Matt? 10-29-2006 09:39 PM

i love sdre so much

seriously 48 may be one of my favorite songs. the whole of diary is just really one of those albums that i always am in the mood for

cbmartinez 10-29-2006 10:07 PM

I never could get into that album.

about the not wanting to talk about saetia thing. it makes total sense to me.

they played shows to only a handful of kids when they were around. now that they are doing new stuff, kids who we never around supporting saetia want to talk about saetia instead of being excited about the stuff they are actually doing now. why should they want to talk about saetia with those kids? i bet if somebody who was at saetia shows wanted to talk about it with them it would be a different story.

the time i saw hot cross a couple years ago is a perfect example. there were like 5 people there to see them. i was one of them, another was a friend of mine that i brought who had never heard of them before, and the other three sat around talking about saetia and pointing at billy saying he was "the guy from saetia". and then when hot cross came on they looked almost uninterested and left immediately after without buying one piece of merch or even saying good show to the guys.

i'm glad i was really into seeing them that show because thats probably the only time i will ever see them play anything off of a new set of lungs and cryonics. when i saw them saturday, they only played one "old" song, and that was from fair trades and farewells. so i'm just glad i get to see hot cross at all. i'm sure when they break up, a ton of kids that never supported them when they were around will obsess over them too.
For Ampere, I have their split with Sinaloa and their full length "All Our Tomorrows..." What am I missing? The demo and their split with Wolves? Someone want to send me them?
whats "first recordings"? i was like, "i don't need change" and he was like, "well this is too much money. here, take this." and then handed me a 7" that says first recordings.

the show was so awesome that i completely forget to look for the das oath split.
Visited SUNY Binghamton and Siena up in Albany. On the way down, we stopped in New Paltz to see SUNY New Paltz and in this little elitist indie record shop that sold mainly jazz and classic rock, I found Amanda Woodward's La Decadence de la Decadence 12". Sweet.
I was in at SUNY Binghamton last weekend.
How'd you like that an New Paltz?
You were so close to me this weekend its scary.
Are you hittin up the Thursday shows this Christmas again?

Most fucking definitely hitting up the xmas shows. I thought Binghamton was pretty cool, even if it was a little big. I didn't tour New Paltz, I just looked around the campus.

that makes sense, but honestly from what i've heard billy really is just a dick. i met with someone today to buy some records from, and he said when he saw them he asked billy about the light the fuse and run split pressing and billy just blew him off and wouldn't talk to him.

record scores:
cryonics- blue bursty color
ethel meserve- pierman 7
native nod- bread 7
V/A eucalyptys 2x7(how the f'uck is this spelled....) feat. indian summer current embassy shroom union and julia. maybe one more that i'm forgetting

amazing. i never expected it to be that awesome.

a lot of times i expect more choatic music like that to somewhat just sound like noise live. but they were really tight. just as good as the recordings.

the most awesome part was the energy of the whole place. it wasn't a big show though, maybe just a little bigger than a normal small show a band like that would play. the place was pretty packed, but it was just a tiny little bar. but the thing that made it different was so many people had come from all over to be there and were really excited about it.

with my experiences down here, a lot of times at small shows everybody just stands around, even the people that are into it. and this is even more true with bands like these. and i don't think it is just down here, because i see the same thing when i watch videos on youtube. but at this, everybody was into it. there was so much movement and energy. there were mic rushes, people were jumping into the crowd and getting held up and carried around, ect. for example, there was like a 5 ft. high divider towards the side of the room that separated off the bar area, and people were jumping off that into the crowd. even the vocalist was jumping into the crowd. everybody would like spaz out for the intense parts. haha. and then rush back in to yell vocals.

when they ended, they put everything down and started unplugging stuff, but none of the crowd wanted to leave or for them to stop playing. people weren't chanting for "one more song" or any of that stupid ****, it was just like everybody stood there facing the stage not accepting that the show was over. so they picked everything back up and played another one, then put it all back down and starting breaking down again. but the crowd did the same thing again. so they picked everything up again and played another one. they finished, same thing happened, and they played a third. hahaha.

it was just so awesome, i already can't wait for next year's fest. even the bands were talking about how great it was. billy was talking about how most fests don't really live up to the expectations, but this one does. and sinaloa even spent a ton of money and vacation time from work flying down just to play the fest.

bottlerocket 10-30-2006 05:32 PM

Man, sounds like a sick show.

ya, i do get that vibe a little, i think he isn't too big on the whole scene. but when i bought some merch from him both times i've seen them he was pretty cool. at fest, he went out to the van to get something for me, and was talking to me conversationally. he asked what my name was, answered my questions about whether they had the old stuff all worked out and down for one guitar, talked about their new stuff, ect. he could have had no conversation if he wanted, because i wasn't really trying for one. it probably depends on the type of kid that hes talking to.

but greg was way cooler. he answered level plane questions for me, and just chatted for quite a while. apparently he's from tampa and his parents still live in the area, so that bodes well for future tour dates.

bottlerocket 10-30-2006 05:37 PM

Jamie's way cooler than Billy, I thought.
Man, sounds like a sick show.
ya, the drummer said the fest shows were up there with only one or two others as the best shows they've had. i don't know if they would all agree, but thats what he said.

i haven't had the chance to see off minor.

Matt? 10-30-2006 05:40 PM

fests are fun besides all the standing and bands you don't like. a lot of people to hang out with/ meet

bottlerocket 10-30-2006 05:48 PM

Like that fest we were supposed to go to, Matt, that got cancelled? LAME.

Matt? 10-30-2006 05:50 PM

that was lame, i was looking foward to seeing hot cross and make me who i think broke up recently. bummer

cbmartinez 10-30-2006 05:57 PM

Make Me was amazing.

Matt? 10-30-2006 05:58 PM

i wanted to see them so bad, it was kind of the main reason i wanted to go to that fest.

true bummer i never got to see em. did you ever?

You should check out Albany at least once.
Its not as big as Binghamton.

Are you hittin up the November shows too?

cbmartinez 10-30-2006 06:12 PM

Nah, I'm seeing Panic! At The Disco with my girlfriend in November and the Converge tour. Hopefully try to catch the Blood Brothers in Philly too.

cbmartinez 10-30-2006 06:12 PM

The reason I checked Binghamton is because it has one of the strongest poli sci/history programs in the NE.

Matt? 10-30-2006 06:38 PM

mire a sac just came on.

this is really pretty cool. i should give these guys a couple listens

cobert 10-30-2006 10:57 PM

Dammit, I always miss SDRE talk in here and I dont get a chance to be all like "WHEEEEEEEEEERE WERE YOOOOOOOOOOOU".

So i tied for 5th out of 100 at the regional part of the National vocabulary Championships (something sponsored by the Game Show Network for money towards college). Then my dad called kind of drunk and made fun of me and said how he just got out of 10 days in jail. Sucks, this was the first time Ive talked to him in a few months.

you should. i was thinking about getting a hotel room to split with some people next year.

team_racket 10-31-2006 11:08 AM

being halloween and all, post your favourite eerie/creepy bands or albums people.

bottlerocket 10-31-2006 03:21 PM

Sunn is sometimes creepy.

I don't really listen to creepy music.

Luxor 10-31-2006 03:27 PM

We listened to Michael Jackson at a halloween party on the weekend. He's pretty damn creepy.
