Yeah that springs to mind as a good compilation,
I'm listening to wheels of fire, for the first time in ages now.

Illmatic 02-15-2005 05:13 PM
Led Zeppelin III had some songs that could be considered flower power. I've just recently gotten into 'flower power' type music
Like what?

Influenced by folk and country =/= "flower power"

Badmoon 02-15-2005 05:16 PM
I remember watching Keith Moon's and Jimi Hendrix's "Behind the Music" specials back to back when I was like, 11 or 12. That's what first got me into rock.
I wish they'd replay those :(

Jam2Me 02-15-2005 05:18 PM

I've got Beatles' "1", Best of Grateful Dead, best of Allman Brothers, best of Lynyrd Skynyrd, best of Beach Boys, best of Rolling Stones, Buffalo Springfield and probably some more. Although the best of is good enough for some bands.

ledpoisoning27 02-15-2005 05:18 PM
Like what?

Influenced by folk and country =/= "flower power"
Most of the songs on their except Immigrant Song and Since I've Been Loving You

Illmatic 02-15-2005 05:19 PM

They didn't hold back anything, they had all the famous footage

Hendrix burning his guitar at Monterey
Hendrix playing the National Anthem at Woodstock
Keith Moon's base drum exploding
The Roger Daltrey microphone twirl during Baba O'Riley and the laser lights/fog machine keyboard solo during Won't Get Fooled Again
Other stuff too but I barely remember it.

My 11/12 year old mind was awed.

Woodstock 02-15-2005 05:20 PM

I was a huge Zeppelin n00b, but it was before anybody else liked them, so I was still cool.

Illmatic 02-15-2005 05:21 PM
Most of the songs on their except Immigrant Song and Since I've Been Loving You
Like I said, folk/country influences don't exactly mean "flower power"

Bron-Y-Aur Stomp sounds like a classic English/Celtic folk song
Gallows Pole is a remake of an old folk song
Tangerine is a country-influenced ballad, as is That's The Way
Friends and Celebration Day are...not flower power
and Hats Off (To Roy Harper) is probably bluesier than Since I've Been Loving You

EDIT: Hats off to my awesome way of spelling bluesier (blusier?)

Illmatic 02-15-2005 05:29 PM
What is everybody's current musical infatuation?
I dusted off Kanye West's The College Dropout and listened to it for the first time since late-August...and I haven't stopped.

It, 1999, Blood on the Tracks, and Jay-Z's The Blueprint have gotten the most playtime for the past few weeks.

EDIT: Also, I'm sick of people saying I am close-minded when I probably have the most eclectic taste of the regs here. :upset:

I'm so glad I don't have cassettes, they have got to be the worst format for music. Other than 8-track.

ledpoisoning27 02-15-2005 05:36 PM
What is everybody's current musical infatuation?
i can't stop listening to my Cream cd, i haven't listened to it in about a year, but then i started listening to it again, and now i can't put it down.

Woodstock 02-15-2005 05:40 PM

I recently got Wheels of Fire from Lunch, and I'm depressed on all that I've missed out on. It's a great album.

i got lots of tapes because i cd player broke late summer and all i had was my tape player, then i brought it to school and some of my friends gave me tapes out of sympathy.

Badmoon 02-15-2005 05:44 PM
why
1. They're a 70's band.
2. They're not a jam band nor an Acid Rock band.
3. They're English
4. Too dark and negative.

you're right, except for the fact they're a 70's band, The Grateful Dead were in the 70's, and Zeppelin started in '68.

Badmoon 02-15-2005 05:49 PM

The Grateful Dead got their main fan base in the 60's. And the Dead are an excpetion to every rule.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-15-2005 05:50 PM

Current musical infatuation: Aoxomoxoa-Grateful Dead and after watching the Beatles anthology DVDs I've started listening to all of their CDs again too.

The only compilation that I've spent money on is Beatles 1, but I've had people burn me other compilations that they bought (Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, maybe some more that I'm forgetting.)

No, the fact that he insulted The Beatles and Cream.

Distant Echoes 02-15-2005 05:53 PM

Im entering this contest now...WMGKs top 500 classic rock songs they do every year; if you guess the 5 songs in the top 5, you win $500. Last year, the top 3 was
1.Bruce - Born to Run
2.Zeppelin - Stairway (won about 5 years in a row before)
3.Aerosmith - Dream On
But im probably gonna go with Stairway, Born to Run, Hotel California, Hey Jude, and something else. Any ideas?

you can enter the contest here - http://emd2.rdg.com/wmgk/ecs2.shtml but it probably wont work if your not subscribed. in that case, ill remove the link.

Woodstock 02-15-2005 05:54 PM

Dream On and Born To Run were in the top three? Good luck guessing this years...
