Should have competed in the drum off this year. :chug:

Moses 03-09-2006 03:41 PM

Thanks. Do you just have to submit a recording of a solo? Why is your avatar so small now?

Spiritofmosa 03-09-2006 09:50 PM
Man, I hope this doesn't happen when Tool's touring this time around.

I bet it will be pretty good actually. They have already said that its going to be more like their older ****. What they need to do if they want to make a good album is go back to getting ****ed up, fighting with each other, and sticking to their own intruments.
I doubt it. That was what they said about the last record.....I remember there being a ton of hype going into it. Bands that try to "return to their old sound" rarely if ever succeed. Music is about evolution and expansion...case in point: Tool.

Moses, you guys have a cool sound.

That's one thing I really like about them, they are absolutely not a static band. Some argue Aenima was better (like me) but others think Lateralus is, either way I love both albums though and the reason I love Tool is large in part to them making, say, a Lateralus even thought it's not my favorite album. Even though I like Aenima more as an album - I think Lateralus has an evolved song structure.

Otherside 03-09-2006 10:05 PM
Because it doesn't actually prove that they are bad.

I never said my standard was better at all. In fact, I wouldn't say there is a "standard" in my opinion. There's certain factors of guitar playing I like to see in my guitar players before I say they are good or bad. James and Kirk have those certain things. I never said they were outstanding, I never said they were necessarily better than anyone else, because those things don't matter. What matters to me is that they can pick up their guitar, write some good lines and play them well.

I'm not going to dismiss them as good players simply because better ones exist.
Well then what matters to me and what matters to you are obviously different, so this argument is pointless. I see them as sub-par and boring, you don't.

The thing is, you were the one who started this string of arguments, with the whole "omg how can u say metallica arnt heavy and good guitar players", which upon giving my reasoning you go "omg but thats just opinion and you cant prove that".

So I don't get what your trying to prove here, that the argument you brought up has no relavence? Ok.
case in point otherside, they both are WAY better then you at guitar, hence you should really talk LESS sh!t
Well I guess if I actually played guitar that would mean something to me, but it really doesn't. You don't have to be superior to be a critic, and you have never had to.

Darkness 03-09-2006 10:17 PM

Guys, please take it to the Metallica thread.

Anyways, I hear Tool's coming out with a new record..

Otherside 03-09-2006 10:20 PM

Yah, I'm done with that argument anyways, nothing good has come out of it, just a bunch of flame wars.

Sorry it had to clutter up this thread.

And no new Tool record, it's just Maynard burping for around 70 minutes. Of course, we'll all buy it.

Darkness 03-09-2006 10:36 PM

I know I will. Wouldn't that be funny if they put 81st Chakra on the album as a bonus track or something? That'd be great... thought it would probably ruin the album.

Moses 03-09-2006 11:36 PM

is your music consider grunge? sounds kinda prog to me.. i dont know.
but your drums are really raw and i love how it sounds.
Thanks. Do you just have to submit a recording of a solo? Why is your avatar so small now?
Yeah, You should definetly do the next one. You have a solid feel.

As for my avatar, Searched for small pics of Opeth and this was the first one.

borisdablade 03-10-2006 02:17 AM

I'm looking forward to the artwork for this album too, I wonder if it will be a little more subdued this time around as from what I have heard in interviews the album is not really concerned with all the weird spirituality of lateralus/aenima.

Also they said that Meshuggah has been a big influence on the production of the album, I wonder if Adam will abandon the drop-d sixer and grab an 8-string ;), well thats far-fetched but really we could so some lower tunings ala prison sex/parabola (remember friends that St Anger doesnt mean all bands that change tunings will go to ****)

kurrpt 03-10-2006 09:46 AM

prison sex was just with a B string, hardly a "low" tuning

as far as "messhugah" influenced, hes probably just talking about the weird time signatures that they are known for
Sat August 12 - Rod Laver Arena - Melbourne - Australia

Hugh Jackman is doing The Boy From Oz at Rod Laver that night.
So unless he's working Stinkfist and Prison Sex into Peter Allens life (LOL) I can't see it working.
:upset:

That certainly puts a dampener on our hopes for an Australian Tour in August.

