Nice. You've put in the lawn now yea?
What's the new webite gonna be on? Anything interesting? This IT class is so slowww. Yeah, they were for AYB, but I didn't end up going :(. That guy my parents don't want me to relate with is in the band... they weren't going to let me exactly go on an overnighter where he was. Apparently it was great though. We're doing a service for Anzac day - that should be alright. You guys been gigging much lately? |
wow. :o when did this fred get stickied?
|
There's no lawn yet. I probably wont even start anything like that until after winter either. Spring is a good time for the lawn. And at that water tank i've got will have to be for the most part full of water, it's close to dry at the moment.
This new website is going to be for a new cafe and function centre thing that's opening up near my place. I think it'll just be a little 5 or 6 page brochure site, so it should be simple. And playing at Anzac day would be a dead set honour. Have a good one with that. |
Good ol' water tanks. You're so Aussie Chris - it rocks :).
Yeah I'll be quite honoured to do it. Hey Kev.... just a couple of days ago. How's it going mate? I just got home from parent teacher interviews. We missed my Italian teacher (Fab) so we sat in the car outside the staffroom while the teachers had dinner... my dad saw us out there and said that we were probably waiting for Fab. So he came out, got in our car as if it was an entirely normal thing to do, and did the interview there instead. Different, lol. |
Your old man is a teacher, right?
Does he teach you for any classes specifically? Because then everynight would be parent teacher night. That'll not be much fun. |
Hehe yeah.
Nah, he doesn't teach me now, but he had me for homegroup, CFA (firefighting class - that was a strange class, but fun), and maths in year 9. Everyone (teachers and other kids alike) was going around feeling sorry for me, but it was okay actually. We got along really well back then.. still kinda do, but you know, typical teenage rebellion and all that jazz :p. |
I'm alright. Drum Major next year. woot. I hope. Most of the seniors are persuading my Band Director to select me since I am the only choice they can think of at the moment. I dunno it would be kinda cool and I would get respect from everyone in the band.
How about yourself? |
Hehe yeah.

so um. have you noticed that the people who post in this thread rarely post in the forum?
This is supposed to be the community, but we have just become JS eliteist bastards that control the chaos that has commenced on our humble forum and corupted it into a hub for the cheap prostitution of bad emo bands and untalented "hardcore". The forum history makeup of the majority of the thread starters are old lurkers and/or posters in the AA, SL, guitar, drums and alt indie forums who have migrated here becasue of one changed rule. I need a support group. |
a hub for the cheap prostitution of bad emo bands and untalented "hardcore".
In the jam session we don't draw such dispersions on differnt genres of music. |
How are we all?
|
From what we hear you say, you're really quite a good teenager.
:) Gav: Great thanks. How about you? Are you going to the Melb. Guitar Festival this weekend at all? Had a rehearsal too. AYB's gonna record (just roughly I think) the New World Symphony sometime soon. The 'bones get to blast the melody through there a bit - it's awesome fun. Kev: That's good as! Something like that can really help you grow as a person - well depending on how much work you get out of that... depends where you are I guess. And yeah, we might rarely post in the forum, but we at least used to if we don't now. I used to help out with theory in this forum before the ask-all-your-questions-in-here theory thread came in. I just don't like that format so much so it was back to answering BQ's in Guitar for me. With seperate threads you can easily pick out ones you feel like answering, and scanning through pages of stuff for a question that's probably already answered isn't my kinda thing. |
Trea: I'm not sure! When/where is it?
You should really really really really really check out my thread. You'll like it! http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?p=12099512#post12099512 |
answering BQ's in Guitar
And it's really appreciated. You to Gav. It's great knowing that we've got some clever folks in there fielding their questions. |
Hahaha.. you don't need to thank me Chris (I won't speak for Trea but I'm sure she's the same), you've thanked me before and even that was unnecessary. I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy doing it.

