I think there have been enough tellings of us to vote for Cliff. Metallica didn't go whimpy, they followed where Cliff would've wanted them to go. He wanted them to constantly change how they write, and they did that on each album, naturally there were albums that changed a little too fast like Load, Reload, and St. Anger, and that's why a lot of people thought hey whimped out cause they weren't as heavy as they were before.

Jev 07-16-2005 11:53 AM
dont forget to vote for Cliff in the 100 best bassists poll!!!
I have already.

TheShaneOMac 07-16-2005 12:41 PM
Does that make them sell-outs? Rich people don't need to sell-out.
Selling out is not just for money.

hethamulburton 07-16-2005 01:07 PM

Selling out is too harsh a term. Selling out is like going from Jason or Freddy to Barney. They changed to mainstream rock, not a sell out, people change genres all the time.

SeekandDestroy220 07-16-2005 01:34 PM

Sellouts?

I don't think it is fair to call Metallica sellouts beecause the'yre genre changes. When a band is around for 20 yrs there is obviously going to be some sort of change in they're sound. With that said, i think that St. Anger was nowhere near as good as some of thier other albums because of the nu-metal sound it has

brettberry 07-16-2005 02:04 PM

They only way I would consider that selling out is if they told the public years ago that they would stay the same. Sounds pretty lame to stay the same music all the time to me, yeah the messed up on st.anger but they are trying to find a different sound than everyone else.

i agree with you there, i mean, had they wanted to play thrash and stick to it they would have probably kept writing in a Kill 'Em All vein.

ya- it's ridiculous to say that they went whimpy, i think that slower songs like fade to black, one , the unforgiven 1&2, and nothing else matters are metallica's best songs

Jev 07-16-2005 02:29 PM

Who said they went wimpy?

DisposableHeroes 07-16-2005 02:46 PM

i've seen it posted before(not here), maybe not in those exact words either

Britton 07-16-2005 03:01 PM

Yea A lot of people call them "sell outs" but most of them are thirteen year old girls who don't know @#$! about Metallica

to live is to die is my faverite* Tallica song

actually most of them are old school guys who were there from the start of the thrash scene, just check the Exodus message board ;)

Everyone seems to think they did that after Black Album when the hair was cut.

Dont hate me for my username.

Didn't Hammett play for Exodus before he joined Metallica? That'd be why all the Exodus fans bash on Metallica because they know Metallica has a better lead.

What's their point tho?

I won't.

They both were brand spanking new bands when all that happened. Kirk did play for Exodus but when he was recruited to Metallica you gotta remember everybody in the two bands were like 17 and 18

i just started to really get into 'tallica a few months ago, and i wish i had much sooner :) they're a great inspiration for my songwriting and guitar playing now.i have pretty much all their cd's 'cept for load, and anger. i was wondering if anybody could suggest some songs with easier solo's?this may have already been posted but this is a d*mn long thread and i don't want to go through it all.

The easiest solo of all time by metallica: Nothing Else Matters
A cooler easy solo: Of Wolf And Man

The solo in the inro of One is pretty basic and check out the solo from the unforgiven too from realod, i think its another hetfield solo so its in a basic a minor pentatonic on the 15th fret

Yeah, your username is fine, its from the METAL GODS MAAANNNN!!!! ;)

Joe 07-16-2005 09:37 PM

All of the intro solos are fairly easy.

The outro solos of Sanitarium and Four Horsemen are fairly easy

Most of the Black Album solos are cool or easy

Don't bother with most of the AJFA solos until you can handle the others, they're amazing. Any James solo is fairly easy too (Orion, NEM) also the Reload solos are pretty easy. The middle solos of Sanitarium and MOP are really easy too

Sorry, that was a long list, but they're all pretty cool. just pick a song you like and stick with it until you know the whole thing and then it'll be easy

brettberry 07-16-2005 11:25 PM

yeah you might wanna stay away from ajfa unless you want to learn that badass intro to ajfa

JonG 07-17-2005 12:59 AM
yeah you might wanna stay away from ajfa unless you want to learn that badass intro to ajfa
I just got done learning the entire song. Some good fills in there. Fun to play and easy(except the 2nd solo).

Huber 07-17-2005 02:16 AM

The begining of AJFA is really, really fun to play. I wish I was good enough to learn the solos so I could play the whole song :(

brettberry 07-17-2005 03:39 AM

well, make a vow to yourself to learn nothing but solos from now on until you either get good enough to move on to other things or you fail. You do need to exceed in many fields before you stick to just one.

kill_em_all 07-17-2005 04:26 AM

im working on the fade to black solos so our band can kick maximum a** in this comp coming up. we dont have much competition only punk bands playin blink 182 stuff.
i wonder who will win

brettberry 07-17-2005 04:35 AM

that isnt considered competition its considered a waste of time and/or money

Jev 07-17-2005 04:43 AM

Hey, my bands working on Orion for a concert later on this year(hopefully). The other bands cover the same songs all the time. I can predict that there will be Blink 182-First Date, Offspring-The Kids aren't alright(i think that's it) and Black Sabbath-Paranoid and Iron Man. At least playing Orion will be something more different.

kill_em_all 07-17-2005 04:43 AM

I agree
the solos in FTB are fairly easy but theres fast bits here and there. the 2nd solo is so easy though.

kill_em_all 07-17-2005 04:52 AM

we were thinking of doing an instrumental because we dont like our singer, hes got a girls voice. if we were to do and instrumental it would be Orion (i love the bass bit at 3:59)
the offers still open for any one interested in singing in my band (australians only)

Pop punk bands will probably win. After all they are pretty poppy playing blink 182 and teens are probably the only people that will listen to that event, so you probably will loose. Unless you do like enter sandman. :thumb:
I agree

Agreed. I just can't get the one fast part in the intro solo down perfectly. I've got it for the most part. I can play the rest of the song

to all talking about ajfa: i was talking about the album... i can do the beginning of the song but i haven't bothered with the last 8 minutes of the song
Pop punk bands will probably win. After all they are pretty poppy playing blink 182 and teens are probably the only people that will listen to that event, so you probably will loose. Unless you do like enter sandman.
or some incredibly kickass other metallica song from the black album

Jev 07-17-2005 08:26 AM

But don't you think playing something that hasn't been played before(Orion) has a better chance of winning than a song that's been played at every concert played?

Joe 07-17-2005 08:28 AM

OMG!!!

NP: Blood Brothers by Iron Maiden

It's off the Brave New World cd, for any fans. am i crazy or does the intro sound like cliff's bass solo in orion?!?!?!
But don't you think playing something that hasn't been played before(Orion) has a better chance of winning than a song that's been played at every concert played?
Yes but because you're a local band people want to hear lyrics. If you're going to play it do not play the whole thing. Even Metallica only plays part of their instrumentals at concerts (besides one or two like S&M).

Schecterguitarist 07-17-2005 08:34 AM

I think a lot of people will dig orion at ur competition FLOWER DANCE, its jammed pack with great riffs and everyone will get a kick out of the bass solo. The songs got something for everyone: a wicked funky bass intro, slow somewhat "classical" interlude and some good old head banging metal
