Haha, you're right. I feel so dumb right now. I was listening to Symphony X's V: The New Mythology Suite earlier, which begins with Prelude...

Can I get that Orchestral VST?

Epilogue ftw.
Wtf?! Deliverance is the ****.

Wreath bores me pretty hard though. It makes me realize how essential the mellow parts are to Opeth's sound.
Just like with Ghost of Perition. I still love the song to pieces, just like I do virtually every Opeth song. But on the whole I'd rather listen to Wreath (conflicting opinions, eh? ;)) or A Fair Judgement.

BurningSky 10-15-2006 09:54 PM

A Fair Judgement is the highlight of Deliverance, that song is pure sex...

Stormrider 10-15-2006 10:10 PM

I could never really get into that song...not that I listened to it a whole lot, but still. Meh, I should give it a more real listen I guess.

Det_Nosnip 10-15-2006 10:34 PM
The riff is evil as hell and all, but if you step back and say "wait a minute...this is OPETH?" you realize it's far below the standard Mikeal has for writing something it is just extremely unique and way more interesting melodically and harmonically. It's just very blatant--there's no subtelty to it, and absolutely nothing interesting about it.
Well, that's...the point. I see Master's like Harvest...a demonstration that Opeth don't have to be complex all of the time. I'd call that section "archetypal" more than I would call it "generic," and yes - there is a difference. It's as close to straight up death metal as the band ever gets, really - and it's great.

Thanks in advance. How is it working for you so far?

beso negro 10-15-2006 10:42 PM

The best part of Master's Apprentice is the drumming during 2:54 - 3:15 and 3:35 - 3:53.

I love the triplets he plays with the base drum. Anyone else like that ?

TojesDolan 10-16-2006 09:25 AM
Just while I'm on that, when he says "Never return from this place" in Hope Leaves, the "never" is totally off key and pretty much ruins the song for me.

Dissonance is fun.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-16-2006 03:48 PM

Dissonance =/= pitchiness

You fool! The solos in that song are probably the best ones they've ever done.

Shadows 10-16-2006 06:47 PM

Deliverance has some of Mike and Peter's best solos ever. I love the one towards the end of Wreath, where Mikael nearly cuts loose and starts shredding, and then at the end of Deliverance where he solos over that steady, evil palm muted riff.

Thor 10-16-2006 06:50 PM

Yeah just about every solo on that album was great. I'm also quite a big fan of Peter's Deliverance solo. It's really interesting, and overall pretty awesome.

But A Fair Judgement's solos just have so much emotion and passion behind them. It's mind blowing.

Apocalypticon 10-16-2006 06:53 PM

Deliverance has some very good solos. But for overall quality of solos on an album nothing beats the ones off of Orchid, possibly because there are some many placed in such perfect spots.

pate 10-16-2006 06:53 PM

Peter's Deliverance solo just might be my favorite solo to play.

Eliminator 10-16-2006 06:55 PM

The only solo I can play is the solo to "Johnny B. Goode".

ooooh yyyeaahhhh

Stormrider 10-16-2006 06:57 PM
You fool! The solos in that song are probably the best ones they've ever done.
Well, you see, I don't remember those solo's. Which proves my point in saying that I've barely listened to that song, heh.

Black Rose Immortal second solo is awsome. That build up to it is really nice aswell.

Apocalypticon 10-16-2006 07:00 PM

I can barely remember the BRI solos because that song is the most overrated Opeth song IMO. It is way to long and even though it is chalk full of good riffs after a certain amount of time they all start to blend together. The only song of Morning Rise I really like is Advent.

Stormrider 10-16-2006 07:02 PM

Advent and BRI are my favorites off the album. I remember BRI for the most, because I learned the song, haha.

Another of the older solo's I really like is the In Mist She Was Standing one.

IMSWS has the best Opeth solos, I'm biased though because when it comes ot that song I'm one of the biggest fanboys. When you say you learned BRI did you learn all 20:14 of it?

Stormrider 10-16-2006 07:11 PM

Yeah, I did. I don't remember everything now though, unfortunately, I havn't played it in a while. Though, I still remember a big part. I think...

If I go back to it now, soem of the riffs would need soem work, heh, because like I said, I havn't played it in a long time.

Apocalypticon 10-16-2006 07:18 PM

To me that shows alot of dedication. I would never have the attention span and memory to memorize and play a 20:14 long song. 10 minutes I've done but nothing even close to 20 minutes. Oh well just shows how more focused you are then I am I guess. I learned almost all of IMSWS but never bothered putting it all together. My favourite Opeth song to play is Benighted, short but sweet, although I doubt I can still play it.

Stormrider 10-16-2006 07:33 PM

I had a lot more dedication in learning songs last summer, then I do now, honestly. Now, it can take forever to sit down and learn a song :(...Like I'll print a tab, and soemtimes I won't even learn it. I'll get it done, but I learn a riff every 2-3 days or so. And soemtiems I'm on fire and learna lot in a day. I need to go back like I was on this last summer heh.

Longest song I know and can still play while remembering everything is 16 minutes.

Opeth acoustics are always fun to play.

pate 10-16-2006 07:35 PM

I love learning songs.

My favorite song on Morningrise is The Night and The Silent Water.

I don't care much for that song. And I can see why its is Mikeal and Peter's least favourite Opeth song.

Daven 10-16-2006 07:52 PM

TBYF is where its at.

I <3 that song. I love every song on Morningrise except Black Rose Immortal, which is still a good old Opeth song, just a bit overblown.

Whale and Wasp 10-16-2006 08:54 PM

i cant stand listening to morningrise anymore :( it makes me feel all miserable

Apocalypticon 10-16-2006 09:13 PM

I can stand listening to it, I just don't because it is actually a pretty boring album besides Advent and TBYF.
