I want to go and watch the Bill but i hate leaving in the middle of debates.

I have the flu........ :upset:
Nope, but you've gotta ask yourself why was 50 cent playing at a British rock festival? Yes, i would harm someone because of their opinions, if someone was racially abusing me or one of my mates for example, i would smash their face in :)
50 Cent wasn't doing that to anyone though, he had been asked to play a gig.
Being asked to play reading/leeds by the organiser often gives the impression that you will be wanted to play.
He went on stage and did what he does, he performed, and he was rewarded with a hail of bottles and abuse.
Calling it a rock festival is a bit incorrect, my brother went and came back with techno and hip-hop.
Did anyone bottle the suicide girls?
After all, they are not rock.

duffroxmysox 01-20-2005 02:07 PM

Its still pretty well known as a rock fest though, its not known as a hip-hop festival

And also, ok so it may have been a bad move on behalf of the organisers, inviting him, but he should still have some idea and decide "maybe this aint for me"

EDIT: just cos he was asked, he should've still done some kind of research as to what he was actually doing, its a bit like agreeing to jump out of a plane parachoute-less without knowing what a plane or parachoute were

:)

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 01-20-2005 02:07 PM

No, but they fitted in with the late night entertainment bill, in the same way that no-one bottled the cinema screen that was showing Sean Of The Dead.

Artists like that are purely in it for the money, and they pushed legendary artists (despite maybe me not likeing them) such as Graham Coxon to one side

I've been to the pub in that film :)

Just not inside....twas after hours :)

Brew 01-20-2005 02:11 PM

Reading has always had hip-hop/rap artists on its bill.

Well...ever since Mean Fiddler took over.

50 Cent just got booked on the wrong night.

/is already planning trip to Reading this year

50 Cent isn't a sellout, yes he likes money, but I think everyone in this thread does, and he raps about money, but he's made enough to retire, if he was a sellout, he'd give up now, he needs no more money, he will live in a luxury pad and never have to work for the rest of his life.
He just wants to perform and that's why he took the slot, He thought " Oh so maybe it's a bit rock, but I'll perform anyway, if some people like me it'll be worth it"
He didn't expect to be attacked with bottles, as a performer myself I know the rush to get up on any stage, and I can imagine the prospect of a massive festival full of thousands.
He came because he wanted to perform, So he got paid alot, So what? Who here would like to do a job they love and get paid?
Yeah, that is that part of the discussion over, we live in a capitalist society, no matter what you ethical financial morals, money is required to live and he was given a chance for money, to entertain people.
No, but they fitted in with the late night entertainment bill, in the same way that no-one bottled the cinema screen that was showing Sean Of The Dead.
How do strippers fit in more at a music festival than a rapper?

Either way, sellout or nay, If he wasn't liked, there was nothing at all to stop people from walking away and going to other places at the festival, no-one strapped them down and forced them, it's a sad state of affairs when people feel they have to actively seek out an hour of music they hate just so they can complain and ostracize.

duffroxmysox 01-20-2005 02:23 PM

*I never said he was a sellout

EDIT: deciding not to play a festival cos its not your type of music isn't selling out, it's just realising that ok, you may love to perform but the people at the gig probably wont want to see you and wont necessarily enjoy it. There were probably a few who did, but you cant just go because there may be the one who'll enjoy it.

I mean imagine a punk band turning up at party in the park or something similar...it wouldn't work all to well

I'm all for accepting other types of music, but dont force it on people or just expect that they'll like you if you turn up somewhere out-of-place

50 Cent was in it for the money, therefore he's not going to give up now that he has ignorant little punks at his mercy scraping together £50 so they can buy the next G-Unit trainers or whatever. He's making money out of a 20minute appearance therefore he's not going to be complaing about it.

And the Suicide Girls weren't there to be part of the rock festival, they were there as late night entertainement, put on to help people have a good time after the music hours have finsihed. Going by that logic you can just get ridiculous. What part do films have at rock fest? What role do comedians have at a rock fest? etc etc

Brew 01-20-2005 02:28 PM

What about the other rappers there?
50 Cent is a rapper, and rappers are always at reading, How was he supposed to know otherwise?
50 Cent definately isn't the first rapper to be at the festival, other rappers don't get a bottled, thus he sensibly believed that he would be accepted.

They have no role, but funnily enough, no-one was throwing bottles and crying for them to not be there.

Can you prove 50 Cent is in it for the money?
After all, you just said he can make money from adverts and selling expensive shoes, why perform at all anymore?
What about the other headliners paid alot of money?
Did anyone attack Metallica when they headlined?
Metallica have figurines, you can't tell me that is not going for the cash?
They got paid alot to headline I am sure, and I'm sure they made alot of cd and shirt sales. No-one accuses them of selling out, Millencolin have their own Vans trainers, Has anyone accused them of selling out?

Rappers aren't common at Reading,t here were maybe 5 on the whole bill this year. And those that there were were generally British based and so the festival was therefore supporting aspiring British artists such as GLC.

The fact that he has his own brands and sings about his love of money is proof enough that he's it for the money. It is as good as a signed confession, presuming he writes the lyrics himself unlike his "beats" that come out of a computer.

Millencolin are a small time Swedish band, i didn't even know they had a sponsor and i quite like them, so i'm sure the majority of people who buy the trainers didn't.

the Suicide girls aren't hookers, they're dancers. It might have been a different story if they'd started going round having sex with everyone, but as far as i know they didn't

I don't want to know how he found out he had foreskin like that.