Well, it's all up now.

Shadius 03-10-2006 07:23 PM

ROFL!

As.

If.

Trintar_VIII 03-10-2006 07:28 PM

It seems they took an early start on April Fools this year.

Adam Jones is GOD 03-10-2006 07:35 PM

Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) sounds like being my new favourite track.

Now watch as this really is the tracklist, and we all have to go and re-consider everything we thought we knew about Tool

Sleeper 03-10-2006 07:36 PM

I've checked around the sites, and this sounds pretty legit.

sgrevs 03-10-2006 07:40 PM

I bet 'Wings for Marie' is an acoustic ballad.

That would work.

Shadius 03-10-2006 07:41 PM

You have to ask yourself how these tracknames are any "worse" than Hooker With a Penis, Prison Sex, or Jerk-Off though, don't you.

Adam Jones is GOD 03-10-2006 07:44 PM

Just goes to show how any sort of trust most of us had is destroyed thanks to the last few months of false rumours.

And on first seeing:

Wings For Marie (Pt 1)
10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)

I immediately thought Pink Floyd

SmashingPumpkin 03-10-2006 07:52 PM

That can't possibly be the real tracklisting.

I mean, Rosetta Stoned? The Pot? Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman)?

I'm not too certain that the tracklist is real or the title.

Eh, the album will be probably be awesome even if these are the real track names.

Trintar_VIII 03-10-2006 08:04 PM

Interesting names, nonetheless. But like SmashingPumpkin said, the album will still be great.

misunderstood 03-10-2006 08:22 PM

:amaze:
I'm speechless.

YouGottaBeCrazy 03-10-2006 09:29 PM

Based on Andy King's review, the first single will in fact be "The Pot"

Honestly, I consider this to be very fake because of the last track. It's latin for 23. If you remember back about a month ago (maybe a little bit more), there was a fake tracklisting released under the album name Aldaraia. One of the tracks on the album was called "23." As evident by one of Blair's updates, he has seen that tracklist as he points out some of the song titles directly and calls them fake. So, this could just be Blair and/or the band messing with us.

Darkness 03-10-2006 09:39 PM

If this is true, I'm not buying the album. But it's probably not.

YouGottaBeCrazy 03-10-2006 09:41 PM

That's not really a good reason to not buy the album. I mean, come on, it's the music that matters, right?

Moses 03-10-2006 09:43 PM
Yeah, You should definetly do the next one. You have a solid feel.

Thanks man. I thought you won the competition last year though, don't you get to keep the big avatar?
is your music consider grunge? sounds kinda prog to me.. i dont know.

Thanks. I mess up once but eh, what can you do? I call our music modern rock...

Darkness 03-10-2006 09:57 PM
That's not really a good reason to not buy the album. I mean, come on, it's the music that matters, right?
Well, I'd probably just not be able to take it as serious as I did for Lateralus...

Trintar_VIII 03-10-2006 10:25 PM

And the one track "Jambi" was that character from PeeWee's Playhouse and it also is a small province in Indonesia.

BlindWriting 03-10-2006 10:29 PM

Things are finally happening.

Even if some of these track names are fake (which they probably are) they're interesting nonetheless and a couple of them are rather eye-catching.

But just a little while longer and we've got a new Tool cd in our grubby little hands.

Here comes the water...

Heh, I know. I recorded that in like five minutes.

deadohiosky9 03-10-2006 11:38 PM

i'm assuming that track listing is legit, i'm doubtful blair or tool would be f.ucking with us this late in the game...but i wouldn't be surprised if they were. those are some awesome song titles though, looks like the new album is possibly another concept album.

looks wired.. could the the single design.

JamJar 03-11-2006 05:26 AM

Could this be the fake album that Blair was hinting at in an earlier post? (The one about album leaks)

Shadius 03-11-2006 07:52 AM

Awesome track names? What the hell? haha.

Those track names are funny, they're fake. I seriously still think Tool are fucking with us.

This is almost definately the fake album titles in my mind, to avoid tracks being leaked.
