and Tony Levin. I felt like breaking his face. Still nothign compares to the Greenday crowd :upset:

Apparently the little pseudo-rebels you see at their concerts.

MTV kiddies really do win in this little competition of obnoxious.

As I have said on numerous occassions, the Slipknot crowd came up with a very appropriate moniker when they dubbed themselves maggots because most of them, like their namesake, are small, white, and make me want to vomit.

Americans; is Clay Aiken really being sued for being gay (essentially)?

I like Tony Levin...

What I don't like is when people try to sound intelligent and spout off some "factoid" that's just wrong. Someone tried to tell me once that Levin actually INVENTED the stick. I cried a tear of hatred.

I hope to see them at Glasgow, where I'm probably going to Uni, then at home.
