I've found that death metal doesn't grow on me. It needs to kick me in the chest immediately. I only use this system for death and thrash, which aren't the most complicated forms of music around as far as creating a successful formula.
Same here. If it doesn't become overwhelmingly awesome in the first minute and a half it's never really going to do much for me |
I'm usually indifferent of music at first, then it goes either way the more I hear it.
|
Prog and Avant Garde I give time to grow on me if I don't like it right away. Death and Thrash I expect just to hit me.
Does has anyone of you seen (is this now a correct sentence?) Hate Eternal live?
They are playing together with Cephalic Carnage at 14th May in vienna and i don't know if its worth going to see them.
Cephalic Carnage is good live but Hate Eternal is boring as hell and their music is bad, so I say no go.
So I have a theory that you can determine whether death metal is worth your time after 30 seconds. By that point you can tell whether the intensity is there, if they can write awesome riffs and if the vocals are acceptable. If they can't do it in 30 seconds, they can't do it at all. Anyone else have a similar system?
I usually listen to an entire album once then decide if I either like it, need to listen to it more to "get" it or don't like it/think it's boring. |
I saw Cephalic Carnage (yes zomg they actually came to Perth) and it was an amazing show. Black Dahlia Murder were headlining, Cephalic Carnage completely blew them out of the water though.

Saw Cephalic Carnage supporting Akercocke this time last year. Excellent gig, both bands mighty fine.
