AlienEater 03-09-2007 06:30 AM

I have been listening to some recentish King Crimson bootlegs and Projekt 1, 2 and 3 stuff. They are KC offshoots. Good stuff

Sepstrup 03-09-2007 07:07 AM

Neon Bible is good. Particularly "Intervention" and "The Well and The Lighthouse".

I'm listening to Paul's Boutique now. It's awesome. Beastie Boys are playing at Roskilde Festival.

The Jungler 03-09-2007 08:17 AM

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy

It reminds me of MBV and Echo. It also makes me want to listen to alot of Yo La Tengo.

Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance

Probably one of my favourite albums now
fbcfabric & Reindeer - It's Not Who You Know, It's Whom You Know
The production is interesting, I suppose. I didn't appreciate the 51 seconds of silence at the beginning. The track being entitled "The Lighting Of The Lamps," I assume that's there for you to spark your bowl up before the music starts. I can understand that being a pretty good way to listen to this record, but since I don't really get down like that anymore, I'm not too into records that only sound good when you're stoned.

The mix is pretty bad, which might be because it's mixed for stoned people. The vocals are totally obscured by the noisy beats. When I can pick them up, and I'm pretty good at understanding British rappers, the lyrics are pretty decent. They're very clever in terms of poetic devices, and the imagery combined with the music is compelling, but I don't really know what he's talking about ever, which is a major weakness in a rapper for me, because I suspect that he isn't talking about anything, which is the opposite of hip hop. Some of the tracks seem to suggest some kind of socially conscious train of thought, but there's no coherent message; it's not directed at anything or anyone in particular. It's just more meandering "system" rap.

But if you take this for what it is, an ambient, mysterious, very British-sounding trip-hop record, instead of what it isn't, true hip hop, it's enjoyable. It's the kind of record that's good for a very specific situation, which is good... for that very specific situation.

You should track down track 9, "Mask Of Sanity." I grabbed it on soulseek after I downloaded the rest from you, and it's probably the most coherent track on the record, by which I mean, the beat is tight (in more than one sense), the samples are disciplined and tasteful, and the vocal is at least in the foreground of the mix. I'm still not really sure what he's on about, but it is reminiscent of a Massive Attack-style headphones track.

I haven't gotten all the way through yet. The really long tracks are coming up. I have a feeling those are going to make it or break it. I'll let you know. Either way, thanks for the new tunes.

EDIT 11:58 AM: Honestly, it got to the point where I got bored and had to start skipping. I don't think this is a keeper. Thanks for the listen, though.

How is that Battles album/ep?

Kyle 03-10-2007 07:47 AM

It's actually a whole brand spanking album which isn't due til' May, but leaked. It seems pretty good so far.

AlienEater 03-10-2007 07:56 AM

Oh I think I heard one song from it. It was pretty weird, especially the vocals.

Aphex Twin - Ventolin
This is kinda like a lot of his other eps: pretty much pointless.

ATM 03-10-2007 08:16 AM

The new Battles has vocals?

AlienEater 03-10-2007 08:18 AM

The new song on their myspace does

I think its off the new album

ATM 03-10-2007 08:26 AM

Oh wierd. It's also wierd hearing the new Hella with vocals.