Hey Trea I'm working on a new song.. I'll tell you about it..
It's like, more poppish than anything else, it sounds a bit like Dream Theater's "Another Day". You know how there are like those pop songs that are like slow ballad-y kind of pieces? It's one of those. It starts off with a nice piano line, then guitar/flute come in with a melody which is actually just like two notes (but it's pretty effective I think). Then there's a slight variation on the original piano part where it has like a build up.. then it goes back to the first bit for what I call a "verse", and it has a nice flute/guitar melody that starts off in unison and then the melodies go their separate ways. Then the flute repeats the melody with a nice trilly variant as the guitar plays something else, then they build up and reach a point of climax where we revisit the piano and bass duet from the start with the flute playing like a fade-in melody, then it stops there (so far, I'm still going). And to be completely honest with you I have no idea why I went into so much detail about it, but I really like it so here's a MIDI of it for you: http://download.yousendit.com/4447AB725BBC495C This song is like aiming to be my "experiment" where I put forth my knowledge of modulation and harmony and stuff. I'm thinking after this I'm going to modulate to the dominant key for like a breakdown and do whatever else with maybe like a four part harmonised section and whatever I do in the middle doesn't matter as long as I have a reprise where I revisit the original theme because I have it in my mind and I think it would be really powerful! What do you think? |

I'm thinking that's going to be a nice chill-out track if/when recorded. It's very nice :).
You're right, the simplicity of those two notes is effective. Sounds like it's going to turn out pretty sweet - as usual. Keep me updated :thumb:. Oh and the details of the guitar thing: http://www.melbourneguitarshow.com.au/home.html I don't think I'm going to be able to get there :(. Apparently there's some guy there that can play 40nps...? |
Yeah it's me.
|
o ok, how stupid of me to not realise.
|
So.. Howcome work always gets 'crazy go nuts' busy at 4:30 in the afternoon the day before a public holiday?
|
so i just got unbanned. how awesome. Hows everyone?
|
I'm mad crazily happy and on a massive high after band camp. Haha, why do these camps always turn out so... wrong?
Fancy giving us apple pie for dessert on the first night... shockin'. |
I taught my music class today :).
And last night my teacher gave me these sheets about fifth grade general knowledge which I recited for her today practically word for word (after she had told me that it would take a week or so to memorise :p). She asked me about instrument construction and the like and then as a "challenge" asked me about the form and structure of a Minuet and Trio movement. It was fun! Last night was MSO, did you go Trea? |
No... I was on band camp.
How was it? What'd they play?
And last night my teacher... etc.
Ey, sounds good mate! :thumb: |
Band camp XD.
They played a few pieces, Mozart.. Schumann.. and one piece from 1997 that had kitchen knives, cowbells, washboards and a piano tuned down a quarterstep. |
Cool. Anyone get hurt? :p
One song the campus bands were playing at camp involved the percussion section using chordless drills, hammers, etc. No way I'm hanging round while they're playing that; too dangerous with those crazy percussion kids lol. Hmm, a band has asked us for a trombonist to help them out with a gig this weekend at the Monash Philharmonic Festival. Tempting. Anyone know what the guitar parts are like for the songs from the Grease production? I got saught out by one of the music teachers to be the guitarist for it when our school puts it on (awesome facilities, so it'd probably have great sound setup). It'd be sweet, but I'm not sure whether to or not, time-wise. |
Haha I think some people didn't like it. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Kudos to the violinists who played "in unison" (that is, they played concert pitch whilst the piano played A=415). That would have been pretty hard. |
I'm not entirely certain but I think a teacher from my uni may have been conducting the Melbourne Symphony thing that happened last week, she was conducting something down in Melbourne anyway.
|
Sweet :).
How's it all going for you? Nice to see you in here again. Bet you loved it, Gav. Wish I'd seen it. |
Matt, the conductor was a male :p. His name was Markus something.
Are you going to any of the MSO's, Trea? |
Wasn't planning to, but that's because I didn't know about any. Details/link?
plzkthxbai :) Good ol mixing. I've really gotta get better at this stuff. How come you're not doing the composition thing Gav? |

Hey, that might be a good excuse to try at school... >_<
I go away for three days and all my strawberry Big M and part of my chocolate Big M are gone (both 2 litre bottles). Funny how "nobody drunk them", heh. What's happening all? |
Just uni work.
I'm learning the melody line to Dolphin Dance then I have to work on my essay. |

G'day
What's your experience like, what genres are you into, are you in any bands/got any recordings etc? Woah, I'm really posting wayyy too much in this thread. |
So we were sitting at the dinner table and I hit my plate with my spoon and I've gone "hey.. that was a C#" and my brother was like "as if. What's this then?" and hit his plate and I was like "G#" and then he hit his glass and I was like "that's a C# too.. just an octave higher" and I went over to the piano and I was right.
...Not quite sure why I shared that with you guys... |
