smartest post goes to styler for awarding me with the smartest post.

no, wait. you get second smartest post, i'm still smarter, even though you're smart enough to recognize how smart i am. which, by the way, is pretty smart.

Double Bass Jim 01-25-2006 10:09 PM

It's about versatility the same thing can be said about sound focus rings on high end drums. Your paying thousands of dollars for a drum thats "pre-focused" Why? Why would you do such a thing when you can simply tune for focus? You can tune a clear amb down MUCH deeper and lower and even more focused then a pinstripe. You don't need these things at all.

Look.. Do you want the tool your sitting behind to be limited no matter how great of a player you are? Or do you want something that can suit ANY idea that comes into your head. Ever play soft on a hydrualic head before? It sounds like tap dancing on a box of zip lock bags. If you want to be a great player having an instrument that can express yourself in any dynamic situation and volume is utterly important.

Win A Rabbit 01-25-2006 10:12 PM

it's like buying a sports car, then having 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear taken out. sure, the car will still drive...

its true...sadly...

i hit my medium tom lightly with my stick...all i heard was....boooong...i was like...EWW!

Double Bass Jim 01-25-2006 10:15 PM

Hahah exactly!

Excellent example.

styler 01-25-2006 10:16 PM

but it is still the persons choice, maybe the person will never need to express themselves in that way, its there expression to express, if they feel the need for an amb, great, if they feel the need for a pinstripe, even better, there not limiting themselves to just an amb.

Win A Rabbit 01-25-2006 10:21 PM

suicide is a person's choice. is it the right answer? most certainly not.

by recommending them to a better head, we're still allowing them to limit the ways they express themselves, while at the same time, being able to express themselves in many other ways.

it's like if you wanted to be an artist, and someone got you an 8x12 piece of paper instead of a 3x3. sure, you can just use a 3x3 section of the 8x12, but now you've got much more room for freedom of expression.

man, i'm just throwing these metaphors all over the place. i'm in the zone tonight. ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Double Bass Jim 01-25-2006 10:21 PM

Your not limited with an amb thats the thing, you are with a pinstripe.

And yes you can tune down an amb to sound exactly the same as a pinstripe and they cost less money as well. Do you think anyone with any asperation is going to want to play dead tones forever? Of course not what if a kid gets inspried to play something dynamic and he wasted 100 bucks on a set of pins? It's not like you can add tone to a pin not even if you close your eyes and wish really hard. They suck man and thats all there is to it, I have them and I also have a set of clear hydros.

Expression comes from the players mind, hands and feet. Strangling your kit isnt a form of expression it's a form of retardation which seems to run rampart around here.

Win A Rabbit 01-25-2006 10:24 PM

i'm starting to get into bedouin soundclash now. i first heard "when the night feels my song" and was impartial about it. then it started growing on me. i never showed any interest. my friend bought their cd and played it a few days ago, and i realized i liked it alot more than i thought i would. they're a great band.

styler 01-25-2006 10:26 PM

you made both our points here.

but its still not my point. sic is doing a better job than both of us. hes made both our points.

its the persons choice. thats all ive been trying to say.

Loyton 01-25-2006 10:27 PM

And you know what? The best drummer I know personally, uses hydros on some old tamas. He says

"You know what? People do all this talk, then they hear me play, and they tell me how amazing my kit sounds and ask what heads I have on there.... then I love the look when I tell em' hydros, because really, I dont care, they sound good."

I cant aruge with that. Espically since that man has chops and independence out the freken ears, and is a rudimental GENIOUS! Not like... being able to play rudimentally, I mean hes a extremely well known and highly regaurded drumline composer. Total ****ing joy to watch that man write his work. Or play.

Win A Rabbit 01-25-2006 10:27 PM

SIC FOR MOD!!!

no, scratch that.

SIC FOR GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 i'm gonna go read some more now.

styler 01-25-2006 10:28 PM

123 to loyton.

123 to sic.

lol

Futuro 01-25-2006 10:28 PM

Technically your are limiting your sound possibilities with thick heads :-/ If you can get the same sound by muting a thin head, Plus a whole slew of Wide open tones. Why would you limit yourself

Loyton 01-25-2006 10:29 PM

Hey, thats what I thought, but im definatly not about to argue with the man, he rocks me in every aspect!

Double Bass Jim 01-25-2006 10:30 PM

People don't know any better, or don't bother to experiment or research.

styler 01-25-2006 10:30 PM

Win A Rabbit 01-25-2006 11:03 PM

well i decided a shower was more important than reading. i hadn't showered since sunday, and i was starting to feel gross. it was at that stage where i'm dirty, but i feel like i wanna get clean. anything past that, and it gets to the stage where i'm dirty and i wanna stay dirty, so i don't shower for a week.

Double Bass Jim 01-25-2006 11:03 PM

man, the conan walker texas ranger lever was probably the best invention ever. the only competition is the god machine on the daily show.

Futuro 01-25-2006 11:07 PM
man, the conan walker texas ranger lever was probably the best invention ever. the only competition is the god machine on the daily show.
I love Conan O brien! At first I watched his show just to see Max Wienberg (When you first start all you want to do is look at high quality drums :D )
man, the conan walker texas ranger lever was probably the best invention ever. the only competition is the god machine on the daily show.
The only better then Conan WTR is the Conan screen when he makes fun of political figures "AWWWWWRH see my new movie terminato three rise of the machines conan! GO SEE IT!!" lol so funny

Win A Rabbit 01-25-2006 11:12 PM

haha the martha stewart, michael jackson, and george bush ones always make me laugh. i'm hesitant to call that an "invention" though. funny nonetheless.

FockerTheLopper 01-25-2006 11:13 PM

Yeah, I love connan

Win A Rabbit 01-25-2006 11:19 PM

on the other hand, i can't stand jay leno. his stand-up is so bad. it's basically the same joke every night, worded differently, with only the guitarist (kevin?) and 5 people from the crowd laughing. oh, and can't forget the bass drum on every single punch line. his "sketches" are very poor, and his interviews are downright boring. even with the a-list celebrities, it still manages to bore me on a regular basis. how he's #1 is amazing to me.

one of my friends' dad looks like jay leno, too. he's a cool guy, though, unlike leno.

Double Bass Jim 01-25-2006 11:22 PM

He's a HORRIBLE interviewer, seriously the man can't interview people.

FockerTheLopper 01-25-2006 11:25 PM
He's a HORRIBLE interviewer, seriously the man can't interview people.
Yeah but his chin rocks!
Still though, it can't compare with Connans hair

rockindrummer 01-25-2006 11:57 PM

Jim how's the move going?

Seafroggys 01-26-2006 12:13 AM

I like Leno alot actually...*I* laugh at his jokes at least....

but Conan is still the man!

Double Bass Jim 01-26-2006 12:18 AM

His stand up is pretty good, he's not afraid to lay into people which is always good.
